Director Dr. John Koku Awoonor-Williams has achieved in a very short time what his predecessors never could do bcos he is selfless and not greedy and not lacking ideas like his predecessors....as for the nursing school they have their own issues which is self inflicted bcos awoonor cannot babysit every institution in th upper east region if the concerned leaders are not interested in anything but greed and selfishness.

If Awoonor cannot babysit all the health institutions in the Upper East region, then why is he still the Regional Health Director. It simply means that he has failed as a Director and should resign or be sacked. It is his duty to ensure smooth runing of all Health institution in the region. He is been paid with our taxes for that.

Secondly, the response dwelled so much on casting insinuations rather than tackling the issues raised.
As for Dr. Awonoor- Williams, this is one administrator of a kind. He does not deserve the accusations levelled against him. The accuser is most likely an insider who feels Dr. Awonoor has become an obstacle against the normal 'chop, chop' in most places.
Dr. Awonoor should not be deterred but firm, encouraged to know that he is on the right path. If ever he goes astray, people will be happy to point out politely his mistakes. But so far, he is the best administrator ever in the Health Directorate.
The PRO should be less emotional next time with public relations.

It is not my intention to accuse him falsely or malign him. If regional interest overrides national interest because of his actions, then we need to consider that. How can one deny someone his/her allowance because he/she obeyed national directives. that is completely outrageous. Those os uf in the other regions also pay taxes which might be used to pay the allowances of these health workers. Why can't they come to our regions to work. That is unfair.

I believe this writer is an ignoramus coz most of his so called facts are misplaced. It si not true that NURSES and MIDWIVES stay home without working for abt 8 months; the body that regulates the activities of nurses stipulate that on completion of training one has to pass the LICENSURE exams before he cn practice as a nurse/midwife.THe nurses write the licensure exams n hv to wait for 3 months when the results are released n not 8 months as the writer wants pple to believe. The difference in the academic calender of nurses n other tertiary institutions was considered by the implementers of the policy n so NURSES/MIDWIVES start their national service in January n not September like other personnel. If the UPPER EAST REGIONAL DIRECTORATE think its not right for nurses to take allowances whilst waiting their clearance frm NMC, the honourable thing to do is to inform the ministry of health to scrap n not take an autonomous decision to compel nurses to work during that period AFTERALL ALL NURSES IN OTHER REGIONS ENJOY IT. There will be no scarcity of nurses in the region because the NSS ensures that at least abt 70% of nurses are posted back to their region of training n a few of them to other regions to give it a NATIONAL CHARACTER..... The practise of concealing/defending wrongdoing by pple who are in authority must be frowned upon by all well meaning Ghanaians....SOMETHING IS JUST NOT RIGHT IN THAT REGION. ANY WELL MEANING GHANAIAN WHO WANTS TO KNW THE TRUTH MUST CONTACT 1.THE NURSES AND MIDWIVES COUNCIL-which regulates the practice of nursing/midwifery in Ghana. 2.THE NATIONAL SERVICE SECRETARIAT-which has been mandated to post nurses/midwives after completion. 3.THE MINSTRY OF HEALH....

Given this situation, why did it take the directorate so long to respond officially? Furthermore, why did it allow someone 'unconnected' with the regional directorate to write an unconvincing opinion piece on the matter? If it is indeed true that the directorate has come up with this innovative approach to dealing with what appears to be a sloppy, incompetent system between the NSS and GHS, why is this process not being dealt with at a higher national level and adopted as a solution to the incompetence of the NSS? And why blame the nurses and midwives when it is not their fault that they were not being posted early enough in the first place?
By the way, why is Mathias Aboba, spokesperson for the directorate's English so poor for such an important communication? And why does he personalise it instead of focusing on sending out a very clear, professional and serious official message without the base personal insults included in his article?

I would very much like to know from the Directorate which Health worker stayed home for eight months whiles drawing his/her allowance. This is a palpable falsehood being churned out. I know for a fact that some Health workers, who were trained in other regions, were posted to the Upper East region and have since been at post. It is therefore unfair to stop others who were trained in the region to be posted to other regions. If u wish to resource the region with personnel for efficiency, you make it attractive for them to stay there or be posted there. This tyranny must stop!!

The likes of Mr. Aboba,Hamza and others who think their pay master is being exposed to the world and brazenly jumped onto his defense will surely not hold a single drop of water. The issue here is not about the competence of Dr. Awoornor Williams but his nefarious act on innocent up and coming nurses and mid-wives. You have failed to establish that, those trainees are not undertaking their National Service elsewhere. The fact that, they have their postings outside the Upper-East region does not mean they have absconded duty. The binding and reasonable thing to do as managers was to investigate the claim by the trainees that they are posted out of the region and are indeed engaged elsewhere before embarking on the directive to stop them from accessing their allowance. You see, the fact that someone has not complained or brought a matter to the public does not mean there is no wrong doing. Those trainees whose allowances are embargoed are just like you Aboba, Hamza, Dr. Awoonor and of course my good self who need to survive to offer mother-Ghana a service anywhere in the country whether obligatory or optional.Your incessant attacks on me without addressing the issue goes to confirm the complicity of the directorate and the director in the burglary of these young nurses and mid-wives of their deserved money.I am not a health worker, neither an employee nor an employer but a scavenge patriot like my mentor Anas who seek to expose wrong doings in the society. I leave you and your ilk with these queries to answer.
1. Why has the directorate not establish a false claim of the trainees of doing National Service at their various postings before the action?
2. Indicate to the whole world how they have absconded their duty post for the director to apply the so called law?
3.Didn't the head of the various institutions where the trainees are doing their service write to the director to confirm they have assumed their legitimate postings?
4. Why do the directorate want to retain their trainees when they have received other health personnel from other regions?
Let us not be so much insensitive and claimed piety as though others are evil. How well do you Aboba do your work to help mother-Ghana?I will turn the same dagger on myself should I on any day falter intentionally or inadvertently in the discharge of my duty to the state. Let us all be mindful of what we do and do it well with all the decorum and attention it deserve. The trainees deserve their allowances.

GREEDY LEADERS, THINKING ABOUT THEMSELVES ONLY. IT LOOK TO ME AS IF, UPPER EAST HAS ITS OWN SYSTEM OF ADMINISTRATION DIFFERENT FROM GHS. I URGE MOH/GHS BOSSES TO GET TO THE GROUND AND CLEARLY THEY WILL UNDERSTAND THE FACTS. THAT REGION NEEDS A MAJOR SHAKE UP.
