Science has spoken and, yes, gentlemen, size does matter.
A newly published study by a University of Ottawa researcher has concluded penis length exerts a measurable sway on females evaluating potential sexual partners.
"We found that flaccid penis size had a significant influence on male attractiveness," concludes the study that was published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.
"Males with a larger penis were rated relatively more attractive."
Biologist Brian Mautz said he came to the study through curiosity over the evolution of male genitalia. Compared to other male primates, human endowment is generous.
"This observation has generated suggestions by evolutionary biologists that the comparatively larger human penis evolved under premating sexual selection," says his paper. "Novels, magazines and popular articles often allude to the existence of a relationship between penis size and sexual attractiveness or masculinity."
Nor is the effect limited to pop culture.
"Another project I was on, looking at female preferences in genital size in fish, showed that females actually do discriminate in males before copulation even begins," Mautz said. "That potentially influences genital evolution."
Previous studies have attempted to discern what women like by, for example, asking them to choose between a series of drawings of men that vary only in the size of the anatomy in question. Mautz believes those conclusions are probably limited by self-censorship.
"When you directly ask someone about a sensitive topic, you're likely to get some bias in responses," he said. "Penis size isn't supposed to matter."
His study tried to mask its intent by introducing three variations on male appearance: body shape (shoulder-to-hip ratio), height and penis size. Those variables were presented in seven gradients, small to large, and intermixed until there were 343 combinations.
Each variation was represented in a computer-generated, life-sized picture of a naked male, which could be rotated to allow an examination of the image in profile. A study group of 105 heterosexual women were then asked which picture they found most sexually attractive.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, they preferred men who were tall, long and V-shaped. Overall, body shape accounted for about 80 per cent of the variation in attractiveness scores, penis size about six per cent and height about five per cent.
"The finding suggests that selection on penis size is potentially as strong as selection on stature."
That finding was reinforced by slower response times for some pictures.
"We found a significantly positive, albeit small, correlation between penis size and response time," the study says. "This finding is consistent with a pattern in adults whereby attractive stimuli are viewed for longer periods."
That attraction, however, wasn't a simple formula of bigger is better.
"Attractiveness increases rapidly until you reach around average for each of the three traits," said Mautz. "Then, although the attractiveness continues to increase, it doesn't increase as much."
What was truly interesting was the interaction between the three traits, Mautz said.
"If you look at how penis size interacts with male height, it has a differential effect at the lower height sizes. Take the tall men -- you get a really big impact (in attractiveness) of how large your penis is relative to your height.
"An increase in penis size if you're of average height does influence your attractiveness. It doesn't do quite as much as it does at the upper end of the height spectrum.
"If you're short, it doesn't matter what size your penis is."
Statistically, 185-cm tall men get about twice the boost in attractiveness that their 165-cm friends do as length increases from six to 10 cm.
If that doesn't seem fair, Mautz hastens to point out his study only considered three male traits.
Characteristics such as musculature -- not to mention a pleasant smile or great hair -- were not considered.
Still, he said, his results do suggest that male gentalia factor into sexual selection and are therefore subject to evolutionary pressure.
"It shows that females can exert a choice and influence genital evolution, which is a relatively understudied area."
His conclusions also have considerable intrinsic interest.
"You're my first interview," Mautz told The Canadian Press. "I'm watching emails roll into my account as we speak."

Over the past few years the government has to refused to notice or refused pay attention to activities which will cause our existence in the near future. These activities include large scale mining along the banks many rivers, creeks and streams. Thereby polluting these body of waters which serves as only source of water in our villages. Depilating our reserved parks to endanger the wildlife. It is very sad when one reads a news articles like this. If the forestry commission and tourism officer are aware then of course the sector ministries are aware and should have reacted, this has been going on for 2years and no action has been taken. As for our traditional ruler the less said the better.

The matter is simple our leaders have shown time and time again that they do not care about the general populace and the future of Ghana and therefore our children and those yet unborn. What are leaving for posterity to judge us by, "MEDIOCRITY"?

The PPP has said and continue to say "IF it does not benefit Ghana then our leaders should stop it". It is that simple, but our present core of leaders led by the ubiquitous JDM does not see beyond their noses, in fact it is beyond them to understand what is going on around them.

Do we have a leader, institutional heads, chiefs etc.? Why allow foreigners to come to our country and take everything away for virtually free. Can we go to China or for that matter any other country to mine their minerals and deplete their forests? What are we doing to ourselves as a nation? If we don't wake up now and deal drastically with the situation in which we find ourselves now posterity will never forgive us. We are putting our descendants lives into jeopardy.

President Mahama, if indeed you are the president then take a decisive step now! Deal with the problems at hand irrespective of our diplomatic relationship with the Chinese. Ghana cannot be bought with the Chinese loan of US$30 million. The loan is not free and even if it is free it cannot be compared with the natural endowments that God has bestowed on us.

All Ghanaians in positions of authority, please do something to save the country from these unscruplous strangers.

As a result of the construction of the Fufulso-Sawla road by Chinese contactors, The Forestry commission aawarded a contract to Messrs. savanah Investmet ltd to salvage those economic tree species found on the shoulders of the road... part of which falls within the Mole National Park and the Kenikeni Forest Reserve. It's heartwrenching to continually read over and over how the CHINESE are destroying Ghana, when they are being enabled by OUR own ghanaian people. "Aha! I've caught you poachin' fish red-handed," says the warden.

"What do you mean, red-handed?" says Kodjo.

"You've got a bucket full of 'em right there. You can't talk your way out of it this time."

"Oh, you don't understand," says Kodjo, "I've not poached a thing. These are me pet fish.

I bring 'em to the reservoir once a week for exercise.

After they've had a good swim, they come back to the bucket and we go back home."

"Do ya expect me to believe such a tale?"

"I can prove it." say Kodjo.
So they walk back to the reservoir and Kodjo dips the bucket in and the fish swim away.

They stand in silence for 20, 30, 40 minutes...no sign of the fish coming back to the pail.

Complete misleading headline out there by the reporter! Yes, theere are all kinds of loggers in the area stripping the land of its timber and destroying the beautiful vegetation. But the truth is non of these companies is a chinese logging company. They are all Ghanaian companies. The company constructing the Fufulso-sawla road is a chinese company and not Savanah investment company. Savanah Investment ltd is a Ghanaian logging company awarded a concession by the Forestry Commissio to salvage trees on the shoulders of the road been constructed by the Chinese. Part of the road traverse the Mole National Park and the Keni keni Forest reserve. Staff of the park have strictly monitored and supervised the extraction activities of Savanah investment ltd to ensure that they don't go out of the construction zone. In effect the Forestry commission did not award any logging contract to the same company constructing the road (Be it Savana or the Chinese). No single tree has been felled in Mole National Park outside the shoulders of the road. So I believe this reporter is simply using the name of Mole National Park, which is a prime park in Ghana to sell his story/paper, and I urge him to desist from such misleading stories. Mole is well protected and NO Chinese or any National can venture such a thing in the Park without paying dearly for it!( Am ana authority of the Park)

UNPATRIOTIC, IGNORANT, IDIOTIC AND STUPID GHANA LEADERS

|was in China for two weeks from the UK and experienced first hand how the Chinese secure their country against foreigners and their own nationals. It may be inconvenient for foreigners but this is how they do it and if you dont like it dont come to their country.

You cannot buy a train ticket to go anywhere by train without showing your passport. Your passport details are entered into a database so they can track your movements if they need or you give them concern to do so.

Before you board the train your ID is checked and again you have to produce your passport. Your bags are scanned at every station you travel from and on the underground trains your bags will be scanned each time you travel.

The Chinese have a system which works for them and it is effective in tracking illegal visitors. There is no way you can go to China and just decide you want to dig for gold or cut down some 100 year old trees for your business as a foreigner.

Our leaders have travelled all over the world and have seen what other progressive countries are doing to protect their countries and their citizens. Yet because of their greed, apathy, lack of love for Ghana and blatant selfishness these leaders are prepared to sell Ghana to the lowest bidder.

We should pass a law in parliament to prevent chiefs from selling any land unless they go through the Lands commission or a body set up specially to take care of the interests of the nation on land matters so that if any foreigner wants to buy land it is done on a leasehold basis for a period. The freehold should never be sold to foreigners. It belongs to Ghanaians.

Unless steps are taken by leaders of Ghana to secure the land for Ghana within 25 years no Ghanaian will own any land in Ghana. We would have sold out.
