Mr Ankra is it a threat or stupidity? The teachers have no option than collectively embark on strike. What is labour union directive? Where were they when the teachers agitated for better pay? Thers a way to resolve this issue just by talking to their leaders. Or do Mr Ankra want to talk or negotiate with all the teachers in his office?
Most of the Ndc opportees are young and have not seen strike and its effects before. They should not joke but have a dialogue and for sure a solution can be found.

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE DOCTORS NOT TAKEN US FOR GRANTED AND DEMANDED HUGE BENFITS AND HELD US ALL TO RANSOM WITH DANGEROUS DEMANDS. AND HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THE LABOUR COMMISSION BEEN BOLD ENOUGH TO DIRECT DOCTORS TO GO BACK TO THE HOSPITALS. IS IT ONLY TEACHERS THEY CAN DIRECT AND FLEX THEIR MUSCLES AGAINST? THIS IS UNFAIR. I DO NOT SUPPORT STRIKES BUT THE CONTROLLERS AND REGULATING BODIES SHOULD BE FAIR IN THEIR DIRECTIVES. WHAT IS GOOD FOR MR "A" IS GOOD FOR MR "B". IS IT A CURSE TO BE TEACHER?

I beg to differ Kodwo, as there is no right to strike in the Ghanaian Constitution. Just refer to Chapter 5 section 21 (1) d and g. Please refer to my comment below....

Fellows, the Labour Commission is right to give out such a "RETURN TO WORK ORDER OR directive. This is because all strikes are illegal, as the Right to Strike is unconstitutional! In every democracy (civilized or not), strikes are illegal. Like in Ghana and all other democracies, the right to form associations and/or join one such as unions, are enshrined in the constitution under "The Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms". Under this chapter, the right to freedom of assembly, and take part in processions and demonstrations are permitted, BUT NEVER THE RIGHT TO STRIKE. The labour law however Only do permit the RIGHT TO STOP DANGEROUS WORK/JOB. There is no country whose constitution allows workers to go on strike.
This is the more reason the labour laws allow the employer to sometimes LOCK WORKERS out of the workplace or even dismiss them (sometimes for them to re-apply, but this time with some form of good behaviour bonds). The government would normally wait for the two sides to negotiate until they reach some form of agreement. When this fail the governments may come in and order the sides to a mediation and/or an arbitration when the need arises.
For those who are in doubt about the legality or illegality of strikes, please read this section of Chapter 5 of the Ghana Constitution .....
" 21.
(1) All persons shall have the right to -
(d) freedom of assembly including freedom to take part in
processions and demonstrations;
(e) freedom of association, which shall include freedom to form or
join trade unions or other associations, national or international, for the protection of their interest;"
....
So, there is no where that mentions that ..everybody can go on strike...
based on this section of the constitution, The Ghana Labour Commission has therefore got the power to ask the striking teachers to go back to work while they negotiate... In countries such as Canada, if the workers fail to return to work, their unions are given hefty fines per every day that they stay off the job.
