Yes,one of the unpadonable mistake(or call it political suicide)ever commited by NPP which pride itself as champions of the rule of law, was the denial of the late Aliu Mahama from becoming the presidential candidate of NPP in 2008 elections.
The recent history taught us that,Al Gore was the vice president of the US and became an automatic presidential candidate of the Democrates when president Bill Clinton's two terms had run a full circle in 2000.Tabo Mbeke of South Africa was also a vice president and became automatic presidential candidate when Nelson Mandela decided not to run for the second term owing to health reasons.
Back home in Ghana, the late Attah Mills became the leader of the then ruling party NDC when JJ Rawlings' term was coming to a sunset.Mills went and lost the elections in 2000 but the party kept faith with him till he beame president in 2008.NPP had similar opportunity but blew it when they failed to support the candidature of the late Aliu Mahama.
The 64 million dollar question is,will NPP write the wrongs of their past failures by making Dr Bawumia their next presidential candidate? The answer to this question certainly lies in the womb of time.

One such strategist could be that, when a vice president have interest in the presidency, then the congress should rally around he or her like in the case of Al Gore in USA.
When Aliu Mahama was dumped,he,his tribes men, northerners and indeed the entire muslims in the country felt let down rightly or wrongly. With better forsight and good strategy, this unfortunate episode could have been avoided.

In the case of vice- president Aliu, even his own constituency did not vote for him in the flag-bearership race, so people should stop bringing tribalism into the affairs of NPP.

Am very glad reading your long but very interesting impossible piece of work, well done man.Would it ever be possible for that change to take place? these and other very important questions are what you should be asking yourself.I do not see the NPP as being democratic in these light because since its inception it has always fielded players from AKAN origin which makes it very impossible for one to say they are democratic as a political party. Well, Bawumia himself knows he will face a stiff opposition should he express interest in leading that party. He should go and ask late ALIU to tell him what he went through when he tried. Nana will like to stand again from the look of things or maybe he or they(NPP) will like to bring another AKAN as usual. I see them all as lawyers but not politicians because they see things done in politics as law than politics itself. One must read politics to become a good politician.

Hallo Kwabena , It appears u're prophesying --or -u drawn a deep breath of analysis of the Political Organization of Parties & ultimately weep tears of defeat for Akans bluff to rule hook or crook & that reminds me of -- "all die be die" slogan.Personally admire ur "breaking news analysis & share the concerns as u've the graph of Leader Tribal Footage.I think Politics now coming home & that it's not ordained for a specifics like the Chieftaincy Lineage. To me NPP Party think they are the better Party when it comes to Governance & have to rule.Generations past are not to repeat themselves & that the whole spectrum of Democracy & its parallel Electoral Commission & Ethics of Citizenry Voting require another investigation of reforms.Returning to how trends of the tribal lines of Prez., gather that u've a point here but Is Bawumia the right Candidate !!!.While support for a particular Region candidate can influence this Party Prez.,combination i still doubt Bawumia stands the chance though ur inward dissection a bit revealing. If 'm to sympathize or empathise Bawumia is best suited for Financial / Governor of Bank of Ghana but do not dispute that a ticket for a Northerner is the best suited option for the next elections.I'll even predict NPP's victory should they appoint a Northerner next time around.Kwabena much as Political Cloud of what we witness ,think the Nation needs Honest - Visionary - Discipline Hard working Parliamentarians to bring the Country to the high level. Allowances -- Cars - bribery - Corruption - nepotism & arrogance of one tribe & past glory do not build but divides.Really pity NPP & it's their own fault though NDC is no better -- All hands on deck & accountability to ensuring forward march i think is what's paramount. All of them cry wolf if they are in opposition.Any way Kwabena ur script is really spot on & hope most of Party Lines tribalism ommitted for all Ghanaians.Kwabena - please we need Arab Spring -- Leaders are not working-- they fear to punish others wrong doing -- hey do u think our Politicians make the grade !!!.. Since we learned Politics from Western World - better we screen them before they are allowed to represent constituencies & so the Prez.Canditates.. recently read Wall Street Journal of an MP in Britain & Deputy Party Leader & Secretary of State for Science & Energy taken to Court for Lying on Oath-- ie Speeding & is Motor Offence -- we need to re-examine attitudes in Ghana Politics -- Kwabena i gotta stop here as 'm getting irritated & I'm for Party Politics & indiscipline & dishonesty & disrespect for the ordinary person in the street....

It is not just presenting a non Akan but a real makeover. It has to be by recognition that accross the country there are talents and resources that can be tapped. Further more that the labourers who worked on their fathers cocoa farms, the sanitation men, sherpeds, carpenters and watchmen have their children of age. Also those who worked in the mines bare footed, all these people by the grace of God have children and grand children who are able to contribute in a measurable way to the economy of Ghana. Unless they can shed the egocentric view as would have been demostrated by Ms Owusu NPP will continue to struggle in elections. The fact is the NPP has the resources and talent. But it has to be educated to appreciate other talent and capabilities. People must be confident that they will be judged based on their contribution to the the fortunes of the party and not where they come from.

Political parties and leaders historically tend to squander gains made in earlier periods and the NDC is no different judging from their current performance.

You are a BIG fool for arrogantly displaying your ignorance of Akan kingdoms. Nzema and Bono are kin, both linguistically and historically. Kwame Nkrumah and Kofi Abrifa Busia, for instance, hailed from the same royal house i ...

This is what he is fighting. To fool the people of NPP so he can stand as a presidential candidate for them in the 2016 elections. This man called Akuffo-Addo thinks he is smart, but he is not.
The opposition leader is Sierra Leone used the same dirty tactics 5 years ago to impose himself on the party's ticket to prevent any challenge from within. He lost again last year. The issue is about power, ego and campaign m ...

It is not just presenting a non Akan but a real makeover. It has to be by recognition that accross the country there are talents and resources that can be tapped. Further more that the labourers who worked on their fathers co ...

Thanks for your trenchant response to Kwabena Mensah's incomplete diagnosis of the NPP's problems. You are absolutely right. The NPP's congenital flaws are twin: ethnic chauvinism AND class narcissism. The question is whether ...

the greatestistake Kuffuor made was not throwing his support behind Aliu. This time around, npp must realize that the party is for all Ghanaians. Bawumia must run unchallenged.
check your facts well NZEMA'S are Akans
Belliant article by all standard. Will qualify for PhD in Ghana's Geo-Akan dominated politics. Bravo, man.
These are the articles to read. YOU REALLY EDUCATED AND INFORM, EASILY PROVOKING COMMON SENSE.Bravo.
over my dead body, Bawumia can never be a presidential candidate for npp
My friend, get your facts right. Who told you Nzema are not Akans? Who told you Nkrumah was not an Akan? Again, who told you Arkaah was Nzema? Arkaah was from the Central Region, a true Fante. Do your research well before you ...

Tradition goes on.
It will never happen. Just listen to the insults heaped on northerners in Kumasi right now. People in the NPP are still in their own myopic world of exaggerated self importance
It is sad, very sad isn't it? To be fair, it's not just people in Kumasi who pour scorn on northerners and call them derogatory names. Are these homeland racists (for that's what they are) aware that they do to northerners ex ...

Kwasea, if we are to believe your stupid story, why did Busia make Victor Owusu his Foreign Affairs Minister? It is the likes of you who make Asantes feel superior because you speak as if Asantes have some superficial powers.
NPP IS GLOBALLY RECOGNISED AS A TRIBAL PARTY FOR ASANTES AND AKYEMS.
UNTIL THE NPP SHEDS ITS TRIBAL COLOURS, THEY(NPP) WILL NEVER WIN AN ELECTION IN GHANA.
How many times have elections been conducted in Ghana? If Mills had not died the NDC would never had presented a northerner as candidate and you fools should be smart enough to know it.
I can bet my blood on this article and say that it was either Dr. Bawumia who wrote the article or a close family member. But the fact still remains that we in the NPP will never allow a former slave (Odonko)to be our Preside ...
