The Tongu people suffer from development since colonial days due the political division of the area and absence of vigorous protest of the people of of Tongu.
The aim of the current agitation to divide the North Tongu into threefold divisions, namely, Central Tongu with its District office at Adidome, North Tongu East with its District Office at Battor Dugame and North Tongu West with its District Office at Juapong is to promote just and equitable development of the area and not for the benefit of any political office holder.
That development goal is consistent with the regional development and national development goals.
The area is poor because of the political demarcations. The area lacks proper road construction network and water access plans. In the absence of that all amenities are lacking in the area. Unemployment is endemic.
Siting the District Office at Battor Dugame will guarantee that development projects can begin from the Battor and Mepe areas of the District and can be extended across the River Volta to the other areas of the District.
This has been our agitation for over fifty years ago. Democratic Ghana must wake up.
The problem must be given attention to ensure just and equitable development of the Tongu area.
