Since when did the Ghana Education Service assume responsibility for investigating criminal acts in Ghana? The teacher who brutalised the child should have been arrested for his barbaric act. The matter should be handled by the police and the teacher prosecuted. He is not fit to be a teacher. Discipline is not the same as abuse. What he did to the child was abuse, inhumane and degrading punishment. The parents should sue the school and the teacher.

We have to be circumspect in these issues. It is true what the bible says but that does not make a crime right does it. Teachers are meant to punish children to correct them and not to hospitalize them. Once the teachers steps beyond the boundaries of correction it behoves on the police plus GES to put things right. Its high time teachers behaved responsibly towards our children. We discipline our children and take them to school for teachers to add their bit and not send them to hospitals.

".... irrespective of what the child has done". Yes children have rights, but what about responsibilities? Wait until your child takes a gun and shoot you dead before you come up with that phrase. Nobody would want to condone what the teachers may have done, but if the GES is handling the case, I suppose it is the right thing to do. If the child had not sneaked out of school, the teachers would not have punished him/her. Advise children to abide by regulations and nobody would be hurt!

why should GES handle this inhuman act by the foolish teachers? GES is not competent enough to handle this issue as it involves criminality. This is not the case of "spare the rod in the bible" as the punishment mated out to this young girl has resulted she been hospitalized.if that young girl is even an arm robber would these insensitive teachers have beating her like that. This can never happen in UK here.Let's protect our children through "guidance and counselling" rather than this abusive approach.

I remember a teacher at the Keta Roman Catholic Boys' Middle School in the 1960's. His nickname was BKK. (Ben K Kudiabor). He was a brutal child abuser. He abused all his classes and considered it a point of honor to cane students. This beast traumatised students who even today hate his guts even though he is dead. This stone age behavior must stop. Students can be suspended (internally or externally), or expelled if the gravity of the offense is as such. But to cane students because they got wrong answers in a mental test or poor grades is a mark of animalism. We need to get out of the stone age and get into the space and info age.
