I don't get it why the parliamentarians are getting all the freebies,Petrol,Electricty,Water just to mention the few. This is not done in North America and some countries that we go beg for money. We did not force them to take the job as president/parliamentarian,besides they are just ordinary civil servants of the state as people working in the ministries and offices.

The Road Transport Associations are doing the same as the railway workers did during the time Nkrumah's government. The Railway Workers Union created havoc, at the time, through wild strikes without caring about their impact on the economy. Now, increasing the charges higher in percentage terms immediately the government withdrew the subsidy on petroleum seems to me, politically motivated and encouraged by the opposition, NPP, just as the railways workers' strikes were engineered by the opposition, United Party(UP), at the time. The reason behind their decision to increase the charges more than the percentage removed from the amount of the subsidy by the government is very much political rather than economic. After all, others are tightening their belts because of the country's precarious position; why can't the transport operators do the same? The Road Transport Operators are being insensitive and unhelpful to the government's quest to find money to invest in physical development to create jobs for the many people who are unemployed and languishing on our streets.

The railway workers exerted too much power so much so that when Nkrumah's government was overthrown the subsequent governments never bothered to fund the maintenance of the railways. Presently the railway is 'dead' along with the power of its workers. The road transport operators seem to be taking the same route to fall into oblivion. The government just has to increase its public transport fleet and operate it without subsidies yet, affordable to save the country from being held hostage from private transport operators.

Our prices in the West are currently at 2.5 cedi per liter. A one way city bus fare is around 5 cedi. We don't subsidize petrol prices at all.
Petrol is even higher in some European countries.

Safa have suspended their president and four other top officials in the wake of a report into a pre-World Cup match-fixing scandal.

Safa president Kirsten Nematandani and four staff members, including the organisation’s newly promoted chief executive officer Dennis Mumble, have been suspended from duty following the fixing of the results of four warm-up matches that South Africa played in preparation for the 2010 World Cup.

A Fifa investigation into the activity of convicted Singapore match fixer Wilson Perumal Raj and his Football 4U organisation fingered the five South African officials, a press briefing was told.

The results of matches against Thailand, Bulgaria, Colombia and Guatemala in the weeks leading up the 2010 World Cup were found to have been pre-arranged to benefit an Asian betting syndicate.

Safa has apologised to Fifa, and undertaken urgent and serious action to deal with the matter.

Safa said a commission of enquiry will be set up “as a matter of urgency”, and Nematandani will appear before the commission to explain his role in the matter.

“Having considered the implications of this for Safa, the [Safa emergency] committee asked the president to take a voluntary leave of absence from his position.”

Vice-president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana has been asked to act as president in the interim.

Additionally, all members of staff mentioned in the report who will need to give evidence at the commission and are likewise put on special administrative leave.

The members of staff so affected are Mumble, Lindile ‘Ace’ Kika, Adeel Carelse and Barney Kujane.

Former CEO Lesley Sedibe and the former head of referees Steve Goddard will also be asked to give evidence and cooperate with the enquiry.

Pinky Lehoko has been appointed acting CEO in the interim.

Nonkonyana said: “This is a difficult situation for the association, and for those who have been named in the report.

“We hope that there will be no speculation about their presumed guilt or otherwise. We need to allow the investigation to take place speedily and fairly, so those that are innocent can be separated from those who are not.”

Allowances Of Ghanaian Athletes At ECOWAS Games Yet To Be Paid

Seven months after the ECOWAS Games, athletes who represented Ghana are yet to receive allowances and per diem due them.

Team Ghana emerged overall winners at the end of the competition, bagging 17 gold medals, 11 silver and nine bronze medals.

Despite the image-enhancing performance they put up at the Games, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has failed to pay their per diem and bonuses for the medals they won and have called on the authorities responsible to pay them.

Owing to the pressure from athletes, Louis Abeka, general captain of the national handball team told the Times Sports last week that complaint to get officials at the National Sports Authority (NSA) to settle their financial obligation have fell on deaf ears and rather soliciting threats of being sanctioned from their work places.

With a sizeable number of the contingent coming from the security services, a number of them have been gagged on making the matter public, a visibly disturbed Abeka said.

“We have tried several times to get Mr Erasmus Adorkor, the Chief Sports Development Officer (CSDO) at the NSA on the issue but to my surprise, he rather threatened to report us to our superiors in the Service.”

According to Abeka, the President of the Ghana Handball Association (GHA), Mr. Kenneth Dzirassah and Mr. Adorkor promised an additional GH¢4000 package for gold, GH¢3000 for silver and GH¢2000 for bronze.

Abeka revealed that plans to demonstrate against the officials responsible for the non-payment of their allowances was shelved because of the fear that sanctions will be handed out to them.

When contacted, Mr. Adorkor denied threatening Abeka or any group of athletes but rather urged them to petition appropriate quarters since he was not in any position to address the issue.

Mr. Adorkor denied making any promise of a financial reward to any team before, during and after the ECOWAS Games.

“I am not in any position to promise such an amount of money to anyone. Even with that authority such information would rather be relayed to the coaches and not the players,” he stressed.

Mr. Adorkor said his interaction in the course of the Games has been with coaches and not players and confirmed that the MOYS is yet to release funds for the payment of their bonuses and other allowances accrued.

The GHA president, Mr. Dzirassah also denied promising the handball team the said because he was not in any position to do so, saying, ‘monies to pay them will come from government and not an individual.’

The people we put at the helm of affairs are those who stab us at the back. BOST officials are all involved. Look at Akosombo and the tankers constantly carrying fuel up and down. Why? We have a pipeline which is not being used. Why? If the president is truely sincere about fighting corruption, then let him deal with this BOST issue. There is no way that any problem in the pipe can't be fixed. Mr President tackle this issue head on.
