The fact is that the Doctors never want other people in the medical profession to earn close to their salaries that they earn. They even want a Doctor's entry point to be higher than a senior Nursing Officer who is even more than twenty years at post. This is most ridiculous and shameful. Just being greedy for nothing.
Even if they earn about GH 10,000, at entry point, they still don't want very Old Nurses coming close.

Do you know that doctores are number one saboteurs in Ghana who steal every second drugs for patients, surgical equipment bought with government money and then go to private hospital to use them? Do you know the number of plasters, gauze, examination and diagnostic materials they steal each day? Do you know that because the Ghanaian doctors are the most incompetent people in Ghana, that is why Korlebu Hosp and Okomfo Anokye Hosp has never operated efficiently up till date. Do you know they are nothing but hooligans inside white coat. Do you know that NHIS has been underperforming because the very Ghanaians doctors conive to fraud the system to divert money into their pockets for NHIS to collapse? In industrial disputes especially involving key essential services such as clinical health services, it is not enough to say that "there is positive progress with negotiations". These matters must be given the utmost and expeditious attention around the clock and be resolved in all fairness and satisfactorily to avoid putting patients' lives at risk.

When will civil servants and politicians ever understand this simple logic?

I seem to recall a similar (and probably the first truly nationwide) doctors' strike in 1991 under the Rawlings government which 'forced Dr Kwesi Botchwey, then Secretary of Finance to hastily return from a donors' conference in Geneva to help address what was an appalling, lengthy and protracted "negotiations" with the GMA lasting over one and a half years! It was only when the doctors proved that they meant what they said that the government woke up to the seriousness of their grievances. It appears to me we are witnessing a similar situation here with the NLC.

Much as one does not advocate industrial action if it is uncalled for, my advice to the NLC is, take these matters seriously and act speedily to resolve them. Don't try to put the doctors or other health workers for that matter in an apparent bad light to the public because such 'blackmail' simply does not work.

It is also important to note that having given their whole life and career to serving the public, doctors are among the most dedicated public servants and if they are not well looked after when our politicians vote themselves GhC50,000 for their accommodation alone, it makes one wonder sometimes where our national priorities really lie. Just as MPs work deep into the night, trust me, doctors can be on call over a 72 to 90 hour periods depending on the particular department and team on duty. Please meet with their representatives and use a transparent, fair and commonsense approach to solving this problem and ensure it does not happen again.

When in 1991 the doctors eventually prevailed, promises were made, this will not be allowed to happen again. Then in the 2000s, we had the new national framework which led to the Single Spine System currently being operated. Unless all sides 'police' the system and ensure that there is fairness in remuneration, such disputes are bound to occur, much to the detriment of innocent patients who become victims!

At the same time, some of their brothers and sisters in the same professional fraternity are making frantic efforts in other countries researching, volunteering immensely in various areas of their expertise and brainstorming various ways to raise funds to help save lives. What do we see in Ghana? Why are Ghanaian doctors working so hard to do the opposite?
I think it is about time they are taught 'NATIONALISM / PATROTISM' throughout the cause of their studies, for majority of them do not love their country the same way they love money.
Yes, Government can have some faults, but should the Doctors go to such an extreme to the point where precious lives; some of whom might save they (striking doctors) themselves or their families one day?
When I hear or read news like this, I begin to question whether Ghanaian doctors under GMA really understand their profession.
You were in the process of negotiating which has not broken but rather taking some time and all you could think about is to withdraw your services; what happened to other ways of solving problems? Are they not ready to even brainstorm? How many medical researches break through can the GMA boast of?
I strongly believe there are other public sectors suffering from these salary issues, but for the love of their motherland; a land that contributed to their education and development at some point in their lives, they chose a more mature and sympathetic way couple with patients that never run out to resolve their genuine grievances to the admiration of the citizenry.
GMA should know and understand that Ghana is a developing country and as such sacrifices ought to be made in various endeavors so as to be among the ones to one day, stand tall and beat their chest to the collective elevation of the country to a level where issues like this would be history.
If all these hasty strike actions is politically motivated, I advise GMA to rescind their decision before they lose public sympathy, for what pleasure do they derive from seeing innocent children, mothers and families of people who directly and indirectly support their (striking doctors) existence die like animals?

Maybe you to take some lessons from the Pope's notice of resignation and do the noble thing to allow more serious and knowledgeable people to manage the affiars of this critical public institution.

It's a shame to the entire medical profession, the rate at which these Doctors have turned their profession into ''Marketing Board'' meanwhile operating with the state aquired properties. It is no secret that the Doctors at the state hospitals are using the wards and beds for their personal business, they charge patients exhobitant fees to have them seen using the goverment hours.They have market themselves at the goverment hospitals and then refer the needy patients to their private clinics.When they charge monies too , no official receipts are given, not to mention taxes on those illegal fees collected. You see during the AFRC days they and their partners in crime, the lawyers made so much noise about the revolution, only to be revelled that they were not paying their share of the taxes that the ordinary civil servant pays regularly. Thanks to the AFRC, Jerry Rawlings and the then Citizen vetting Committee CVC. It has now become a fashion that every year or at every goverments turn of office these greedy professionals take advantage of the lives of the citizens in demanding monies from the state while they go on stealing from the same people through whose taxes they were trained. SHAME unto this Bastards. It is about time the Goverment and the Ministry of Health pay attention to the public outcry concerning how the Doctors have turned the goverment hospital into their private venture. This is no secret, am sure both past and present Ministers, and Deputy ministers of the Health ministry are all aware of this illegal trade going on at the goverment hospitals.
