THE PROBLEM IS MANAGEMENT. THE HANDLING, ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURES ARE TOO MUCH BUREUCRATICAL AND SHOULD BE IMPROVED. TAKE FOR INSTANCE YOU IMPORT A 20FOOTER CONTAINER. DUE TO THE BUREUCRACY AND BRIBES PAYING AT THE PORT, IT CAN TAKE YOU THREE DAYS OR EVEN MORE JUST TO CLEAR 1 X 20FT CONTAINER. BUT EVERY HOUR PAST IS A WASTE OF TIME IN OPERATIONS AND MONEY AT THE PORT. THIS IS WHAT SHOULD BE CHECKED AND IMPROVED.
THERE SHOULD BE UPDATED AND COMPUTERIZED COMMUNICATION SYSTEM CONNECTION THROUGHOUT THE WORLD OF MARITIME TRANSPORT. ALSO FORWARDERS AND HANDLERS MUST HAVE MODERN EQUIPMENTS LIKE COMPUTERS CONNECTED WITH CUSTOMS AND ALL THE NECESSARY POINTS BOTH INSIDE THE HARBOUR, THE MINISTRY AND THE OUTSIDE WORLD.
AND FINALL THERE SHOULD BE DAILY TRAINING OF THE PORT USERS.

If corruption at the ports had been checked, the revenue would have been more than $500,000,000. The ports are some of the areas the government has to do a good job of containing corruption. All the past leaders paid lip service to combating corruption. And they are not able to do so because they themselves are corrupt. The ports are some of the worst areas in the country.

I don't believe Ghana needs a third port now. What I believe is modernising our infrastructure e.g. computer-based data and internet usage, reduction of unnecessary bereaucracy, which results in waste of time, stamping out corruption, improving general management and organisational deficiencies and then implementing meaningful extension of the existing ports in Tema and Takoradi. That's what is needed to be done and not build a new port, which will be plagued by the same shortcomings, which are killing Tema and Takoradi.

I have always said we should make maximum use of our Trans Atlantic Trade.History tells us how many ports the Europeans built in the Gold Coast. After Takoradi and Tema we need to build a strategic port to facilitate business especially with Burkina Faso.I have found Nakwa or Moree to be best place because the travelling time to Accra,Kumasi,Takoradi will be relatively easy and cheaper. You need less than 2 hours to reach any of the strong economic cities.Ghana Railways could easily extend their lines to the port creating new jobs and development.
Govt. doesn't need to build the port alone, private companies could invest as well. The logic is that the port could provide another Modern Fishing Port instead of the previous plan for building many small fishing ports and landing sites.I have already designed the port and the railway lines and ready to give details.Thank you.

Fact: Ghana truly deserves a third port. Oil has been found in Niger, Mali and for a long time in Chad. Chad is far away from Ghana, but the economic impact of the oil finds in these countries would set the pace for accelerated development in the sub-region. Mali and Niger cannot have sea ports hence would need our ports. This would require more space and facilities to conduct export-import businesses in a timely manner. Where are the facilities if there is already congestion at the two ports the Country has?Hence a third port is needed

Much of the delay caused at the two main Ghana sea Ports, namely Sekondi/Takoradi and Tema can be attributed to the sloppy, casual laziness of employed staff, inefficient cargo handling systems and of course institutional corruption functionally practised at all levels of cargo handling in the ports. Similar ports or even of less capacity than Tema in other parts of the world have been known to handle twice the capacity of cargo handled daily at Tema and Sekondi/Takoradi inclusive with ease. It's therefore about time workers at GPHA upped their game before they get left behind by accredited world standards of efficient cargo handling. Frankly Ghana does not need a third seaport now - if anything it is rather GPHA that requires radical changes in its cargo handling in the two sea ports.

Western,Central,Greater Accra and Volta regions have the privilege to border the atlantic ocean, and to make the country competitive to her neighbors who might be servicing other emerging oil producing countries like land lock Mali and Niger, a port at the Keta district and another in the central may not be a west of fund at all.

We face the bleak scenario of a rising sea level because of climate change and we should therefore be careful about investing huge some of money building a new port.
Rather, we should build several ports on the Volta Lake, from Ada to Yapei or Tamale Port.
Including Yeji, Kete Karachi, Seneso, Worawora, Adawsu, Ahenkro, Akosombo, Akuse, and Sogakope.
These ports, would not only create a gargatuan multiplier effect throughout the nation, but it would expedite the movement of agricultural products, consumer products,
and people, and lessen the traffic on our roads, and minimise the horrible carnage.
