The NDC would have to explain to Ghanaians how a dead man came to author and sign a letter!
The opening paragraph states, “I came to serve; I have finished my time here on earth and have moved on to everlasting rest and celestial duties with my heavenly father.”
The immediate question is; how did the dead man come to sign his own personal tribute, since he is already in heaven?
The letter then goes on melodramatically, “As you leaf through these pages of my life’s story, I pray to God that it touches your heart in many positive ways. Weep not, I am not dead. I am alive and awake in the Lord. Ghana will not die; Ghana will live to declare the works of the Lord. As I rest in perfect peace in the celestial realms with my maker, I pledge to always uphold and defend the good name of Ghana. Remember the Lord in all your ways and He will protect you. Stay well my brothers and sisters, I will always be with you. Signed (with actual signature) John Evans Atta Mills...

It happened under NDC, NPP, etc every single year, we went there and begged for money ..during the reigns of the 2 partys we have been begging the international donors. this is not an NDC problem alone, its an NPP problem too. No one has had the leadership to not ask for funds and attack the issue right away. same with our water problems and electricity. Both partys have had their chances and they have all not solved our basic issues. so why do we always wanna single one party out? because NPP did not win and u feel the need to blame everything on the rulling party?

NADMO is an emergency/relief agency and is not responsible for strategic planning and therefore should not take the blame for the reluctance of the international donors continuing to support flood victims year in and year out. Sadly, it is our own inability to think imaginatively, plan ahead and take proper and sensible steps to minimise all manner of risks such as crop failure, disease epidemics and of course flooding that has led to this.
With the floods, as night follows day, the rains come every year and will continue to do so, and yet each year we act as though the rains had not been expected. Clearly more and bigger drains need to be built and the existing ones including small gutters need to be cleared of the filth and rubbish. But there are other ways that could be employed to ease the flooding problem. For a tropical town, Accra is incredibly without an abundance of plants, trees, and grassed areas. There are vrtually no green spaces. Trees which were planted years ago usually lining the older Accra roads (eg the road leading from Independence Sq to the central Accra district) and many others, have been felled and the old grass verges have been neglected and have turned to dust patches. The ground is often baked dry and impervious to water. Most houses now sit in completely paved compounds, so within a typical house when it rains, water cannot seep into the ground as it should so as to take some of the strain off our inadequate drains, but instead, flows out adding to water from elsewhere looking for "somewhere to go". Ground with plant cover ie trees, shrubs and grass clearly can help absorb substantial amounts of rain water and households and the municipal authorities should look at what they can do by way of planting more trees etc. to help in the effort to minimise the flooding risk. A good example is Singapore and their continuing effort in managing the effect of the monsoon rains and greening their lovely city.
In my view, initiatives such as these will demonstrate to aid donors that we are at least exploring ways to manage/minimise the effect of natural occurrences rather than always, always waiting for handouts. Besides, more trees etc. will make Accra in particular a more pleasant place to be - more shaded areas and slightly more cooler too, as more plants will have an effect on the micro climate.
A bit of a sideways look at this perennial problem. So over to you Mayor, and the good people of Accra.
