Does it mean only Northerners are being appointed to key positions in Ghana? The President must get serious and be fair. We want progress and meritocracy in Ghana. No Kokofu.

Nobody dared cough during Kufuor's eight years of blatant nepotism and cronyism. Now that Mahama is at the helm everybody is complaining, even before appointments are made. Did Kufuor not remark that he cound not find qualified people from the North to place in key positions? So is there any reason why Mahama should not appoint them if he is able to find them? When it comes to education and appointment to high office, it is undeniable that the Northern peoples have been shafted throughout Ghana's history. For that reason, the scales must be balanced from this point forward. Nobody should encourage tribalism, but we need to strive for Regional balance in national matters. As such, the three Regions in the Northern sector of the country must be given their proportionate share of the national pie. After all fair is fair, and what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

This is unprofessional write up against Mr. Andani, a hard young youngman whose short history is an inpiration to many young Africans.
He comes from a great northern family that produced the first mordern medical officer from northern Ghana, a chief director for the Ministry of Agriculture among others. His great grand father once wrote a letter to the Ashantehene (in Arabic) pleading with the Asante King to stop human sacrifices and rather use cows.
All in all, it is left to Mr. Mahama to appoint some one who would put national interest first, Ghana first. God bless Mahama and Ghana.

It is true that to be the BOG one neds to have a firm grisp of economic theory, particularly with regards to fiscal and monetary policies, as well as general macroeconomic issues. Alhassan Andani has never studied economics and does not understand anything about fiscal and monetary policies. He never even took ECON 101 to understand the basic arguments put forward Keynes and Friedman with regards to the role of government in economic activities and fostering economic growth. How can such a person be the Governor of the Bank of Ghana? He can be a director of a commercial Bank, but not Governor of Bank of Ghana. As a governor, you meet international experts in the field, and you need to be articulate with these macroeconomic issues! It is time for African leaders to appoint the right people to occupy positions.

You rather need to check your facts before embarking on such a trip! You neither stated why you believe Andani is qualified to be Governor of Bank of Ghana or why he is even over qualified. As the author rightly stated, the Central Bank is completely different from Commercial Banks. Andani has never studied Economics, he didn't even take ECON 101, how can he explain monetary and fiscal policies. He has absolutely no idea about macroeconomic theory. Being the Governor means interacting with experts from IMF and World Bank, as well as experts from other International Organizations to discuss measures impacting on economic stability and economic growth. These activities require knowledge of Macroeconomic Theory, which Andani is far from having. So how can you just ignorantly argue that he is more than qualified? Once again, heading Stanbic doesn't qualify him to be a Governor of a Central Bank. The requirements for these two positions are completely different.
