Is IMANI saying that Capt Budu Koomson was an officer in the last Presidential Corps? If my memory serves me right the last Presidential Guard was overthrown in 1966, 47 years ago. How old was he then? If even he was 23 years he will be 70 years by now. Is he of that age? If he is then he has learnt no wisdom. If even he was a 2/Lt he could not have been a leading officer in that Guards Regiment as they try to portray him in paragraph 5. To have come out to want to justify his reckless comment on a possible coup exposes this group as nothing but nation wreckers to justify whatever group funding they get from which source. Shame on you.

One thing I would urge you to believe is that it does not take just anybody to get to the 'captain' in the Ghana army.

We admire Jerry Rawlings, and he was 'Flt.Lt' which is not easy to achieve either.

Incidentally, I got to know Capt. Koomson very well during his exile here in Germany. And, believe it or not, the Guy is just too intelligent to talk about Coup plans, if he were involved in something of the sort. He is definitely one of the last persons who would want to see a military coup happening in Ghana again. We civilians do not get to know all the ugly details when such a thing happens.

What IMANI says about Ben's "Presidential Corps..." thing, is just kind of circumventing to avoid mentioning why he had to flee. But you may replace the word "President" in that context.

But if we give the benefit of doubt to the accused, and read this IMANI write up with open mind, we can all hope the security apparatus, and especially, government, takes such words from the Captain as a good advice and something to guard about.

One problem with Ghanaians is that the very moment they slip into the position they have been ushered to occupy, their heads swell beyond reasoning, and they acclaim to themselves the holder of all wisdom.
This is not limited to only one institution, but all. You can easily deduce why we cannot supply the public with adequate water, electricity, road safety etc. It is not that we do not have people charged with execution of those duties. You can also look at FWSC, NLC and the workers.
But, back to National Security. How long ago is it, that a foreigner comes and openly on stage smoke illegal drugs in the presence of our "security", without anyone of them raising a finger. But a day after this man leaves the shores of Ghana, what did we not hear from our "security" demanding law enforcement? This was, after the media started publishing, and informing the general public.
Do you think Captain Koomson would have been "INVITED" if he had not spoken to the whole listeners of that Radio programme?
If you think you can advice anyone in Office, then, ask the BNI to come public with what they asked the Captain at that invitation. I suppose those question do not pose any threat for the State.

I cannot reconcile the first part of your statement with the last part. We have challenge if we do not know how to manage them. Like, at a time when Ghana is facing water and energy crisis, Mahama is thinking of sending 200 pastors to go to Israel to pray for the nation using the country's resources. Can't we use that money to address these challenges? Mahama's handling of the water and energy crisis and his decision to send pastors to Israel has actually created a challenge for Ghana. The challenge for Ghana is that of a crisis of lack of creative, sensitive and capable political leadership. So if you are arguing that there is nothing wrong if we face challenges, then this is a gargantuan indication that you need skills in creative thinking yourself. I do not whether you were taught critical thinking at school.

Many people in Germany will tell you that Koomsom was a refugee in Germany depending on the German state for existence. IT was his friend Prince Amoabeng of UT who rescued him from his misery. It was Prince Amoabeng who brought him back from Germany and as a good friend gave him a job at UT. Koomson was recently sent on posting to South Africa where he messed up so had to be brought. This Koomson guy, an ordinary soldier, not with any academic qualification apart from O or A`Level is now talking as if he has authority on the economic affairs in Ghana.Koomson talking of an impending Coup, what a joke. Coward Koomson, why did you run away to Germany when things were hot in the Army.

'Coups in Ghana have not all been of the same flavour. One can discern three broad types: military takeovers with the complicity of the high command (eg. General Akufo's removal of General Acheampong, and the JWK Halley - Kotoka led overthrow of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah), mutiny-triggered coups by disaffected other-ranks and junior officers (eg. the Rawlings coups), and regime displacement by a sub-command with a coherent, intact, internal structure (the Akyeampong coup.' Sorry, the 1966 coup did no thave the complicity of the High Command. It was externally financed by the CIA, British and West German intelligence services. IMANI us which members of the Military High Command were involved? Major General Bawah was opposed to the coup, hence shot dead by the plotters; Major General Afari was outside the country; only Kotoka shamelessly was involved from day one with one Captain Kwarshie and a Brigadier.
It is difficult to justify this outright lies by this so called Think Tank. My good friend Dr. Aning is right.
We must opposed all coups. All coups are bad. Just ask the Nkrumah, Busia, Akufo, Felli and Liman families. Can we image where Ghana would be today if all the renewable energy projects in the 7 year development project were in operation today?
If the NDC or the NPP chaps are not doing their best in governance, let those who want better governance do the decent thing: Form parties and campaign for power. Ballots, Not Coups!

IMANI do talk to the real 1981 coup makers such as the legendary Sgt Daniel Alolga Akata-Poree, there was no dissatifaction among junior officers and men. Hence the coup almost failed. It was a 'civilian' coup supported by a external force led by Rawlings.
National security is RIGHT in interviewing Captain Koomson, who by the way is not a Captain as he was discharged from the Army. By his actions, he is preparing the ground for a coup. No to all coups!

If the Captain had wished to caution the Govt on the causes of past coups in Ghana, he could do it confidentially without deliberately bating the military, as if no one else can read his true motives. It is funny how the "champions" of rule of law and democracy are always found wanting when their darling party is on the sidelines and they are desperately in search of a savior, a coup d'etat is welcome. I've followed comments made by this group over the years and by and large they seem to be biased against the NDC and not appear to neutral. To support a guy who made public comments to warn of an imminent coup d'etat is unfortunate. If IMANI wants to be taken seriously they should preach for peace and condemn any such public utterances. Let's not forget that the NEXT COUP MAY LEAD TO A CIVIL WAR. Ghana has been lucky in the past, but may not be lucky in future.
