The present Ghana Army is very coward!!! How can you sit silently in the barracks without rescuing the people from these shameful politicians looting the country and yet singing "Ghana is a middle income country"? Look at the amount of monies these NDC fools shared among themselves in the name of Judgement Debts! Can you imagine Prez Mahama planning to sell a whole Bank just to canceal his brother's debt to allow his brother enjoying his private jet! Even Asiedu Nketia, Hanna Bisiw and mouth water Ablakwa are putting up mansions and fillings stations all over the country! What are you doing Ghana Army? Wake up and learn from 1979! God Bless Ghana

Ama Atta B, NY and Prof D. Nermah,
You may have spoken well, but military adventurism (intervention) has never been an answer. You don't have to look far to know what the June 4, December 31 (Rawlings and his cohorts) brought to Ghana and Ghanaians.
I would rather suggest to the entire electorate to BOYCOT all state-organized functions - which should have started from today's 56th Anniversary of Ghana's Independence. Sadly, there is absolutely NOTHING to show and be proud about, after all these 56 years, yet the President and many myopic politicians are calling on Ghanaians to be patriotic and be proud of the country. What a shame.
Please, DO NOT encourage the military to take arms, because they can and have always been worse off, with the use of the guns and their khaki uniforms.
Long Live Ghana and all Ghanaians who are now speaking the truth.

The fore runners of NPP did this country the disservice of the first Coup, which plunged the country itho its present situation.Like the President said, until we realised that partisanship will not help build the nation , we cant move on. In any case what at all is in the presidency íf not to STEAL that is making people Like Akuffo Addo want to be president At ALL COST? If we start thinking of the country first, WITHOUT THIEVERY as the aim of some of the politicians including the writer, Ghana will move forward. MILITARY INTERVENTION IS NOT THE SOLUTION.

The doctor is bang on with the truth! In times of crisis such as Ghana finds itself currently, all these meaningless so-called independence celebrations should have been postponed. While I was in Ghana only a few short days ago, the commonest celebrations among Ghanaians I saw was the weekly FUNERAL celebrations. An expatriate I was with commented on the "death culture". The late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory set up schools, Akosombo Dam, State Transport system, light industries, state farms, a national shipping line, a national airline, hotels, and the list goes on. Those were the bedrock of development. Where are those national icons now? The Mahama govt is even contemplating selling off Tema Oil Refinery at a time when Ghana is drilling crude oil in commercial quantities! Is that stupid or what? After 56 years of independence (compare Ghana with Malaysia who got political independence at about the same time Ghana did) the economic development state of Ghana is truly SHAMEFUL: with Ghana facing one crisis after another. The current politicians cannot even manage a national health care scheme that benefits ordinary Ghanaians that was started by a previous government. All our politicians do is embezzle state funds. Somebody remarked that there are many young girls who are girlfriends of Ministers driving "big cars" on the streets of Accra. Was that not what the late Gen. Acheampong did with the "girls?" Is history repeating itself? Then there would be another "day of reckoning" when these Ministers would be lined up and shot to death! That day is fast approaching!

Sorry Professor, your first assertion was right. In that, Malaysia had their Independence some Four Months after Ghana's. Furthermore, the King of Malaysia stayed in Ghana for well over TWENTY EIGHT YEARS.
Interestingly Ghana taught Malaysia the technology of growing the Cocoa, and I think the Palm Kernel(I stand to be corrected on the latter).
As years went by, Malaysia decided to do away with their Cocoa Production and concentrate on the Palm Oil after their Research had revealed that that would be more Economical than the Cocoa.
So they destroyed all their Cocoa Plantations in favour of the Palm Kernell Nuts which are being processed for AVIATION FUEL.
The question is, how many of our Ghanaian Intellectuals had ever been able to come out with some Innovative Inventions through Research and Developments, including Professor Arkosah himself who was an Nkrumah Boy??
Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and many of these Asian Countries all ruled with Iron Fits to supress Freedom and Human Rights for their peoples; the same way Dictator Kwame Nkrumah did in Ghana.
Yet these countries have been able to make an Economic Miracle whilst Ghana is still lurching from one Economic Crisis to the other.
Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore was the worst of them all, He preached "poor" to the West, massacred many of his people with the notion that they were "Communists", which made him to attract very large handouts from the West which helped improved their Economy.
At that very same time, Dictator Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana was imprisoning his opponents in Ghana, and calling the West as Imperialists and Devils.
He managed to establish Dictatorship in Ghana and Terrorism Abroad; by silencing his opponents and sending HITMEN to execute those overseas, including some Foreign African Leaders who opposed his concept of One Africa Syndrome.
There are so many Bogans within our NDC Government who all happen to be "graduates" or inbred from the old CPP including Professor Arkosah, Mahama the late ATTA MYTHS( MAY HE REST IN PIECES), who all think spending the Taxpayer's Money to celebrate Dictator Nkrumah's Birthday or Independence would bring him back.
They are all the sort of people who would make us believe that both Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson are still alive.
Prof. Arkosah should have been brave enough to question MAHAMA whether it is true that the late Atta MYTHS set up a Committee to investigate him(MAHAMA) on some Fraudulent Charges.
These were revelations from former Attorney General, Martin Amidu, who is still alive today.
IT IS NOT OVER UNTIL IT IS OVER!!!
Best Regards,

Dear Folks,
Every observation made in this news, by Prof. Agyeman Badu Akorsah is correct, most importantly his statement: "Prof Akorsah blamed Ghana underdevelopment on politicians whom he says have relegated patriotism to the background and are looting the state coffers to enrich themselves."
It is true, but equally sad to note and place on record that Prof. Akorsah can and is able to say this because his Party is not in power. In all sincerity, after reading such submissions/observations, I am of the opinion that ALL our Politicians MUST HOLD themselves accountable - whether in government or being governed. It used to be that it was the "OLD POLITICIANS" who were STEALING from the national coffers, but at present the YOUNG ONES have joined in the looting with impunity. Just look at the wealth and social status of very young ministers (recent University graduates like Okwudjeto Ablakwa, Muntaka and their likes). What a shame. Even our President can be considered a young man, compared to his predecessors like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. K. A. Busia, Dr. Hilla Limann, Mr. John Kufour and Dr. JEA MIlls (very immediate past).
Well, Prof Akorsah, since you have surgically diagnosed the country's problem and have concluded well, "“If we continue like this and nothing changes then I bet that we will be more frustrated than we have been for a long time”." WHAT ARE YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS/SOLUTIONS?
Please, let's not say "God Help Ghana." Such DO NOT require any prayers, but require PRAGMATIC solutions similar to what the VC of UCC told the University students and all students in Ghana.

Let us be realistic here folks. If you don't sing their praises they say you oppose them. During Kuffour's era we had these power outages but it was manageable. Kuffour has many projects and programs to show for his stewardship. What has the NDC got to show for the $23 Billion dollars debt they have brought to bear on the ordinary Ghanaian? From the time of Nkrumah to Kuffour, our total national debt was said to be a little close to $10 Billion. four years of NDC reign and we are $33 Billion poor. Where is the money? Where is the proof of your spending in the development of the poor Ghanaian? I remember during Kuffour's time when just outside my Taifa residence i could hear people with gas tankers doing door to door sales and deliveries because people had more than enough. $23 Billion could have built a whole new electric generating plant to serve the whole of West Africa. Fearing they will have to account for that loot, they bribed their way into that foolish, unpatriotic empty head oldman Kwadwo Afari Gyan to rig the elections so they can cover their tracks. Well i have bad news for you. Though it tarries, you will one day give account of your stewardship and that day, oh that blessed day, there will be gnashing of teeth across the political divide.

I certainly agree with professor Arkosah's article. Although currently I do not leave in Ghana. However, anytime I visit I get frustrated how the ordinary people get treated. It seems their life line got sucked out of them to the point of doing whatever it takes to survive and that's not good. Too much corruption is killing the country. As prof. Arkosah said, after 65 years of independence and I may add, Ghana cannot take care of it's people...really! That's very shameful. We cannot progress if we cannot take care of basic survival issues such as sanitation, electricity, clean water for the people and as an agricultural country we should be able to have abundance of food for the people. Why can we overcome these basic survival issues. We've been blessed with several mineral resources unfortunately a few are enjoying the returns while the masses are suffering . Wake up leaders of Mother Ghana and do the right thing....restore Ghana.

What has the professor done in the past to help bring development to this country. What has he done in the cpp to help them win power to build Ghana? Power drunk, and stabotaging others effort is what he is good about. He sho ...
