OH! STUDENTS OF GHANA. ARE NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL NOT DEPLOYED TO TEACH AND DO OTHER JOBS THAT PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY BEEN EMPLOYED TO DO, INCLUDING TEACHING? DIRECTING TRAFFIC IS ALSO WHAT A GROUP OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EMPLOYED TO DO FOR WHICH THEY ARE PAID JUST AS TEACHING. DO THESE GRADUATES THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN THOSE WHO DIRECT TRAFFIC? THEY SHOULD NOT FORGRT THAT MOST OF THE POLICE CONSTABLES THEY SEE DIORECTING TRAFFIC ARE ALSO GRADUATES, SOME EVEN WITH FIRST CLASS HONOURS. THEY MUST THEREFORE NOT BELITTLE THE JOB THAT THE AUTHORITIES ARE CONTEMPLATING OF ASSIGNING THEM. AFTERALL THEY WOULD LIKE TO BE POLICE OFFICER ON COMPLETION OF NATIONAL SERVICE SO WHY NOT START NOW AND GET ACQUAINTED WITH SOME PRACTICAL WORK?

Great, but PUSAG the reason behind your plea does not hold. ... PUSAG ..."argued that the move would amount to duplication, since the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) division of the Ghana Police Service were undertaking that same exercise"..Oh ho, is that the reason?
My questions are there no trained, experienced and professional teachers at post already in all our schools before national services teachers take appointment to teach in the same schools?
You could give a better reason... Could it be that PUSAG considers "traffic directing" as demeaning????
Just call a spade, a spade please...

How could any thoughtfully meaningful government body in Ghana unbelievably plan to waste graduates on the streets to direct just traffic when the children's class rooms in the villages are empty without teachers? Why don't you make the village postings more attractive to encourage the young energetic graduates, than to waste them on our filthy and polluted lawless streets to risk their lives?
The National Service Secretariat has rather exposed their professional incompetency and disgusting deficiency for no proper planning to effectively use the graduates for prioritized national needs and maximizing their academic values.
We can send the graduates on a well planed rural education program to curtail our illiteracy, environmental education programs for sanitation cleanliness, help to teach at organized youth illiteracy training camps, support in technical agricultural education programs or helping to evaluate our tourist potentialities or support drivers and road users education programs than to risking them on our lawless and highly toxic polluted roads.
Where at all did we went wrong as people and why all these riffraff non motivation and non encouragingly inspiring officials in sensitive positions ruining Ghana?

Carrying files from one office to another and even secretaries send them to buy them lunch. They are used as massengers and may never hold a pen for the the servive period. Let them direct tracfic for the nation would have direct benefit from the taxes spent on them. Afterall what work do they do went they go abroad.? Washing plates, pole dancing, looking after old ladies and the good old trade prostitution. You may wish to do the comparism. Bye

Are there graduates in the Police Service and Military Police who perform traffic duties? What is coming from the PUSAG is absurdity. When I was a student in Russia and then Cuba even post graduate students who completed their national service in the army go to direct traffic as volunteers. So is the case in China and Vet Nam where even medical officer, engineers and even chief executive of some companies direct traffic when the need arise for them to volunteer.

It all depends on how the message was delivered to the students. This should be seen as a patriotic effort to serve the country and not as a dead end career trap which should have been conveyed to the students. Love of and service to one's country should eventually become part of the learning experience in Ghana. Unfortunately, our leaders do not exemplify this selfless behavior worthy of emulation so there is bound to be resistance to such a great idea of bringing order to the citizens. We should learn to crawl before we walk. The writer should have thought deep before publishing such an ignorant stance and that is typical symptom of our educational system. Every graduate thinks they are entitiled to a castle while they cannot even express themselves and do not possess any proven life experience. If nothing at all, this should be seen as a place to collect experience and grow. Please be mature!

The Ghanaian mentality. Graduates directing traffic and so what?. You would prefer them to go for white collar job and sitting in air conditions in the ministries with their degrees in agriculture and science and other technical specialism. Go to western development countries and you'll realised that there are people with second and even PhDs driving buses, working in restaurants as kitchen cleaners, sweeping the street, collecting garbage and would do anything to earn their living in this austerity. Things are changing and a man got to do what he got to do. A traffic warden is better than an armed robber.
