Sadly, however, it is again not surprising that these African republicans ala rightwing, conservative cum neo-colonialist leanings and with powerful friends in the "international community" (at The Hague ICC) would still not Succumb to the choice of the majority of the people even in such an orderly, peaceful and transparent election.

What is the need of a second round of election if one knows fairly well that they would lose that round as well. Assessment assessment assessment!!!

The fortitude and the relative peace that glamor the Kanyan elections could directly be linked to the preceding political turmoil that saw scores of thousands of innocent blood shed on the streets of Kenya. Being living witnesses to the gloomy picture that characterized the unfortunate war, the Kenyans have no choice than to accept the outcome of the elections for several reasons. War is never good.
That is why I always praise Nana Addo Danquah for showing class and demonstrating to the good people of Ghana, his level of maturity which surpasses any political figure on the black continent in recent times). His posturing is proudly 'un-African'(nuff thx to Prof Okuampah for throwing more light on the ever incorruptible and perceived 'arrogant' son of the land. He is simply the best and methink the supreme court would be extremely fair in its adjudication of the petition before it. Afari-Gyan and Mahama wished for war but God in his own wisdom parried it to the North, John Mahama's own backyard( Kokomba and Bimobas now at each others throat). The STEALERS are definitely going to dance to the wicked tune of their own music.

Although the NDC is now talking about everything remaining normal until the court decides, the initial behavior of the NDC and its supporters was against the NPP petitioning the Supreme Court in the first place. It was as if the constitution did not provide for it. Some of them even said that NPP thought it could influence its friends at the Supreme Court to adjudicate in their favor.

The other difference between the election in Kenya and Ghana is that the EC in Kenya listened to the to the aggrieved and tried for five days to rectify any misunderstanding or mistakes that might been made knowingly or unknowingly. On the contrary, the EC in Ghana was very dismissive and rushed to declare the winner.

You´re right here, Nkrumah did a lot for Ghana, but many of his own country men, Ghanaians never appreciated, leave him/her. We know them in their numbers from the way they talk, they are descendant of UP people now NPP.

Miloshevic of Serbia. Charles Taylor of Liberia. Remember them? If any person is accused of "crimes against humanity" and needs to be tried before the International Criminal Court (ICC), so be it. Uhuru Kenyatta has been committed to stand trial at the ICC towards the end of 2013. His supposed election (which is being contested) as President-elect of Kenya is irrelevant to his pending trial at the Hague. His so-called election (which is under a cloud) actually has ominous consequences for Kenya. Whether he is the President of Kenya or the World, he would have to be tried at the ICC (Rule of Law in Democracy) as a deterrence to all those African political criminals (alleged or not) who think they can hide behind their political office to escape prosecution.

It's really sad that Kenyans have supposedly elected a person facing crimes against humanity, as their President. Justice must be served for all those Luos, Kalenjins and even Kikuyus who perished because of the actions of Uhuru Kenyatta and the remaining OCAMPO FOUR. For those not aware, Uhuru Kenyatta and others charged by the ICC paid Ugandan Police and they shot on sight and murdered some of the 1,200 Kenyans in 2007. There is a memorial around the roundabout of the Kenyatta Highway in Nairobi about those horrible incidents of 2007. The souls of those poor Kenyans are still crying out for justice! I commend the governments of the USA and Britain for saying that they would be "cool" towards a Uhuru Kenyatta government. The Rule of Law in international Law is preeminent. No-one is above the law!!

Can you cite examples, other than the mere coincidence that Nana Akuffo Addo and Raila Odinga have much darker black skin color just like all Southern Sudanese do? You don't even know your origins. All Akans, according to history, migrated from southern Sudan, where most people whose blood have not been mixed with Caucasian blood have very dark skin tone.

The Ghana elections was described as "free and fair?" I was in Kwabenya on election day in Ghana and I was bewildered that but for the extreme vigilance of the NPP candidate, the Electoral Commission officers at Kwabenya constituency tried unsuccessfully to award the winner to an NDC candidate. Remember? The counting and re-counting went on for 13 non-stop hours! That's in just one constituency! Think there is no credence to the fraudulent election rigging claims by the NPP? Wait for the case to begin at the Supreme Court in Accra, Ghana.

It is a must read and shows tells you a lot about his stewardship of a very complex Organization, the UN, and conflict resolution.

The former Yugoslavia (named Serbia after the war) was and still is one of the strongest Christian countries in Europe. Miloshevic was not prosecuted at the ICC because of his faith as a Christian. The horrible massacre of mostly 10,000 men and young Moslem men from Bosnia (apart from forced famine among prisoners of war) sparked international outrage; investigations proved that President Miloshevic himself had authorized those crimes. President Miloshevic was subsequently arrested, charged and tried at the ICC. He died in custody before his trial actually ended! Hope you have learned something useful? Cheers.

Kofi Annan is indeed an African statesman who will be recognized for his true worth for a long time to come.He was resolute and principled as Secretary General of the UN and did not allow himself to be pawn in the UN power game if it reasonable and practicable to do so.He stood up to George Bush when Iraq was invaded by branding the action illegitimate to the surprise of observers and academics of international relation because of the powers of members of the Security council and the damage they can cause to a secretary general.Lets remember that the permanent members of the SC can make and unmake the secretary general so to keep your tenure and beyond as SG they expect you to kowtow to their dictates the example of Boutros Ghali is a case in point.They saw in Kofi Annan a principled and resolute SG who carried out the functions of his office without those fears and thereby making him rather powerful.Again when he was made the special peace envoy by the UN and the Arab league on the Syrian crisis,he rebuffed the political struggle of these powers who were trying to influence his decision but he remained resolute until his position became untenable due to big power interference and politics in the conflict and therefore had to resign on principle.Kofi Annan is an assert to Africa an astute Diplomat and Ghana must be proud to have him as a son.

I heard that statement on one of the news reports of the BBC. I am not hitting hard on anybody. I was just relating what I heard by the BBC report and how it jives with this congratulatory statement.

I am not anti Kofi Annan. I admire him very much for especially bringing honor to Ghana and Africa, and I get especially pissed off when the NDC folks attack him because they somehow perceive him as an NPP supporter.
I just can't reconcile this statement with what I heard before.

Kofi Annan's background as an international diplomat started with his role as a humanitarian peace keeper in the UN.He had stood resolutely against acts of impunity against torture and murder on the scale that took place in Kenya.As a supporter of the ICC it is understandable that he supports their decisions after their investigations.I agree to some extent about your misgivings because ironically almost all the members of the SC but two recognize the ICC.So the impression is being given that it is a court for Africans and their leaders.Kofi has no choice but to support the decision of the icc otherwise his struggle to bring justice to the oppressed will be defeated.Anyway my impression was that his congratulation was for the process and outcome and not to individuals.

The majority of people from that area of Western Kenya support(ed) Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement/Alliance. Yes, Obama's heart is with Raila's party. Yet, we cannot truly say that the election was totally fair; when one side has alleged "massive vote rigging". If you are abreast with Kenyan politics, you would realize that the Chairman of the IBEA (the equivalent of the Ghana Electoral Commission) is a Kikuyu from the same tribe as Uhuru Kenyatta. In Kenya, tribal politics dominate everything. You don't expect a Kikuyu to do everything in his power to ensure that his fellow Kikuyu tribesman won? That, notwithstanding the fact that Uhuru Kenyatta is an indicted criminal waiting to face trial at the ICC in the Hague! Obama won't go to Kenya because he had already threatened to suspend generous aid to the Kenyan government if an ICC indicted criminal became the President.

This is what frosts me about these leaders. They think they are God sent and that everyone should toe the line. Many Kenyans voted for Uhuru Kenyetta because of the blatant attempt by international organizations to interfere. Africans as a whole must tell these bodies to leave them alone to decide their own fate. Why should Obama telegraph what he would do when his side does not win. And Britain, and the rest. Why? This is about them.

I am glad Annan has congratulated Kenyans for the calm way they went about the election, but I wish he had mentioned Kenyatta by name. Let's hope he is breaing out of the straight jacket he has been placed in, to toe their line all the time. This is coming of age, and we applaud him.

Kofi Annan congratulated the Kenyan people for choosing not to use violence to conduct the elections: before and the immediate post election aftermath. Despite that report, 19 people died during the conduct of the elections. I guess that is a drop in the bucket when more than 23 million people went to the polls! In Africa, that is a solid achievement!! More importantly, the congratulations also went to Raila Odinga for choosing a peaceful constitutional route to challenge the results of the election. No-one knows what would happen if the Kenyan Supreme Court proved that Uhuru Kenyatta did not actually win; if and when Raila Odinga's motion is brought forward at the Supreme Court for hearing! Just as there is a cloud over the head of John Dramani Mahama about his "win" in Ghana's Presidential election.
