You want the GFA to just keep hiring everyday without doing anything to retain those hired? What is wrong for a non-paid football player sacrificing for his country to take a temporary break? GFA should all the time go in for talents. Paid politicians retire, but return to even run for higher offices. Why not unpaid footballers? GFA should follow talents to build a stronger team.

Close to year from there would be world cup and Kevin-Prince Boateng want to come back and add second world cup to his resume. The Ayew brothers should have think through this they thought they can hold the country at ransom too bad. Close the door and give the key to my half brother POW. To be honest, the difference with Gyan is that his family was being threatened and he was dealing with some serious psychological issues. In fact, he has still never gotten over the Uruguay miss. I think this last game against Sudan was the first time in a long time he was having fun. This was because he had another striker with him up front. Jordan was upset he was not selected. Dede did not appear when a ticket was purchased for him and a physician was available to him in UAE. Prince just did not think Ghana was important anymore once he got a big contract. Moreover, as I sometimes get frustrated with Gyan, he is clearly the personality of the team. My only issue is that Gyan is not longer a 90 minute player. I think he should be substituted at the 60th minute whenever possible.

What is lacking in this country of ours is discipline - not only in sports but at all levels and sectors.
The GFA as it is constituted today has no outstanding personalities in it that I can vouch for, otherwise I would have also emphasized Kim Grants call on them to discipline any of those kids with over-bloated egos with suspensions and outright dismissals from our national team. That will teach any future national team member who wants to mess around with the name of Ghana to sit up and get their act in order. If they think it is better for them to play for white people and be constantly insulted as monkeys, they should stay there and continue to be ridiculed in front of their wives and children. It is their business. Our business is that we dont want any badly brought up children in the Black Stars team to set bad examples for our children and Ghanaian youth in general. Kim Grant, well done!

Bringing them back into the team will breed indiscipline. Ghana made KP Boateng what he is and he turned his back on us. Dede refused to join the team because his brother was not called. The boys are behaving this way due to advice from their father Abedi. No one is above the rules of the team. Ghana abounds in talent, and there is no reason whatsoever why the coach should be forced to engage the services of players who think they are special and above the rules, be they Baba Yara's, Tony Yeboah's, Osei Kofi's, Mohamed Polo's, Abedi Pele's or even John Mahama's kids, PERIOD. There must be discipline in the team and the coach must not be dictated to by anybody. In 2012, with an expatriate coach, Dede and and Jordan, Ghana reached semi finals of AFCON. Without the three in 2013, Ghana reached semi-finals in AFCON. Don't force our coach to take these boys back. They must apologize unreservedly before they are accepted back into the team, and their father must be made to pledge that he will not interfere in the affairs of the GFA.

I have written on the difference above. I just want to add that his penalty miss at the World Cup was probably the most painful miss not just for Ghana but for Africa. As a result, psychologically, it was best for him to step away for some time. It was best for him and the team. I think it is good that he is no longer the penalty taker. I think what Dede, Jordan and Prince did had an air of arrogance. They might not have meant it that way but it came off that way. Moreover, when you are a player who was born and/or mostly raised outside Ghana, you should be aware that you are a target and be strategic in your wording. They are good players and good people who just made bad public relations decisions and are paying the price now. The 4-0 drubbing of Sudan silenced many who thought those players had to be on the team.

"Choose, use and discard makes no team"
"You have got to maintain, nurture, cherish and love what you have

Here is one:
Like your half brother would say: "Am not agreed wit you" nito, nito.
In that, it is my father's house. it is my legitimate right to do whatever I please, and still, get away with it.
"Oheneba ne nea ne papa te ase" purportedly demands our culture.
The fine line between winning and losing is often drawn by our perception of failure. To the downtrodden who sleep in public rest rooms and on park benches, failure represents the end of the road. They interpret one of life's catastrophes as a kind of personal annihilation and allow it to totally destroy their sense of self, of purpose, and of relationships.(quoted)
To this end, the man with a purpose, on the other hand, is able to accept failure as a temporary setback or distraction and use that experience to improve his performance.
Failing therefore can present life's most valuable lessons.
Over and over, I've heard declarations like "getting fired was the best thing ever happened to me" Or 'The divorce, although a terrible blow, forced me to grow up, and now I'm a better person" and whatchugot?
Can we therefore liken the illustrations above to the exact happening of these recalcitrance?
Yep! we should.
Everything works in their favour. They are full blown Ghanaians.
The properties therein are
bonafide to them.
They can decide to hawk, pawn or destroy them and they face no retribution whatsoever.
Even though their attitude is of the undesirable type, they are not the best of players in the pool, are not the only players born to TeamGhana, there's little or nothing we can do about it other than to counsel them and bring them to the fold.
"If one sheep go astray, the shepherd by instinct leaves the entire cradled unprotected in pursuance of the single astrayed sheep. Why is that?
True, these knuckle heads are no better than what we have on the sheets
but would do a whole world of good to us if they should be recorded on the sheet as our new line up.
Just go figure it out.
Are we having our pride and ego dominating our sense of brotherliness?
Hanza.
Don't you realize, or feel the famine,
the afflicted 31 years of starvation
and that, we need all the food nutrients necessary to keep body and soul healthy?
Well, to keep happy thoughts, you must constantly scan your mind for negative ones, which, perversely, defeats the process of positive thinking, period.

I have been advocating the total ban of these Players from the Blackstars since they went on retirement on their own accord. This is not brain surgery and it shouldn't even take a former Blackstar Player with international experience to tell GFA that.
Football is a team game and the moment some Players start to demand special treatment for themselves and the Authorities cave in to their demands, that will be the beginning of indiscipline and division among the Playing body. It is better to have less talented team with discipline, patriotism and unity than tohave superstars in a team playing individually.
Thank you Mr Grant for telling us the obvious, this is not a brain surgery. If the three Players want to come back, let them write a letter of apology to the team and the GFA and pledge to be on their good behaviour or they should be allowed to enjoy heir retirement permanently.

So far as I know, there is not rule against taking time off from the Black Stars. If you want to pass a rule, it should be made in such a way that it does not appear to target a specific family. Essien took time off and has still not returned, Gyan did so on two occasions, Kevin did it. Why do people find it so difficult to swallow the Ayew's doing the same?
I support discipline, but that does not mean that I support disciplinary measures that have not been thought through. A disciplinary measure should not be seen to have been born out of hatred against certain individuals.
The best way to go about this is to let the Ayew's return to the team, then make the rule. So that going forward players will know ahead of time, the consequence of their action. Leaders must foster unity, but not to be seen as agents of division, and retribution. Reckless measures could put the unity of the team in jeopardy.

Now on the issue of discipline, I think a committee need to be form to study the issue and come up with a recommended set of measures that is totally devoid of bias or personal desire to settle scores. The GFA too must clean their house.
My concern is that since this issue of temporal retirement emerged, the GFA has not done any research to try to determine the root cause. We have people throwing their distorted and ill-informed views around as if we have no educated people who can think logically in the country. What we need is a permanent solution, not a knee-jerk solution with the primary purpose of making scapegoats out of some people, while others get rewarded.

Who are the non-paid players? Or what do you mean by non-paid? If they are non-paid as you claim, don't forget, the Black Stars team is the platform they (most) used to get to where they are now. How many Ghanaians earned or earns the money they made during the just ended Cup of Nations? My friend, they are paid. Do not just call it an allowance, consider the money involved and you will then see it as payment for their service to the nation like the soldiers and the police officers.

Totally agree with you Kim. Kevin's behavior surprised me the most, because he used the Black Stars to lime light and then dumped the team in particular and the nation in general.

I love the Ayew brother Dede because he is so much dedicated to playing for Ghana. Some of them are so young they need to be corrected.
Genuinely, some may have problems with the GFA but that does not warrant decisions that they take. GFA should pardon all and streamline issues and address the concern of players. However, any player who retires must retire for good.

There is a difference between Asamoah and Essien's situations. Asamoah took sometime out and came back, but Essien did not till now. Asamoah did not take a time out because he wanted a guaranteed playing time(Ghanaians were the reason), or had any discrepancies with the GFA, FA or the coach. He even relinquished his captainship to Sule Muntari when he (Sule) returned to play for the Black Stars. In short, Asamoah was not ADAMANT and did not betrayed us like ESSIEN and KEVIN DID. I prefer the AYEWS being forgiven to forgiving KEVIN and ESSIEN. The Ayews' situation is a childish one, but for the KEVIN and ESSIEN's, forget it.

Any idiot can just say anything he does not even understand. What has this fool achieved for Ghana. Try and find the root cause(s) for the players behavior and draw the conclusion as to whether it's the fault of the players or the FA or both. When Asamoah Gyan went on temporary retirement, where were you. Akwasi Appiah, the clueless coach had to beg him and even compensated him with the captains band for him to return.Until the FA become serious and devoid of jealousy of the Ayews as well as other hardworking Ghanaians, this player retirement saga will persist. Again, the FA should stop their shameless bribe taking from players and the victimization of enlightened players who will not kow tow to their shameless activities. They must also eschew the nepotism that is eating deep into the fibric of the glorious BS.

Kevin prince used us to increase status so that he could be noticed by clubs.. forget him. Essien just thinks he's too great for ghana, I remember going to a Ghana vs Australia game in london, all the fans gave him the biggest cheer when he came off the coach and he didn't even present us with a smile! Gyan, I'll kind of accept because he was heavily criticised, he did need time to find himself. And the Ayew brothers are just trend followers who need no consideration, who are you (Jordan Ayew) to ask that you get regular playing time, you play for the nation or you play for yourself, you decided you'd play for yourself.. and Andre Ayew, it was your own fault you were late for training, you were given a deadline and didn't meet it, WHY?! because you don't take Ghana seriously ..
Remove these guys (not so much Essien he has helped in the past and not Gyan)! God bless Ghana!

They have the winning mentality to get to the top. Yes we may have the talent but there are other special qualities that these guys bring to the table that is missing now on the team. Did anyone of you see how Egypt beat Ghana last Saturday? The game seemed to be Ghana's and the team choked when taking the penalties. Ghana should learn to be the best and not second, third, fourth or fifth best. Guys look at the big picture.

Yes, we do not pay for their living but there is an important point you are missing. Both KPB and Dede are who they are now because Blackstars gave them the big stage to revive their careers.
KPB was clubless or was not being sought by any good team in Europe after his English team was relegated. It was because of his exploits in South Africa in 2010 that exposed him to the big clubs in Europe and a good contract.
What about Dede? Maybe you started watching football a year ago but Dede was toiling in a second division team in France after he had failed to win a place in the Marseilles team. He was on loan to a second division team in France when he palyed for Blackstars in the 2010 world cup where he excelled and a lot of teams were gunning for him which made Marseilles to recall him to their first team and as they say, the rest is history so don't say they don't get anything for playing for Blackstars. Playing for Blackstars even makes it easier for them to get easy working visas to play in Europe unlike Players who don't play for their national teams.

I PERSONALLY DON'T HAVE GREAT AFFINITY FOR THE KEVIN BOY OR THE AYEW BROTHERS. BUT IN THE WORLD OF COMPETITIVE FOOTBALL YOU WANT TO FIELD THE BEST YOU HAVE. REMEMBER THAT IT ONLY TAKES 11 BEST PLAYERS TO SHINE ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE. YES, WE HAVE OTHER TALENT PLAYERS IN GHANA BUT THE QUESTION IS CAN THEY COMPETE AT THE LEVEL AS THESE 3 INTERNATIONAL STARS? THAT IS THE ONLY REASON WHY I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD WELCOME THEM BACK. THEY ARE USING GHANA TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS ON THE BIG STAGE AS MUCH AS GHANA IS USING THEM TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL. AND THAT IS TO WIN BIG DURING THE WORLD CUP. DOES IT MAKE SENSE, GUYS?

Don't deceive yourself that most of these Players would have played for Ghana if the European countries wanted them. The only Player that was wanted by the European country and chose to play for Ghana was Quincy Owusu Abeyie for Holland.
Bal0telli and the Manchester United striker, all with Ghanaian parents shunned Ghana to play for Italy and England because those countries wanted them. Believe me, if those countries have rejected them, they would have played for Ghana.

The Ayews and Kevin Prince Boateng are not the first and are surely not going to be the last to call time off their career with the Black Stars.
It is not possible to reject some of our best players and expect to have our best team. Ghana needs all its top players so as to achieve maximum effect on the international stage. We have failed to win AFCON for over 30 years because our failure consistently to assemble the possible best team each time.
In 1992 for instance, we had a solid team that qualified for the AFCON so easily but by the time we weny for the competition the team was disrupted by dropping some of the top stars for inexperienced U17 players. Had this not been done, we could have won the final match with Ivory Coast even in the absence of Abedi Pele.
In the judt concluded AFCON 2013 in S. Africa, we clearly did noy present the best BS. The excellent team presented to play Sudan shows that we could have presented a better team.
Kim Grant's advice though given in good faith, is not the best.

You Grant, can you tell me Ayew is not dedicated? Why dont we asked the cause of the sadden change. Gyan returned and was captain. Suley returned and had the band. Ghanaians we dont think deep about issues. Suley who was suppose to be a bad boy is now all of sudden blackstars spoke person. Ask about how the players are managed rather than expressing hate. None of these players are stupid. They have families too. Grant go and think again. Your article is just one of those senles articles about these subject matter so far.

The names mentioned above should be denied access in playing for the team. They should've respected the team before signing off or temporary calling off. Not heard of these speechless temporary calling off. Can a serious pastor who loves the LORD temporary shut the Church down and tell the congregation when i feel like i ll open the church. The LORD will surely give it to another person who is serious. So my dear Grant, i think your decision about the boys not returning makes sense and they should not be allowed back into the team. They have to learn how to appreciate the little they have. Remember those guys in the bible when talents were given to them by their master. All of them brought in extra talent although it wasn't enough expect the greed one who said the master has not sworn here, but wants to reap from there. So u see thus what the three boys have done, they never appreciated those talent they had from Ghana thinking it's small; therefore, why then should we go and get some for Ghana. Mr. Grant, plz let them be and lets pray the remaining would strike well by his grace and hopefully they would reach far in the tournament. All the best Black Stars

Guys like Agyemang-Badu,Wakaso, Asamoah, Waris, Atsu, and the rest are much better than these guys. We also have the likes of Owusu-Abeyie and Nana Asare who are much better than these guys. [edit]Club career
Born in Sekondi-Takoradi, Grant started his career at Charlton Athletic in their youth system and he signed his first professional contract in March 1991.[1] He went on to make 155 appearances spanning over nine years and scoring 25 goals.[2] He later made appearances for Charlton against Manchester United and Liverpool in the FA Cup and scored a 20 yard curler to beat David James in a 2–1 defeat to in 1996.[3]
In March 1996,[1] Luton Town paid £250,000 to bring him to Kenilworth Road.[2] He spent one and half years at Luton, making 43 appearances and scoring eight goals.[2] Following a loan spell in which he scored four goals in five appearances, Grant moved to Millwall for £185,000 in September 1997 and went on to make 57 appearances, scoring nine goals.[2] He was on loan at Notts County from December 1998 to February 1999, where he made six appearances and scored one goal.[2]
Grant left Millwall in 1999 to play in the Belgium Premier League with KFC Lommel, commanding a transfer fee of £65,000.[2] After one season with Lommel, during which he scored three goals in 19 league appearances, he left and played in the Portuguese second division for F.C. Marco in the 2000–01 season, making two league appearances.[4]
Grant returned to England in August 2001 after signing for Scunthorpe United, making five appearances and scoring one goal, before signing with Yeovil Town in October.[2] In his first year, Yeovil won the FA Trophy cup and finished second in the Football Conference. In his second year, Yeovil were crowned champions of the Football Conference, winning promotion to the Football League.
Having made 39 appearances and scored eight goals for Yeovil Grant returned to Portugal in 2003 to sign for Imortal Albufeira where he played for the 2003–04 season, making 12 league appearances and scoring six goals.[2][4] Grant later played in the Malaysian Super league for Sarawak FA, scoring three goals in eight league appearances in 2004.[4] A spell with Japanese 2nd division side Shonan Bellmare followed, failing to make any appearances in 2005.[4]
He returned to England with Gravesend & Northfleet in August 2005.[2] After making seven appearances and scoring one goal for Gravesend Grant had a four-game spell with AFC Wimbledon after signing in February 2006.[4][5][6] He signed for Sengkang Punggol FC of the S.League in 2006, where he scored 10 goals in 19 league appearances.[4] He signed for Geylang United FC in 2007, making seven league appearances and scoring three goals.[4]
Kim Grant is also a direct descendant of Arthur Wharton the world first black professional football.
[edit]International career
From 1996 to 1997, Grant was capped seven times and scored once for his country of birth Ghana.[4]
[edit]Coaching and managerial career
Grant was appointed as manager of Conference National side Woking in May 2008.[7] However, after seven games, from which Woking picked up two points, he was sacked on 3 September.[8] He returned to Ghana in the summer of 2009 to become owner and head coach of newly-founded club F.C. Takoradi.[9]

Grant thinks Kwesi Appiah and Kewsi Nyantakyi have it all wrapped up and delivered on golden platter. Rather advise the coach and GFA management on proper management practices instead of shutting a so called door. Better remove the door so there will be non for Ayews and Boateng to pass through.

I think there is a fundamental disturbing issue with the GFA that discourages players from playing for the country and that is the problem, we shouldn’t punish players who speak up. There has been speculation that money is demanded from players by GFA heads, before they are allowed to play. So, we should look into that first.

kim Grants argument may hold on the surface of it but if one understands the organizational culture of Ghana I believe that person will see it differently.let us stop for a moment and ask ourselves why for instance a player could be invited to the national team when at the time he is just played a few times for his club and then when he finally secures a regular place at his club he is deemed not good enough for his national team. And we are talking of no less a club than OM of the french league.A player who has scored seven goals in half a season for OM must surely not be on the decline and must be good enough for ghana. There certainly is something wrong with the organisation of the game in ghana and we have to take emotions out of it.The circumstances around the axing of Dede out of the team is equally questionable. And when these individuals react, human as they are, we need to try and understand.

Olympic Marseiles is NOT a big team; As a matter of fact the French league is 2nd tier, compared to EPL,La Liga and Serie A!! If a player from OM scores 7 goals it doesn't guarantee him an automatic selection in the starting lineup. This is what Jordan is demanding! He should take his brother's route by hanging with the Satellites for a year or so.I've always been a big admirer of Dede up until the day he got substituted in a match last year. The sour attitude he displayed that day convinced all that Dede has grown horns and feels indispensable to the Team.
Let these boys enjoy their retirement! As for Boateng, the least said, the best. we all know his intentions. He's gonna retire again after the world cup if we take him back!!.

I can't even believe they're on their

The right and best thing to do not only about these playersissue, but in all other areas is to focus, encourage and support the dedicated ones willing to raise and protect the image of the country.
These arrogance and disrespect attitude of many Ghanaians must be tackled and dealt with.
It's a matter of choice commitment. If ffor whatever reason anybody decides not to serve the country, there should be no begging.

They then go on to put down conditions to the coach for their return to the Black Stars team. What a cheek. Kim Grant, I disagree with you. Tell me who are the playmakers we have in the Black Stars now? There are none comparable to the Abedi's. Most people commenting negatively on this issue don't understand soccer. They only watch soccer games and expect that their team win. Those who understand soccer will not talk this way, rather, they will suggest solutions to the problem. Mr. Grant, you are wrong.

Look i believe what Kim is trying to say is that, whenever a player either refuses to play or wants a break from the national team, there serious issues with the federation or within the team itself, Grant mentioned a few names as an example and every playere HAS to earn the right to play for the national team, it does not matter whether he plays for a top european team or a minor team, each player has to be on current form and NOT by name if the players is famous, i stand by kim’s comments and he never said no player should not return but lessons must be learnt and players cannot jump ship whenever they want. I would like to see how many players will want to return if ghana does qualify for the world cup 2014, i would say virtually all of them, becuase it will be their highlight of their careers and pick up hefty bonuses on the way, i only believe what ever team or squad that qualifies us a nation then these players have the right to be on the plane to the world cup 2014 and exlcuding players who at the begining did not want to particapte or be part of the growth of ghana national team with or without the players who go out on a retirement or do not want to play for the national team. There is unbeleivable talent in Ghana and far i believe far better than whats in all current nationl teams and its upto the GFA to sound out these players have a professional structure and develpoment plan in place to prove that they are given the right to wear the ghana national jersey and for the player to play with pride and passion for his beloved country. The national team will be here always, players will come and go as well, and be replaced, I believe its time now to look to the future and stop going back to the same old over paid players who believe the have the right to come and go whenever they please. Ghana national team was here before them and will still be after they are gone.
