It's unfortunate that the EU has taken a decision that would affect the pockets of my brother West African cocoa farmers. The health risk is potentially more dangerous though and I'm glad the EU is taking the appropriate and effective steps to remove the threat to life. For the cocoa farmers and their nations incomes this would be a difficult and painful transition but the right thing must be done especially in the preventive health care delivery system. The governments and agencies of the affected farmers must take immediate steps to make the transition for there is no way they can circumvent this tough but right decision by the EU. I'm an African and I do empathize with my brothers whose incomes and livelihood will be affected by this seemingly harsh decision but I do eat chocolate and drink hot chocolate a lot and I'm concerned about the potential danger to my health. All said and done the health of millions of people is more important than the incomes of a relatively small number of cocoa farmers.Health always comes first.

West African producing countries, instead of spending heavy amount of money to fight cadmium in cocoa, should help cocoa farmers to diversify.

Cocoa is money and we in Ghana must demonstrate seriousness in the market place.

The EU is just trying to these regulations to control the world. How many people have died from this so-called cadmium? They have been using the global warming nonsense that has not worked, now it cadmium. Our farmers are not in trouble, they are addicted to chocolates and they pay huge premiums for their silly regulations.

we Africans need to sit up and develop sustainable management programs for our countries. we need to promote local transformation of cocoa so as to increase supply in our markets and encourage the African population to consume more of our local products.this will help us reduce our dependence on the international market for our cocoa produce. Also, the African union should develop legislation s on the quality of chemicals imported for use in agriculture.
