you are a fool if u say that gh doctors and nurses ask for money we are not working for. The story even made mention of a certain nurse without identity. How can she justify that the comment came from a nurse not a cleaner or a student who is on rotation. A weak and asphyxated baby will always be taken to NICU/ MBU for proper care. I share with her the pain but let us not judge our health professionals as the worse in the world for we are among the best and stand shoulder to shoulder with doctors in the developed world. All that we need is the equipping of our facility with the modern tools and expandin and training specialist in all fields in medicine. The question we shd ask is whether our govts had done even half of all these. Go to KATH/ K'Bu and see the deplorable state doctors and nurses work. Let us dream big and stop insulting our professionals

This kind of stupid nonsense can only come from a Ghanaian doctor. Are you trying to say that in Ghanaian hospitals it is cleaners and students who run the show? Where were the so-called doctors when the cleaners and students were offering medical advice to the poor distressed lady?
Our medical priority is not to train more specialists who we cannot pay because as soon as we use our hard-earned money to train them, they begin to bluff and turn their backs on us and demand salaries which are paid to doctors in nations where their minimum salaries are equal to our middle-management salaries. What we need are general medical practitioners who are prepared to work and behave like doctors and who are therefore prepared to go to every nook and cranny of the country to give medical services to Ghanaians who have never ever been treated by a qualified doctor before.
Why do you Ghanaian doctors think that you are a special breed who must be served and pampered like children? Upon all the huge salaries, you are now talking about deplorable conditions? Well my friend, you just go to the public and Civil service and many private companies where you will come face to face with what are really deplorable and pathetic conditions of service and salary.
If you are among the best in the world, go to the rural areas and other deprived areas of Ghana and perform for all of us to see your worth. Being the best is not by word of mouth, it is by practicing and showing your competence where it is most needed.
A genuine and true medical doctor does not need to wait for the equipping of facilities before he or she can perform. A qualified and genuine medical doctor can or should be able to perform under all and any adverse conditions. Check yourself out.
Let us dream big? Forget it! We want simple common medical treatment and we cant get – and you are talking about dreaming big? You damned insensitive fool.
So now you see, God is not an Alata man. You have now been exposed and we now see who are using Ghanaians as guinea pigs.

In advance countries this would be a good case of medical negligence where the courts would establish if the doctors/nurses were negligent. To establish this Afia should prove three basic conditions:
1, Did the doctors owe Afia a duty of care? 2, Were the doctors in breach of that duty? and 3, In that breach did Afia suffer loss or suffering?
In this particular case Afia is within the scope of duty of care and some experts call this 'duty in fact' particularly cases involving doctors, nurses and dentists providing services to people.
I am of the opinion or concerned about the primary liability of this particular nurse for his/her own tort in failing to tell Afia that the baby was not dead and later on developing what is referred to as iatrogenic (doctor inflicted) condition(if this can be proved). The Ministry of Health could be vicariously liable for the torts of the professionals in this case if Afia wish to.
However, my personal experience in Ghana is that when it comes to professional negligence Afia will find it extremely difficult getting another Doctor or Nurse to testify against their colleagues in court. Ivan Illich was right when he said that all professinals conspire against the laity, that is why this will be a herculean task for someone like Afia.

I support AFIA 100%.She was lied to that her baby was dead.Secondly, accused of abandoning the child, without her knowledge, the child was alive. How could she abandon a child who has been declared dead already?
After she follow up with the hospital, she recognized the child was having one paralysed leg.
THE QUESTION IS,HOW WOULD SHE KNOW IF HER CHILD HAS EVEN BEEN CHANGED FOR THE ONE WITH PARALIZED LEG,IF THEY LIED TO HER FROM THE BEGINNING,THAT HE WAS DEAD?
There are a whole lots of myth surrounding this case.
AFIA HAS TO GO TO THE COURT TO STRAIGHTEN AND CLARIFY THINGS UP,BECAUSE THE HOSPITAL MADE AN IRRESPONSIBLE MISTAKE.

I think the lady should ask some tangible questions as to, why the baby was pronounced dead in the first place without showing the corpse to the mum and be called after one month later only to be told that she had abandoned her baby. Also how did the baby survived till one month? This could easily mean that the baby was sold but because he/she has issues with paralysis, they brought it back and reason why the real mum was called for it? Why are the doctors threatening to peruse the woman or any media who makes article about this?
The lady should rest on this, I strongly believe that this baby was old out, so she should pursue to court and shouldnt be afraid of the doctors.
i wish u all the best

There are several questions that need to be answered rather than the red herring arguments regarding the sanity of the mother. Regardless of her mental situation, was the mother told by a nurse that baby was stillborn and prevented from seeing the baby? Did she see the baby herself? What is the procedure for the disposal of stillborns? How was she discharged with only one baby? How has this baby been taken care of since the mother left the hospital. Where are the daily records of baby's presence at hospital? etc etc.

Afia must go to court. It is about time health workers in the country faced up to their responsibilities. Doctors in Ghana think they are God and above every profession in the country. They have been making all sorts of mistakes and killing innocent people but because Ghanaians are peace loving people and do not want litigation, when such incidents happen the doctors and nurses involved are left to go free. It is high time they are made to pay heavy compensations to the victims to deter them from these wrongs. Doctors and nurses are very arrogant and rude to patients. They should know that all professions are equal and all need to play their part to move the nation forward.
