At 56 Years, we have NOTHING to Show:
1.) A succession of FAILED LEADERSHIPS
2.) A Government without a vision for the country
3.) A Government that does not care about the plight of the people
4.) A citizenry, though largely inter-married, so tribally focused in their thinking
5.) The best intellectuals have drifted out of the country
6.) An opposition party that dwells on pettiness instead of helping to mold the democracy
7.) We still export cocoa and import chocolate
8.) We found oil, yet domestic oil prices keep going up
9.) Gold prices are rising yet we don’t benefit because of unscrupulous arrangements to sell our interest
10.) Corruption at its helm biting at everything and stifling small businesses
11.) Everyone begging for something
12.) A country blessed but clueless as to how to use its resources.

So my friend let's deal with the failures of our country, not follow blindly while crime is being commited against mother Ghana. The country is in debt of 35 billion dollars, but nothing to show for, what a moron country, how are you going to entice foreign investors to invest their hard earn money in a country without the basic of for developement, water, electricity and good road network. The railway system a backbone of every country in terms haulage of goods in bulk to commercial centers has been destroyed, so how can Ghana move forward?. Today is a day of shame to every Ghanaian, fifty six years nothing to show for, but filth, blackouts, no water and poor health care delivery, and as the say goes God help those who help themselves. Ghana has made two fatal mistakes: 1966 and 2000.
Voting for NPP in the 200 elections was like a curse on a people who refuse to learn from their mistake. Ghana's progress was reversed in 1966. Thereafter, when JJ was making steady progress at returning us to good times, we thought things were not going fast enough so we voted in Kufuor and his kleptocratic gang of looters. They spent 8 years looting everything in their sight: government lands and buildings, ghana Airways, Ga lands, government cash etc
Worst of all, Kufuor introduced tribalism and now it is raging out of control. Nkrumah and JJ rendered tribalism redundant - all you needed was to be Ghanaian.

Nkrumah did well and I believe there is no dispute about that but on the other hand, most of the problems started with him. Why? This is my point. As a young nation, there is the need to lay down a "solid foundation" that cannot be replaced {if possible} such enacting statutes that will fight corruption in all sectors of the economy.
Nkrumah's should have used the money left over by our colonial master, to develop Ghana at the envy of our neighbors but he chose the other way by setting us alliances ect thinking that he can help free all African nations from the Europeans. Before he was overthrown, Ghana was knee deep in debt and what did he do with all the money?

What success is there to celebrate at 56 when junior countries like Singapore, Korea, Malaysia and co had far-far gone ahead of us in-terms of social developments, economic power, infrastructure, selfless purposeful governance, education, agriculture, better roads, enviable clinical facilities and medications when Ghana pathetically has become like a ghost nation where nothing including electricity and ordinary drinking water is still a problem not to talk about the huge youth unemployment and education?
May be it's good for you, Ayariga, thinking of where you have come from to where you are today as an individual but Ghana we knew is dead and gone.
The great man Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah and our patriotic ancestors like the Yaa Asantewahs, who laid down their lives with their blood for our freedom will be spinning in their grave.
An African lady who had always wanted to visit Ghana with full hope to meet a demonstrative well organized African city, Accra had the shock and disbelieve of her life when she had the opportunity to visit Ghana only to see us sleeping in darkness and without water and driving on horrible death trap roads.

What is to be proud off? There's nothing to be proud off, when countries who at indepedence, we had a much higher GDP like the Malaysias are all way ahead of us, surely, we cannot be very proud of where we are, and more so, when the nation is very much retrogressing under this incompetent and inept gov't. Over the years military interventions have drawn us back us a country, until we decided to adopt democratic governance, which all over the world, have created successful nations where leadership was accountable and transparent. Can the same be said of Ghana? Let's stop the window dressing and hit very hard at the rot in the system, spearhheaded by our so called politicians whose only objective in gov't is to steal and enrich themselves at the expense of the masses, for which we are reaping the results today, with lack of basic amenities like water, electricity, LPG, bad roads, low quality of education, deteoriating health conditions, dwindling manufacturing and industrialization, and the list is endless. There can be no progress to be proud off, with cosmetic window dressing of the issues.

Kwabena, thanks for your sensible comments which are very factual. However i want to let you know that Ghana has moved a long way forward since independence. The British left Gold Coast a country with no good roads, few schools, almost no teacher training colleges, one univesity college,no vocational schoo;absolutely nothing to ensure an economic take-off.What has undermined our progress most is political instability brought about by the coup of 1966 and the complete takeover of the nation by the IMF and the World Bank and their structural adjustment policies which increased the debt-load of the nation and the poverty of ghanaians.Let us hope western 'democracy'now practised in Ghana will bring the much needed economic development and a drastic reduction in poverty even though i have my doubts that it is the answer to Ghana's economic problems.

A husband and wife were having a fine dining experience at their exclusive country club when this stunning young woman comes over to their table, gives the husband a big kiss, says she'll see him later and walks away.
His wife glares at him and says, "Who was that?"
"Oh," replies the husband, "she's my mistress."
"Well that's the last straw," says the wife. "I've had enough, I want a divorce. I am going to hire the most aggressive, meanest divorce lawyer I can find and make your life miserable."
"I can understand that," replies her husband, "but remember, if we get a divorce it will mean no more wintering in Key West, or the Caribbean, no more summers in Tuscany, no more Cadillac STS in the garage, and no more country club, and we'll have to sell the 26-room house and move to two smaller homes, but the decision is yours."
Just then, a mutual friend enters the restaurant with a gorgeous young woman on his arm.
"Who's that with Jim?" asks the wife.
"That's his mistress," says her husband.
She replies, "Ours is prettier."
All the English speaking Nations have gone into wars but the Colonial masters will look at Ghana and say our mistress is prettier.
Long live Ghana.

I am proud of my country and desperately looking to see us move into a middle income status. What saddens me is the level of corruption that has become a national canker. Nothing in Ghana can be achieved without doing a backhand to some official. Even worst still the bible has been taken advantage of and being used to take deceive other Ghanaians, with a record number of false prophets and pastors per capital in the world. It is sad and heart breaking. Nobody thinks about the well being of his or her neighbour and it is all about what we can make out of each other. Oh that one day we are going to see the need to think more of our neighbours than ourselves.

pepeni its obvious we need to break things down for you and your illiterate cat and dog eaters not forgetting your ashanti retards who sent their king loaded with 500kgs of gold to battle and got drowned. You are incompetent and think you can bullshit us with more lies. the country has collapsed under your watch and is no more. you say civil servants and ndc rouges chop over 60% of the income , so lets do the elementary school maths , half a million wages of an average of 500$ if you include all the perks and benifits times 12 months amounts to 3 billion dollars. you say there is a some 3 billion chinese money somewhere so the whole nation should see this as some kind of solution. in reality the country needs a hundred times more worth of job creating investments so with taxes you can service these wages otherwise is only a matter of time when total chaos takes over. 300 billion will give a profit of around 30 billion a year so at a 10% tax you may just cover these poor ass wages . but what have you done , your corrupt system has frustrated all investments and attempts other than this chinese craziness as if they dont pay you they can not pass , who really needs who? few people on this forum remember that delegation after delegation have come include john kerry secretary of state of obama but were all thrown out because jj didnt get his cut. you are just wasting our time so just resign and go away. you dont have any solutions so if you dont go willingly force will be applied you idiot. we have people mainly fantis achieving global success but at home they are frustrated and denied the opportunity to perform or even killed like you did to mills, soon you will hear the clarion call and the sharpened knives and stones will be ready , long live the Republic of Akan.
