Whilst half of the country on strike. Patients dying needlessly because of strikes. MPs collecting their 10000GHC a month for no work. Being led by a clueless so called government (only thing they are capable of doing is endless appointment of ministers), dishonest politicians with dubious qualifications etc etc. The judiciary is running a circus which will not prove anything. What is going to happen is that a bunch of corrupted fools will be replaced by another bunch of idiots. And if you think everything will be OK after that then you are living in cloud coo coo land. NOTHING will change. There is a vacuum in Ghana politics and smaller opposition parties are too weak to take advantage of the vacuum. It is about time we exercise people power. What is needed is something like the Arab Spring, I call this AFRICA AWAKENING, very appropriate to start in Ghana as we are the first country to get our independence. So it is apt for us to lead the way. We should occupy houses of parliament or Nkrumah Circle until this nonsense is stopped and all these people are rounded up and locked up. Unless those same laws preventing the Police and other service personnel are extended and enforced, Groups of people will continue to take all citizens for a ride.
Having said this I like to join others to say that it all began with the Parliamentarians and Cabinet Ministers carving out hefty sums as salaries for themselves. What is good for goose should equally be good for the gander and if there is no money We should ALL tighten the belt.

I urge Mahama to as a matter of urgency slash the pays of his appointees and MPs. Then others will understand. That fat ESB paid to MPs after every 4 years is nonsensical and must stop. So Ayariga for instance gets ESB for every 4 years for the number of years he has been MP? Car loan for every 4 years? That is unacceptable to other workers who do more. Why should MPs receive rent allowance and not loans for rent. We all want strikes to end but Mahama should act responsibly and truthfully to workers or he shall continue to face strikes. The MPs are not special to be treated like Ghana is awash with money.

Government should dismiss them, advertise for doctors and most of them will run back.
Doctors should know that nobody, including them is indispensable. Ghana will go on with or without them.

Section 168 (4) Without prejudice to subsection (2)a worker who takes part in an illegal strike may have his or her services terminated or may forfeit his or her remuneration (salary and other conditions of service) in respect of the period during which he or she is engaged in the illegal strike.
(5) Without prejudice to subsection (2), an employer who resorts to illegal lockout is liable to pay the unpaid remuneration of workers.
That is what the Labour Act 2003, Act 651 says, so when a doctor and in that case an intellectual is wanting to eat his bread and have it then, what sort of person are they. Are doctors in state employment telling the world that they are law abiding or rouges.

We are sick and tired of the political gymnastics of the most sensitive sector of the Nation.
All these medical professionals have studied abroad and know that any industrial action which undermines the smooth administration of the government is sponsored by the Unions, with respect to remunerations.
Doctors must know that they don't live on another planet and that, any such action has a reverberating effect on their professors who taught them at school, their former lovers, their distant relatives and other friends they have forgotten about.
We demand that the task payers must not be given such a raw deal! It is insulting, callous and condescending to the plight of the suffering patients!!!!

So for the ignorant doctors' leaders to say it is "very fair" for them to take their salaries despite the strike because "they have worked for it", what "WORK" have they done during the strike period apart from going to do locums in private clinics and making 'extra' money (and probably paid cash for which they will not declare for tax purposes?

I find it hypocritical, wrong and frankly against the labour laws for anyone who is striking to expect to be paid. I agree with those who are calling for the salaries to be recalled. As a striking doctor, I would as a matter of principle REFUSE to take my salary as a mark of my principle. All trade Unions know this, and when ever there are strikes, the reason people are asked to sign up to it is so employers would know who not to pay over the period.

A great shame that we have doctors who won't work, yet receive their pay and now want to justify it. So, what is their basis for condemning parliamentarians? It is called hypocrisy and I am ashamed that people of this noble profession (to which I belong) would behave like this!!!

She made it clear that if the Union can take the labour to strke then the union must be prepare to pay their wages for the time the labour embarked on strike.
