@ Don Blunt, this particular issue has nothing to do with the executive. All over the world, it's only MPs (Legislature) that meet and decide their own salary. It has nothing at all to do with the party in power. Africa is very impoverished, but you would be amazed at the salary that MPs earn in their respective countries. At least in the UK, second homes for MPs are paid for by the tax payer. Taxi fares, TV pay-per-demand bills, restaurant bills and all manner of expenses by these MPs are all paid out of the public purse. Democracy is simply a very expensive venture, no wonder politicians will kill to win elections to parliament, house of representatives and senates. They are all of the same breed. Very greedy.

Se what you are doing to mother Ghana.Looting all its resources and paying yourselves huge sums of money. For what? Going around begging for loans? Only for you to drive big cars, build huge mansions and surround yourselves with body guards. To be called 'honourables' and patting your backs for no accomplishment. Worst of all faking to love God. See, brandng the doctors and Pharmacists as unpatriotic, greedy and not putting the lives of their patients first. How could they when they do not get infusions pumps, in their hospitals, saturation monitors, pressure machines, but their MP's are paid 200,000Ghs. You know what that sum of money can do for a hospital-lots!!. Honestly, tell me who is being unpatriotic. Mahama and his cronies. Why should Dr Boamah walk the corridors of Korle-Bu where it will take him ages to earn he amount of money being dashed to these non-performing politicians. Just examine your conscience, you want to be paid as politicians in the West, but you want your doctors and pharmacist to tighten theirs belts and not compare themselves o their colleagues in the west. How dare you, Mahama and you cronies. Judgement day will come and you are all going to pay for your sins!!

In Ghana everything is shrouded in secrecy due to sinister forces and powers in disguise. For the love of money they (NDC and NPP) condone and connive. It has become crony capitalism and has nothing to do with party politics. This is “cryptocracy“ to say the least for a few elites or thieves who have been given the key to the treasury of our national coffers. To put it blunt this is daylight robbery at gun/pen point.
The present situation in Ghana is like flipping a coin – you either get NDC or NPP (head (n) or tail) but the irony in the whole matter is no matter how you flip the coin it falls on the same side. NDC and NPP are the same side of the coin. It is like in Greek mythology; Ghanaians are stuck between Scylla and Charybdis. These monsters of sea both devour you. Boy oh boy, it is like having to choose between a rock and hard place or find yourself between the devil and the deep blue sea. Either way it is not pretty. Ghanaians are PUNKED!!!!
Psalm 14:1
They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good. .... to such a man nothing would be more dark and distressing than anything which ...
Now to all silly ass good for nothing MPs who are trying to justify one fraud with another. I say what a scandalous analogy from dumbasses. I can only say this; only a thief knows his fellow thief or partner in crime. How can you exchange one swindle (scam) for another? This happens only in blockhead MPs like we have parading the corridors of power in Ghana. In a sum our so called MPs are good for nothing but masters of disasters like locusts.
Elsewhere salaries are being cut but not in Ghana. From Cyprus, Malawi, Kenya, Singapore etc. Only in Ghana MPs have the following mouth watering largesse at the cost of Ghanaian tax payers?
Free Bungalows
Free telephone
Free garden boy
Free watchman
Free cook
Free baby-sitter
Interest free $50,000 for car /car maintenance allowance
Free driver/Chauffeur
Free petrol
Travel allowances/per diem
Committee allowance for chatting and devouring Chinchinga
After all these freebies they still cry for ex-gratia. It is high time to abrogate the ex-gratia. It is long overdue.
What a SWIZZ! IT'S A SWIZZ! Shame on you white collar thieves. This is most abominable and nothing short of that.
“If any MP truly cares about Ghana and its people, they will refuse these payments. In 2009 President Mills froze ex-gratia payments because of the public outcry they caused but in the end, the MPs won - and they are still winning.”
Proverbs 19:28
A corrupt witness (in this case Ghana MPs) mocks at justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil.
Freebies for state officials wherever you look; but no money for teachers, doctors, nurses, farmers and youth employment scheme etcwho the pulse of the nation. Hmmm! This is grotesque in its purest form. President Mahama must stop this crazy deal for the sake of the underprivileged in our society. Don’t let this monstrous deal get wings to fly. A word to the wise is in the north pardon enough.

My son recently called me and asked me why I would not come to Ghana to make money from politics? Is it not ridiculous? The legislators are all crooks, because unlike politicians in America and elsewhere, who want to be famous for leading their people to prosperity, Ghanaian law makers think, only, about their opulence and comfort, than improving the lives of the very underprivileged people who put them in where they are!!!!

I am shocked that Ghanaians are not in the streets already! How on earth can a nation's leaders STEAL in broad daylight like this? Do we really know what is happening? There is no advanced economy where the lawmakers make more money than the top professionals like doctors, finance executives, professors etc. In the US, Congressmen make $174,000 a year and rent their own apartments and buy their own cars from that salary. That US lawmaker makes roughly 4 times the per capita income of that country. If Ghanaian lawmakers were to be paid comparable salaries, they will get GHC 1000 a month and pay their rent and buy their car from that salary. Surgeons in the US make from $300,000 going a year, almost twice the salary of the Congressman. On top of this huge salary, the useless MP in Ghana also gets GHC 50,000 housing allowance and every 4 years gets also GHC 200,000? What kind of broad daylight stealing is this? I will be 1000% surprised if there is NO COUP in GHANA in the next one to two years! Really Surprised!!!

In every place that I have worked, the employers give pay raises and bonuses based on performance of each individual employee. The MPs in Ghana are the employees of the citizens of Ghana and therefore their salaries and benefis should all be decided by the citizens not the MPs themselves.
I think there should be a non-partisan group of people chosen from all walks of life from all over the country who will meet at certain times to discuss and recommend what should be the right salaries and benefits to be paid to the MPs. That is a fair and better way to handle the MPs. Ghanaians should not leave the matters to the MPs to decide how they the MPs should be compensated because that will be like asking a fox to be a caretaker for chicken. There will be blood!

Ghanaians get the leaders they deserve, the Ghanaian just votes for a party because of ethnic affiliation; common sense is out of the window.
What really scares me about the Ghanaian mentality is that a poor worker making about GHS100 a month enters the voting booth and pulls the lever for a person who belongs to his/her ethnic group to enter parliament and make GHS7,500/month whilst he/she earns a mere GHS100/month, and it is ok to him/her because the person he/she voted for speaks the same language as him/her. He/she never finds out what the person he/she is voting for will be doing to better his/her lot. Ghanaians, therefore, keeps on recycling NPP and NDC government to lord it over them; stealing their money in unison, no arguments from either party against the daylight robbery the NPP/NDC governments perpetuate on mother Ghana on daily basis.
Until the time the average Ghanaian wakes up from his/her slumber and start using the brain, therefore, voting for another party (CPP, PPP, etc.), shedding that stupid adherence to ethnicity, the majority of Ghanaians (99%) will continue living in abject poverty and the NPP/NDC politicians milking mother Ghana dry, no good roads, not enough hospitals, not enough schools, no water, no electricity, no check on armed robbery on the highways and cities, and the list goes on…………
