Smart move by Mrs. Attivor to insist on Ghana's desire to use the Standard Guage rail system which is roughly about 4' - 8.5" between wheel rails compared to the 3' - 6" that Ghana currently has on her existing track rail.
The standard gage is a sensible option as a more diverse source and larger pool of railway equipment and track systems are readily available from well established manufacturers from the west.
The current gage that Ghana uses limits Ghana in procuring equipment and systems as the buyers market for these rail gages are mostly limited to Sub-Sahara Afican and South East Asian countries where demand is very limited. Incentives for manufacturing companies to develop new technologies and equipment are therefore non-existent and most equipment have to be custom ordered and made resulting in higher costs. This is one of the reasons that the Ghana rails collapsed. Replacement equipment were either non-existent or very expensive.
The Americans' insistence on using the current gage is that there will be lesser ballast trackwork (width-wise) done compared to the standard guage. The extra cost in rail ballast work for the standard gage is insignificant compared to the reduction in costs for procured rail cars, controls, switchess and even technical support as the supplying market is much bigger and competition do exist.
I pray that Mrs Attivor, the Ministry of Transportation thru the support of Prez Mahama will for once look at the bigger picture for a such a capital-intensive venture. Thanks Mrs. Attivor.

All of you dont seem to be able to read the signs of the times or connect the dotted line. Now that we have barely survived the chinese rape pepeni has sold the country through the racist American ambassador to GE to exploit us and put us back not decades like they did to nkrumah but centuries never to recover again. we are now slaves and beggars in our own country. the wealth of the nation especially that of the Akans will now be siphoned out by placing this impossible burden and other yokes on our backs just so 5000mw can be paid. they are not offering us sustainable growth like they did for their former enemies the germans and japanese but we who gave our best in Burma will now be humiliated and bossed around , exploited and broken till we are just thank God for air we may have to breath. our hearts will now be broken as we stand no chance against this evil . they tried to take our oil but mills and the ahvois stopped this now they take everything under the guise of bringing investors , where is our Hugo Chavez or Che Guevara now ? they were given the akosombo and alumina business so we could pay for our sustainable growth through the sale of 99.99% pure aluminum but in their hatred based on racism they gave us what was not sustainable and are the root cause of all our problems today . mills chose the chinese who gave us their scum and criminals but pepeni has linked up with the most toxic of multinationals , God is on our side and we will show them soon

To open the doors to USA business could be like the introduction of democracy to Ghana; a Big Bang; a first expansion of a new-way, a new beginning. Since the colonial period dominated by the import needs of Britain; British, then European business was a primary source in building business in Ghana, but now the USA is ready to join the building of the economy of Ghana. This readiness is good because it offers money, it offers a new business style and it offers the return of people who want to become Ghanaian-Americans. We need to explore and develop these potentials.

we know all this but these lot who just came are criminals 'par excellence', they have stolen projects that people have worked on with other Americans and europeans amongst others for over 15 years , negotiating detail after detail , getting financiers and partners together , struggling with the bureaucracy only to have GE circumvent and claim selfishly for themselves at the end , this matter will end up in court with an injunction and with their reputation in shambles globally. a sad affair when the infrastructural deficit is almost a trillion dollars and there is space for ethical genuine credible honest non corrupt companies and businesses . theft is never a good short cut for doing business
