What has Iran done for us besides putting up "yellow huts"as mosques in every village in the nothern regions and those are nothing short of madegrass. My brother I think you missed the point. What you have cited are mistakes made by individual parties which I agree is wrong. But you look at the wider picture of how the Western Countries have treated us in terms of trade. How do we develop when the trade between us and them is so unfair. Look at our cocoa farmers and see how poor they are. Compare that with Cadbury and other giant chocolate manufacturers. You name every raw material we produce and how much they pay for them and ask yourself if they have our interest at heart. Look at the price of copper products and how much they pay to Zambia for a ton of copper.
Look at African countries debt that we never finish paying and you will see some sense in my point.
Why do you think some people in UK and other Western countries are fighting for fair trade? This is because without fair trade Africa's progress will be affected.
15 years ago USA tried to bully China and Japan because they accused them of importing little from USA. Are we able to say the same thing to them about unfair trade. France continues to interfere with every francophone country in Africa. Yes we have got our independence but are we still free?

There was also a failed attack in Thailand & the foiled attempt to assassinate Saudi Arabia ambassador to the US. There's also threat of its nuclear energy & the UN has imposed sanctions against them. Even Nigeria & South Africa has severed ties with Iran. Mahama apparently, does not have the interest of this nation at heart & the useless MP'S who only cares about being in power, has kept quiet about this Ghana-Iran ties.

Iran has never had anything serious to offer Ghana. The rat-infested Iran Clinic which is mentioned as Iranian investment is an embarrassment. Does it come anywhere close to Lister Clinic which is a private wholly Ghanaian investment? Why does NDC always make the wrong friends and hurt Ghana & Ghanaians in the process.

Iran's only concieval export to Ghana may be techniques of repression of the population and how to rig elections and continue to stay in power. That was the only item for discussion when the so-called special envoy Kojo Tsikata (remember him?) visited Iran.

I know Atta Mills would not have chosen him if he knew him to be that treacherous. Who even knows if his boss,ATTA MILLS, died a natural death. I REGRET SUPPORTING HIM. I never regretted supporting ATTA mills inspite of what people said about him but with John Mahama it's different. A few days into his term and already many are feeling disappointed about his decisions. The worse part of it is that this president unlike Atta Mills is too hot headed and once he decides to do something he doesn't listen to any advice from the citizenry who gave him the power. Iran as a nation is one of the few places in that has not been taken over by the West, one way or another. That explains why the West is so antagonistic when it comes to this nation. Western media propaganda is strong, and it wins a lot of hearts and minds. Those who can discern past the propaganda and who are not too lazy to do some personal research will likely discover the truth behind the hubris -- Iran is a unique nation with its own culture and history and which seeks to preserve its way of life independent of foreign interference. For this reason, it has been labelled 'islamist' and 'terrorist' etc, and many intelligent (as well as most non-intelligent) people have bought into this lie fed by some mainstream news outlets with a heavy bias toward western civilization, culture, way of life.

Remember, the west wants to win the cultural war, and if it could it would turn the entire globe into its image -- sprawling 'Americanism' with McDonalds everywhere, everybody wearing jeans, and western economics, morals (cough, cough) and western style individualism to every nation on this planet. Not all nations want this and some are being defiant. Iran is one such nation.

The situation is made more complex with the actual existence of Islamic fundamentalism (counterpart to Christian fundamentalism found in the American south!) which in many cases is secretly influenced and directed by western intelligence groups.

So open your eyes, my people. All is not always what it seems to be.

As for siding with the west, I suppose that is your preference. The world is changing, so much so that no one power at the present time really has overall influence. Doing business with other countries not belonging to the western sphere of influence can be just as advantageous, if not more so, than doing business with the west, constrained by its Bretton Woods guidelines and conditions placed on trade and aid. That is my position.

Nothing stops a nation such as Ghana from doing business with both the West and nations such as Iran. That would be my competing version of real politik. However, views incongruent with reality should be pointed out where they exist.

I have seldom complained about the course of Ghanian government, except for the slack pace of economic development, which is non-partisan in nature. But I find this course irrational and distressing. What is the point of an alliance with Iran or even Turkey? What do either have to offer? Turkey has expertise only in weaponry that Ghana doesn't need, and Iran has a worse developed economy than S Africa.

This government (apparently) is making alliances on the basis of the religious prejudices of its leading members, and not on a real economic (or even national security) basis.

Will we soon see Ghana enrolled in the Organization of Islamic

Why Iran? Yes the West are hypocritical in its dealings with Africa and LDCs but is Iran the alternative? Ties with Iran will scathe us directly or indirectly in the International System.

The West has its conditions but i have served around the world and have observed that Iranian efforts are equally directed at helping Islamic regions and enforcing Islamism.
