My only concern is the corrupt tax officials who will be put in charge of the tax collection and administration. Malpractices in the system, if not checked, would defeat the whole purpose of this exercise.

'Some key proposals and initiatives in the direct tax segment include finalising and passing into law the windfall Tax Bill, which will impose a 10 windfall profit tax on mining companies, and proposals to set off tax credits against liabilities in order to cut back on tax refunds to business.'
The windfall tax is long overdue, and government should impose it immediately with retrospective effect from the time the mining companies started to benefit from the high gold price. GRA must reopen the books of these companies and ensure that all tax liabilities are fulfilled.
We need the money for development. We have been cheated for far too long!
In the same vein, proposals to set off tax credits against liabilities in order to cut back on tax refunds to business are most welcome. We need to increase tax collection significantly to balance the books.
Fiscal prudence and discipline must be maintained to keep inflation down and create the environment for investment, job creation, economic growth and development.

Mr Minister you are getting it. There is an assumption that Ghanaians corporate and personal are refusing to pay taxes. That is wrong, the revenue agencies of the state have not put into place procedures, processes and systems by which taxes can be collected. On this medium it is aledged that since 2006 a company had not paid its taxes. Who is policing the tax man? Why a budget deficit? The foreign govts will bring in the money? Why not devalue the cedi?Independence within colonial structure will not work.
