No one doubts the competence of DR, Awoonor Williams but the criminal intent to siphon off the allowances of the trainees. In any case, have the trainees undertook their national service?if yes, then they are legitimately supposed to receive their service allowance and not to diabolically put an embargo on the cash in pretense of returning the funds to government at later date. The world is watching the Bolga health directorate

Good point Hamza and well said. People just go to every length to speculate falsehood and destroy people. But the truth will always prevail. As for "Ewuraba" (you know your self and your real identity though), why don't you come out of your closest and confront the directorate if you have a case instead of hidding and speculating. This is how people like you want to develop Ghana. God save us

Hamza, frankly your excuse will not wash. So it is true that these graduate nurses and midwives have been subjected to this diabolical 'servitude'. Surely knowing that the health institutions have an academic and graduation programme different from the rest of the HE institutions' programmes, all that is needed is for the national service secretariat, working with the GHS to develop a NS posting system to capture that particular group? If these graduates were having to wait for 8 months to be posted, surely that is a mark of gross incompetence on the part of both the NSS and the GHS rather than the students?
It is unfair and disingenuous of you to try to create the impression that these graduates we "sitting idly at home and drawing salaries". Can you Hamza please tell us how these poor chaps got onto the payroll in the first place when they hadn't signed up with any hospital or been transferred onto the health service payroll system? If I have got it wrong, I will duly apologise but I simply don't believe your version of arguments on this matter and that is the trouble with Ghana. That when something wrong goes on, somehow some self-appointed spokesperson comes out to 'defend' the indefensible and the actual people who should come out and offer a proper explanation hide behind the mirrors.
I do not doubt that the said Dr Awoonor-Williams may be a fine regional director as you assert, and that he may have achieved a lot in his time and is a fine doctor. I commend him for that. But if the person is taking wrong decisions that are affecting the very workforce he is supposed to be leading, do you realise the potential impact of that on morale and ultimately patient services, safety and satisfaction? Why can't the grievances of the nurses be listened to properly by cool heads and a sensible and amicable solution found for all?
What makes people in authority feel so big that they cannot keep their feet on the ground and come down to the level of their subordinates to try and resolve problems? I can assure you, your position, achievements and stature are greatly dismissed by a snobbish attitude rather than one that shows humility, respect for your juniors and a sense of interest in their well being. That is what true and effective leadership calls for.
If by this 'slave master mentality' and rather insensitive approach of Dr Awoonor-Williams and his team you, Hamza think he is doing such a brilliant job, them you must be mistaken. If this is how people choose to run their ministries, departments and regional directorates, then we are in deep trouble.
My take is simple. The leadership at regional level should take immediate steps to meet with the nurses' leaders to open dialogue and seek a common consensus on how to resolve the impasse. The health team is NOT the doctor directing all the others but rather the doctor WORKING WITH ALL THE OHERS. I find it really hard to understand how you expect to take your staff along with you when you treat them so badly. If Dr Awoonor-Williams will not come down his 'high horse' because he feels too big, then surely someone higher has got to intervene because we are setting a bad example here.
Hamza and his ilk must learn to understand that human resource and the capacity needed to deliver the health agenda has to be treated with respect no matter how 'low down' they may appear on the ladder. By the way, why are doctors threatening to go on strike? Is it not because they feel their demands are not being met and they are "being disrespected"? You better find a better excuse than this one because it simply does not wash with me. Sorry Hamza, your intervention only makes the matter worse in my opinion.

Hamza are you also aware that service personel who gets pregnant during. national service in the upper east are also punished by that directorate by blocking their allowance for them to restart the service in a years time even if you have 4 months to finish the national service. Since you happened quote the law, which part of the constitution prescribe that one? They put embargo on those posted out, they put embargo on those posted in who gets pregnant during the course of the national service in this region headed by "the holy directorate ". Did they specialize in blocking salaries or taking care of people.

Please "Mr friend of the regional director", please be informed that none of those students I know vacated post. It is the same NSS posted those people into where they are after the arbitrary posting by the director that u call innovation. These poor students had to rent rooms at exorbitant fees for that temporary period u are talking of after which they were reported to new areas. At these areas, haven secured accommodation and paid astronomical amount as advance for two years though the national service is for one year, they were being forced to relocate. Do we apply the psychology we learn at school whilst dealing with our junior colleagues? Additionally, the NSS posted people from other regions to upper east. Would they be pleased when such treatment is metered to them? When these students were posted right from school immediately writing their papers , who offered them transportation allowances and temporary accommodation pending their substantive postings ? Do you believe that meagre allowance could take care of all that? What about those who enjoyed without being treated this way; prescribe treatment by your principle for the rest of the regional directors. Check the NSS website and see if all the students are not where they were posted to. Do you pray for that injustice for your daughter ? How would you feel when you fall in the hand of some of these victims who knows you and have taken notice of your poor judgment of the issue. punching your neighbour is like punching tree. those you meet on your way up...

Who at all in MOH/GHS brought this idea of NSS for trainee RGN/RM? They were already doing one year rotation immediately after the results are out and there was no problem! The so-called National Service has brought a whole lot of confusion and chaos. I call it Regional Service because none of them were posted out of the Region, meanwhile it's supposed to be NATIONAL. With that aside, they were supposed to be migrated from trainee allowance to internship allowance, but the directorate is concerned about their welfare, so they are still struggling, only God knows for how long! Mr. Journalist, stop your arm -chair and talk with facts. Regional Health Directorate, please come to their aid,as continue with your good works for the Region.
