  If you steal 2 bags of cement, you may get a jail time in less than a month. If a politician who is supe-educated and knows right from wrong steals millions, he stays on post. Untouchable!!

  I think our magistrates are either
  over-sentencing and our judges under-sentencing.

  This is most unfair. He probably did not know anybody who 'could see the Judge in chambers on his behalf' What an UNJUST SOCIETY.
  
  Yes, Such a harsh sentence may have been imposed to deter others.
  
  And what are we doing to deter Corruption? The answer has been the same since 'the time of Adam',NOTHING.

  This poor guy could not afford to pay bribes. The police did find Concrete evidence but the judge is biased

  If there were a lot of employment opportunities all these petty theft will not happen.The govt should also create an unemployment fund for people who have lost their job to cash into it. This poor guy is going to sit in priso ...

  What has Police cap got to do with this.
  If that is the case, then it must be theft of gov't property, other than that, "police style" cap should have nothing to do with this case.

  These Judges & Magistrates are a bunch of &%*$#@. ...this crime deserves probation, community sentence and a suspended jail term. ...at worst 6 months. Now Gov't is going to feed this guy for 24 months, and in the meantime he will do no productive work.
