A step in the right direction. A rare positive news. Provide opportunities for inmates to get better education to help them find a useful place in society.

As the adage goes 'afotuo nnsesa onipa gye se nsohwe'.Now that these inmates qualified to university and as the law does not permit them to have conversional education, I suggest that the prison authoritie and the government should lectures for them so that they can have degrees in various field of study. I know the real name for prison is 'CORRECTIONAL SERVICE' thta is to correct somebody after doing wrong thing, but in Ghana we only know of PRISON.Integrate them after their university education.

Hello Yaw,
These are inmates or prisoners. The fact that they have been successful in their Senior High School Examinations and are qualified for university admission does not mean that they are going to be released from jail. I am sure they will be made to serve their full sentences before they are released, after which they can apply and go to the university to further their education.

They are not in prison because because of truancy but moral and character failure. If there is not character transformation then the education being offered them will make them smart thieves ; and they will be more dangerous to society.
Do please work on the character aspect side by side the academics.
Good beginning though.

This is the BEST news I've ever heard in my country in a very long time. Congratulations to the student prisoners and more grease to your elbows- the Ghana Prisons Service. Indeed Penitentiary or Pen (Prison) is a place for reformation and not total condemnation. Some young people go to prison with minor offences, such individuals must be given the chance to develop their God-given potentials- they are not daft!
The legend Madiba Nelson Mandela, Jacob Zuma (current SA President) and Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe all studied for various degrees while they were in prison. As a professional teacher, I'd love relocate to my country to teach French, Management and Political Science at any level to inmates if given the opportunity.I really am excited about this development and I want to be part of it.
This brings to mind what can the nation and other stake holders do to educate the less privileged in society like the Kaya yoo. We have to give them a vocation.
