BEFORE INDEPENDENCE GOLD COASTERS SAW GOVERNMENT PROPERTY AS BELONGING TO THE COLONIAL GOV'T TO WHICH ANY INDEGENE COULD JUST HELP HIMSELF AND BE SHIELDED. AFTER INDEPENDENCE THE GHANAIAN GOV'T DID VERY LITTLE TO CHANGE THE MIND SET OF GHANAIANS. THE TREND HAS BEEN SO ACCELERATED IN RECENT TIMES THAT IT HAS BEEN CHRISTENED "YE BE DII BI KEKE", MEANING "WE ARE ONLY HERE TO AMASSWEALTH" AT THE EXPENSE OF THE STATE, FORGETTING THAT THE PEOPLE CONSTITUTE THE STATE OF GHANA.
UNLESS THE ELECTORATE AND THE ENTIRE POPULATION RISE AGAINST THIS CANKER NOW, GHANA WILL SURELY BECOME A FAILED STATE. THANKS

You hit it right on the head,Mmoborowah!!!.Ghanaians have NOT changed their perception of government since the transfer of running our government business was made way before our independence. We've always looked upon our government as alien to us,hence anything initiated thereof could be exploited without the slightest guilt. Those who run our national affairs exploit this heinous perception to their advantage because they could always point their left hand to our colonial masters.Unless we change this mind set, there is no hope in addressing the wanton disregard of the rule of law.The people feel they have no stake in the government hence the looting goes on unabated. As soon as there is the collective recognition of our stake in our government and the realization that we the people dictate the rules of the game, what appears to be insurmountable today in Ghana would be resolved easily.

Massa ;the picture painted in this picture illustrates our basic problem in this country ; the fact is that those in the know or the big men are aware of all these discrepancies and are feeding fat on these hidden assets ; the points raised in the articles says a lot about these so called business men both present and the past ; they are given huge sums of money from the Cons. accounts and the money simply dissappears and then later they call themselves great business men; Kwuhu Motors ; BA Mensah ; David Lamptey ; Ibrahim Mahama and a lot of business men today are feeding fast on these umwanted funds ; Newmont Gold Ltd- the Ashantihene and others are involved in the legitimate mining activities of this company but they have kept quiet ; the next thing you hear is that Ghana cannot afford to import crude oil because they have no money ; and Ghanaians by their ignorance buy this rubbish; this article highlights the fact that Ghana has got enough intangible assets ; but are sinple cash strap ; therefore who is suppose to unravel this untenable situation ; because these issuing of bonds and the unwarranted borrowing is not necessary by the Finance Minister ; we are simply not managing our finances properly that is the PROBLEM.

This is a classic case of Clerical Errors. The effect of which is gargartic. This has been going on since independence. You are right, all the politicians that have been in power knows about them and are feeding fat on them. They make sure most important DOCUMENTATIONS never happens so they can manipulate figures to suite them. This is exactly what went into the elections, and now that they are caught, they are pleading clerical errors. Not until we as a country can insist on doing things right at the right time, at the time of occurrence, and measures are put in place such that it cannot be altered, and when altered, the person who did it and at what time, could be captured without being explicit at the time, nothing will ever change. The election petition case must be a test case, and for the SC Judges to put a stamp on fighting corruption in the country. If they do not rule that committing clerical errors in important decisions amounts to crime then we are doomed as a country. God save us.!!!

I thought nobody would have the courage to say it but you did Sydney. The thought has lingered in MY mind for the longest of time. The black man has demonstrated beyond every reasonable doubt that we are incapable of running our national affairs. After over half a century of self-rule,our expertise has been ripping each other of and blaming colonialism,neo-colonialism and imperialism. After all, its convenient and political expedient to blame somebody else than look into the mirror at the REAL CULPRITS.I have said this and would say it again until my last breath,WE GHANAIANS ARE OUR OWN WORSE ENEMIES,PERIOD!!!
Reading through the article by an unnamed author, rips my heart. How can our own fellow citizens stand up to the plate to conduct the business of the nation and end up doing so much harm to the rest of us,huh? How can these so called leaders sleep at night when their ulterior motive in being in public life is to design schemes by which they could enrich themselves at the prohibitive expense of the very fellow citizens they profess to act on their behalf? And the most painful question glaring at all of us is WHY WE THE PEOPLE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN TO US.When would we spontaneously wake up and demand, rightfully too, that those who work on our behalf can no longer get away with these exploitation, mismanagement, and outright daylight robberies.
Ghnaians should realize that their destinies are in their own hands and it'll take a vigilant collective effort to arrest the unacceptable gull that has been become the status quo operative in our nation's business.Assigning this shared responsibility to a higher authority has been empirically demonstrated to be ineffective. We,the people, need to wake up and demand immediate changes, when we still have the opportunity, before our nation is completely taken over by some tyrant,AGAIN!!!

Nkrumah paved the way for all these recklessness. When he was the president, he has no vice and what was his motive then? We are our worse enemies and till we wake up and demand full accountability, such recklessness will never stop.
Imagine Japan holding a conference on Africa and donating $32 billion for developmental purposes? When our leaders go to such conference, how do they feel? If these nations are as reckless and irresponsibility like us, where will they get the money for us to fool around with? At these conferences that I see that our leaders are not educated at all. The mere fact that one can communicate fluently with the "Queens language" does not make that person a commonsensical entity.
Our leaders are idiot. We should demand the return of the "pink skin man" who despite everything, will reason that as humans, we need certain things that will make our lives livable.
Look at Accra-Kumasi road; haven't we secured loans for its construction and why is that road still not constructed? I hate to hear people saying that we can manage our own affairs. Those saying that the ones who will not hesitate to dig their hands deep into the treasure and cause havoc to Mother Ghana.

Thank u for this your wonderful piece Usman .Somewhere within this year l also made this same observation. You see a country does not develop solely on academic qualification.America of all nations was not developed through the reliance on only academic qualification, but on ideas. It is ideas that made America. It is unfortunate that in our part of the world we place so much premium on university degree and turn to glorify people with high degres, without realising that having a degree is one thing and having a wisdom is another. How many times havent we see university graduates messing up? and in the end millions if not billions of Ghana cedis go down the drains. Can't we learn from our mistakes? After 56years of political independence,we still don't know the economic direction we are moving as a nation. We have use the tax payers money to promulgate beautiful laws,we have use tax payers money to create institutions for the implementation and monitoring of these laws, yet greed, incompetency and arogance has led people to disobey these laws with impunity and this has brought us down to our needs as a nation. When shall we learn? We have all lost our patriotic zeal and not until we realise this, we would continue to pour the tax payers money down the drain.

Recklessness, irresponsibility, dishonesty, stupidity and above all, foolishness has eaten into every fabric of our society.
Are we serious of managing our own affairs as proclaimed by our first president? No and never. Ghanaians and Africans in general brag of being well educated. Some go to an extra length of labeling other as "uneducated" with the view that they are above all and sundry. The question that comes into mind is, how many illiterates are at the helm of affairs in Ghana and why is such recklessness so pervasive? Our so-called educated elites are nothing more than crass idiots. The qualification they acquired in school which is best described as "PHD" is rather retarding our progress. Ghanaian leaders should bow their heads in shame and accept the fact that they are sub-humans who should not be where they are.
If such "I-do-not-care" attitude is causing our downfall, why is the president talking about widening the tax net? Why can't he put structures in place to stop such "leakages" instead of trying to suck more blood from frail looking Ghanaians?
Are we prepared to govern ourselves and in what ways?
