The title Ambassador is for diplomats who represent their countries in another country and for those who represent international organisations in another country, including representatives of the Vatican. When such people are no longer representing their country or an international organisation, they are no longer referred to as Ambassador. This applies to both political appointees and career diplomats. In some cases, especially for a few who served as Ambassador for a very long time, they are referred to as Ambassador as a mark of respect and the fact that most of their working life had been spent representing their country or an international organisation. For this reason Mr Smith who served as Ambassador for a very short time cannot and should not be referred to as Ambassador. He does not deserved it. If he spent public funds to ask people to call him Ambassador, that was abuse of office and waste of scarce public resources.

Again, Honourable is reserved for elected officers but mostly members of national Parliament. Here in the UK, the title got extended to Secretaries of State (ministers) by default as ministers were expected to be members of the either the lower or upper chambers of Parliament. Local Councillors and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are not referred as to Honourables.

However, in Ghana every damn fool is called Honourable, including even the Dishonourables. Since Mr Smith is not an elected member of Parliament, a minister, or elected Assembly Member, he could not be called Honourable and should not be referred as such but simply Mr. Nothing more, nothing less.

It is the fault of Ghanaians to allow these empty barrels to take us for granted. The people who have exercised parliamentary systems for countless ages do not use the word 'honourable' outside the confines of parliament. Now ignorant people, even mosquitoes, want to be called 'honourables'. I move that Ghanaians stop this cancer for our own good. Now the word 'honourable' has lost its meaning completely, and we must dishonour all these useless fools. I will never dishonour myself by refering to the thief representing my ward on the local council 'honourable' because that is not what the title is for.

The interviewer comes from a well-known traditional area of this country,where for a period of more than a decade,the people of his area have been unable to find a fitting replacement for their late Chief. All Ghanaians are obsessed with is titles and no productivity.

For example every Ghanaian wants to be called a "doctor" when by convention only PhD holders lecturing in the University are titled 'Doctors'. Every idiot in any political assembly wants to be called 'honourable' and people are using these titles to dupe or hoodwinked the uninitiated. Its about we have a national body to streamline the title chaos in Ghana before it become meaningless. eg Anyone who publicly use the title 'doctor' must be investigated whether he or she holds a PhD from a proper university especially the quack and criminal pastors, seers and prophets etc etc.

I believe the Ambassador appointed by President J.A. Kufuor to the same village European country of Czeck Republic continues to address herself as "AMBASSADOR"..... whatever her name is.

These people are not career diplomats but merely political appointees. Yet they cry and huff and puff for people to address them as "AMBASSADORS' after the expiration of their duties.
What do they gain from such stupid titles?

People like Dr.Joe Sekou Abbey, Odoi Sykes, Alan Kyeremateng, Isaac Osei to name a few have all served as either High Commissioners or Ambassadors. Yet they do not insist on people calling them Ambassadors.

It is only those people that serve as Ghanaian Ambassadors in the "Bush" Village-like Eastern European country of Czeck Republic that will do anything to continue to want people to address them as AMBASSADORS.
