Those of us who use that road know what level of development is going on there. Who do you seek to deceive with your tribally-oriented article, John Yawose? Commuters know the work being done on the Suhum stretch and the relief created by the construction of the Nsawam and Nkawkaw bypasses by the Mills/Mahama administration. For some strange reason you have chosen to put out a blatant lie. I don't know what purpose you think that would serve you and others like you. John Yawose your comments about the former Minister of Roads Mr Joe Gidisu miscondut for abandoning the construction of the Accra Kumasi road but constructed the Easten corridor with less traffic of 50 cars a day whiles the Accra Kumasi road takes 16000 cars a day . However John I want to remind you that the eastern transit to Nkwanta from Accra is just as busy as the one from Accra-Kumasi all the way to the northern Region and so for you to say the road takes only 50 cars whiles the Accra Kumasi road takes 16000 cars a day is not true for you got to understand that, the old eastern corridor road is the shortest to Accra through Hohoe and so a lot of drivers still prefer the Eastern corridor road to the Kumasi -Accra Road for, it is fair to say that, the Present President Mahamas minister of Roads should do better in constructing both the Eastern and the Centaral corridor Roads because they are all important to all the drivers in Ghana. I have traveled on both corners of roads in Ashanti Region all the way to the north through Ejura -Atebubu and also traveled from Accra- Hohoe-Krachi all the way to the north from Nkanta when I visit Ghana from the USA and so please dont mislead people who dont know the geographical areas of those places you are talking about. Roads in the volta Region are equaly bad and lets stop inciting hatred about who did what and who didnt but rather write your suggestions directly if you can to the new Minister of roads to do a better job because I realy agree with you 100% that Mr Joe Gidisu the ex minister didnt do his job at all for a whole four years he was in the office and so Iam very happy he is voted out of that position.

Thanks for shedding some light on this vexed issue. That Yawose can only see the devt of roads in Ghana in tribalistic terms is symptomatic of the way many Asantes in the NPP think. Luckily, with few exceptions, those in the NDC and the Nkrumaist fold don't think like that.
Much of the Eastern Corridor Way, btw, is not going through Ewe territory in the VR. That area of the VR is indeed a food basket of Ghana but the road access is unbelievably treacherous! In many places, the stretches are just mud paths, as shown in the recent Awuni video about the sick man who was taken to Korle Bu and they had to pay a bribe to get a stretcher! The road will open up that area and areas in the Northern Region adjacent to it which are also major food producing areas but have remained grossly underdeveloped.
Also, as Dickson pointed out, being shorter to Accra, drivers prefer to use it, and it is obvious, it'd take pressure off the Accra-Kuamsi road, to the relief of many who absolutely need to use that road. With the planned building of a harbour in Keta, the Eastern Corridor road is urgently needed to carry goods to northern Ghana and Burkina Faso as well. It must be constructed before the harbour!
The fact is that the Accra Kumasi road seems to be under eternal reconstruction! There was so much noise made about Rawlings constructing that road, and so much money gone in I was surprised to read Kufuor starting all over again. I travelled on that road in 1993 and it was pretty good, except that it was narrow. I also travelled from Cape Coast through Fante Kumasi to Kumasi and it was horrendous, as a section was under reconstruction and the dust bath we had was just terrible! The practice of scrapping the asphalt off long stretches of roads meant for reconstruction for a long time is so bad! It could be done in short stretches and quickly tarred within a few days and then take on another stretch. In Norway, such jobs are practically done over night. You wake up and notice that the road in front of your house has been scraped. Of course, the foundations are so thick that what is exposed could pass for a first class road in Ghana! You go to bed and wake up the next day and you discover that the road has been resurfaced! No doubt Norway has been leading the world as the best country to live in for years now! Hardly 6 million people but the few adults in charge have more sense and acumen than the whole of us Africans put together! It is quality, not quantity, my friends!
Instead of these Asantes indulging in tribalistic trash like this, and when they are answered back, one if accused of showing inferiority complex towards Asantes, let us find ways to develop the whole of Ghana and beyond, as the independence and econ. devt of Ghana CANNOT be disassociated from the devt of the whole sub-region! So, the devt of roads in any part of Ghana cannot be separated from devt of the whole of Ghana! Perhaps, if Yawose knows that the Eastern Corridor road will be passing through and opening up the much deprived Akan areas of the VR, people who have started swearing allegiance to the Asantehene again against the terms of the peace agreement after the Sagrenti War, he wouldn't begrudge the building of that road! After all, he thinks in terms of what is good for Asantes only! I am so tired of their crap!
Hmm! It is so clear to me now why their ancestors were so bloodily mindedly self-centred and back stabbers! If you go slave hunting and plundering with them, not only would they cheat you of what was promised of the booty, but you'd be lucky if yourself did not end up as a booty! You blokes should be ready with the gold dusts when the people of Tokon and Wusuta come for their promised reward and reparations. Ignorant idiots and morons who don't know even their true abominable history!
I am an Anlo and I can promise you that this time around, no Anlos would be helping you in your attacks on the people of the VR, even though we have some charlatans and diabolical, greedy bastards supporting the impostor Agboba as Awoamefia of Anlo! You are on your own, the Gonjas and Dagbons obviously under attack by your ilks too! The Gas left much earlier and were behind the muskets facing you at Akatamanso. The Akwamus decamped at Akatamanso. The Brongs got their independence restored to them by Nkrumah. It is time to find those stout sandals Krachie Dente advised your ancestors to make for the escape from the battlefield, because a new Warlord is coming after you!

Tweah! You don't even prick my toe. My picture is on the Internet. Search for it and compare yourself and your kinsmen to me and see who comes out looking better and cleaner!
And I pray, why should I have inferiority complex? Against who or what? Asantes? Bah! Are they all handsomer, more intelligent, richer, live in better circumstances, have better education, dress better, etc., etc., than me? What have they got I haven't and I shld envy? No Ewe ever complained once on Ghanaweb or elsewhere about Asantes being superior to them in anything?
As an Anlo, I ashamed to say that the Asantes became allies of the Anlos thru Anlo's association with the Akwamus, friends to Osei Tutu and allies of the Asantes who contributed so much to the rise of Asante. There is no record of Asantes conquering and enslaving us. Rather, there is a Black Hole in Asante history covered by an afisem taboo, ntamu, which needs to be uncovered in order to take off that smug and misplaced jingoist feeling you ignorant idiots are ensconced in, which you pass off as superiority. Only one person destroyed your marauding Asante army! So what makes Asantes superior to me?
Who are the people always complaining about others getting posts and what not? Even astute Asante businessmen trust Ewes more to work for them than their own kinsmen, having tales of woes to recount. Yes, handicapped Ewes and Northerners do all kinds of legitimate jobs to earn a living and look after their families and educate their kids, even though I feel Northerners can do a lot, lot better in the arena of educating their kids considering the advt. they have thanks to Nkrumah's free education policy from 1952. You Asantes don't feed them and pay for anyone's children's upkeep! And what does handicapped Asantes do? Your girls disgraced Ghana forever by becoming prostitutes in the tens of 1000s all over W. Africa, esp, in Togo, Nigeria and Ivory Coast and finally landing in Europe with their bottom power! The men and boys, the least said abt them the better - hustlers and pimps all over the world! Disgrace to we Ghanaians! To be mistaken for Asante is to feel like insulted! Nothing to be proud of!

A lot of the cars on the Accra Kumasi road are not only to Kumasi or from Kumasi. There are many bound to the north, upper east and to Burkina Faso and Mali, perhaps Niger. Interestingly, in mathematics, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line drawn between the two points , hence if you draw a line between Accra to the North, you will find a straighter line than drawing a line to the north through Kumasi. The writer of the article just happens to be a senseless idiot full of voodoo ism to call others same. Another senseless person, possibly not an Ashanti . In any case who cares, we need to develop every road in the country. Anyone who has any sense of the economic geography of Ghana should know that the deevelopment of roads in the Eastern Corridor is just as important economically to the country as either the central or western corridors.
There are people who for lack of knowledge of other parts of Ghana think that only Southern Ghana contibutes to Ghana's economy in real terms. But wait, if you eat kenkey, yams, beans, groundnuts, rice, sorghom and millet do you ever ask yourself where the farms are and how those products get to Kumasi, Accra and other parts of Southern Ghana? We all know that all these crops I have listed are produced elsewhere outside Southern Ghana, so which areas in Ghana are these crops produced?
You see the Northern parts of Volta Region, all of Northern Region and Brong-Ahafo are responsible for the production of over 70% the food crops that I listed above. The road distance from the eastern parts of Northern Region like Gushiegu, Yendi, Bimbilla, Wulensi and Kpandai where most of the food crops and yam farmers are is much shorter to Accra and other coastal areas of Ghana when you travel through the eastern corridor than through the central corridor. The only reason why the Eastern Corridor has less traffic compared to the central or western is the very bad nature of roads in the eastern corridor due to neglect for decades.
I have no favour for NPP or NDC politics but I care about Ghana's development. In that sense I think putting our national resources into all parts of the country helps every region to maximize the potential for economic growth. The eastern corridor has been neglected for decades, I think it is time to turn our attention to it's development so that all of Ghana can benefit from it.

John Yawose, I'm sorry but you are freak! Who told you all the 16000 vehicles coming down the Kumasi-Accra road couldn't be more pleased with an Eastern Corridor highway? See, all the traffic from Bawku, Yendi, Bimbilla, Salaga, won't need to travel westwards to link up with the Bolga-Tamale-Kumasi highway. They will simply come down southwards through Bimbilla and Damanko, and arrive in Accra in less time, than going the longer route through Kumasi. Furthermore, it will reduce congestion on the Kumasi highway, and bring less accidents and loss of life and goods. The Eastern Corridor is a monumental advantage to Ghana ...doesn't matter how you try to skew it, John.
