Managing a national economy takes more than "special forces". Maybe, Tekpernomics will save Ghana. Propaganda does not build an economy.

That said, I am afraid this wonderful treatise will not be 'patronised' by Ghanaweb discuzzants--some of them do not have the needed reflective thinking skills to decipher the pith of your elucidations. Well done anyway; my final question is do we need 'leadership or management in Ghana?

Easy to criticize but nowhere was an attempt made to offer an alternative to the unsustainable path of the Mahama economy.
Following the trend of your argument, GDP, level of budget deficit, corporate taxes, oil hedging policy, the price of petroleum products, etc. your counterproposal argument
would have turned out to be equally unsustainable.
Mainly because the learned Doctor continued to use the Neo-Classical economic model of analyzing economic problem through the GDP, completely overlooking external costs

Even if one were to agree with Bawumia that the national economy is in a tailspin, where are his prescriptions to put the economy back on the right track? The NDC will be more than willing to absorb some of his proposals....criticizing is all good and dandy, but it will be nice to accompany that with some solutions. Trotting out numbers and statistics and analyzing a national economy without as much as casting your net wide afield just does not make a whole lot of economy sense....Ghana's economy performance is invariably affected by external factors, economic interconnectivity is now the norm, and what ails our economy may not necessarily be the incompetence of our bureaucrats...it may be due conditions beyond our national borders.....do you think of that?

Wow Bawumia, so you were aware of the rising budget deficit and its adverse impact on macro economic stability of the country, and yet you and your boss were championing one of the most rediculous social/welfare policies (free education) that even social democrats were scared off. The question is, did you know all these challenges before december elections or not. If you did, then you were intellectually dishonest to Ghanaians. If you didnt, then i am grateful that Ghanaians got the vote right by not voting people like who didnt know what was going on, yet were promising everything under the sun. I am glad that you are getting out of this social/welfare fantasy world to the real world where controlling basic economic fundamentals are key to economic growth and development.

First of all I am not sure if Bawumia's figures are correct if the 'arithmetic cockup'with the electoral figures are anything to go by. Any how, this analysis is no different from his rather atrocious presentation at the Danquah-Busia Memorial lecture of 2011.
That said, Bawumia seems to praise the Kuffuor and Rawlings governments on 'fiscal discipline and financial prudence' but has been drumming this notion of 'economic incompetence' on the Mills-Mahama government. What he fails completely to tell Ghanaians is WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFICIT. What I want to know for instance is whether there have been any investments and in particular infrastructure projects which in themselves become assets for government.
If Ghana is now an oil producing and exporting country, is Bawumia suggesting that the government has somehow squandered oil revenue? What deals did the Kuffuor government make before leaving office using projected or anticipated oil revenue in lieu of payment or as loan guarantees for instance on behalf of the Government of Ghana?
We know that Ghana has recently made significant progress in achieving some of the Millennium Development Goals. Did the government invest some of our revenue in e.g. alleviating poverty, schools and education, health and other sectors thus contributing to what to his mind and from his analysis appear to be "mind boggling" excess expenditure over income?
The trouble with Bawumia is that he has never been able to articulate his views in a sound intellectual and coherent way. It is always wishy-washy and he leaves the reader wondering exactly what he is trying to get across. Sadly, in economic analysis, when you choose to be selective with your figures, you always end up like this. It reminds me of the laughable stance he and his fellow petitioners initially took (until ordered by the SC), saying they would only present their evidence at the supreme court and not share it with the respondents. It would have been funny had it not had anything to do with serious government business and our very national developmental agenda.

Some commentators here think they know better. Lets be honest and not just oppose what we don't understand just because it is against the NDC. You are just like the NDC.
