When, did the likes of Asiedu Nketia and his connoisseurs in government realize the need to accord Mr Rawlings the respect he deserves as the founder of the NDC party? Why have the regional ministers and even the chiefs in the Volta region suddenly seen the need to intervene and reconcile the NDC, when they were better positioned to have done that in the past or even prevent the conundrum from exacerbating this far? “Lead us not to temptation” is always a wiser prayer in politics than “deliver us from evil”. Professor Atta Mills and the NDC leadership had spurned numerous chances and time offered them to restore peace and harmony in the NDC. The acts and omissions of some party leaders and government officials clearly pointed to a well-orchestrated political agenda to intimidate, humiliate and vilify the former first couple and as well impugn their credibility and relevance in the NDC. They demonized the iconic figure in the party whose individual efforts and instrumentality won President Mills and his “saints” the power that has now clouded their consciousness like a drug and has caused them to rubbish the cardinal principles of conviction, probity and accountability. President Mills and his “boot lickers” obviously misconstrued the insistence of Mr. Rawlings on the need to respect these values on whose back the NDC rode to power.to mean the latter courted sympathy and garnered support for the presidential ambitions of his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings...

EK Sallah, upon dismissal by the Busia Administration sued for a declaration that it was not possible for him to be sacked on account of the 1969 constitution preserving his position as MD of the erstwhile GNTC

The case went to court and the decision was that Busia had wrongfully sacked Sallah. Thus Sallah should be paid his benefits for wrongful dismissal.

EK Sallah, for oyur information, never asked for his job back and the courts never gave him something he did not ask for

Mr Kofi Badu of the Spokesman Newspaper put a spin on the decision and stated Sallah had won his case and so Busia had to re-employ him

Busia came on TV and made it clear that No Court could tell him whom to employ and in this case the Court had not done so

Thus Sallah got his money but Ghana got confusion and Kofi Busia, dead for 40 years, continues to be accused of an offence that never even existed

Apart from this freeing up money for projects like roads it is well settled that the civil service in articular can really frustrate business. All of us have suffered go come at the ministries. A French investor in Ghana says it too 4 years to gain approval for his project as he was bounced from department to department

Kofi Busia also believed that for a nation to prosper, its citizens must keep most of the money they earn and thus cutbacks in spending were vital. The 568 persons sacked were the start of a slash in irrelevant government spending as he sought to prune the bureaucracy and to also make it easier for people to do business

In 1979 Margaret Thatcher embraced the same idea and used this for her successful Thttcherite revolution

In 1983 Jerry Rawlings continued from where Busia left off and he too sought to free up the market by eliminating those who do nothing but frustrate the ability to register companies, get passports, etc

Each individual has different account and event. I quite remember Busia went ahead to cancel Training Colleges allowance which Nkrumah set up to encourage more people to train as Teachers.

Although Busia did not have enough time to govern and to be well assessed , in his short regime I can mention most of his tribes men and cronies who took over Government Businesses to be their private property and they have owned them till now. All the Capital investment some of which were under Nkrumah but were stolen by cronies of Busia to enrich themselves.

Second downsizing is a sad fact of life. However with your redundancy and skills you can do so much for yourself. Maggie Thatcher down-sized the public sector in the UK and the country experienced prosperity. Busia introduced the Business Promotion Act and the small loans scheme thus creating opportunities for all who were out of work to benefit. IK Acheampong came along and shut it down. Ghanaians were happy with this and later when unemployment was at 70% in 1976 they did not know what to do

5. Most of them who accept to work in the north are crooks and thieves who steal monies that are meant for development in the area. THey steal from both government and NGOs - Ironically most of them will not even invest the stolen monies in the north BUT prefer to bring the money down south to spend.
6. In the mist of ALL the above, they confuse the illiterate folks - that problems in the north should be blamed on innocent Southerners.
7. Dr. Nkrumah in his wisdom implemented free secondary education in the north using proceeds from cocoa, gold and other natural resources mostly from the south. Osagyefo did this with the aim that these privileged ones will pay the nation back by at least accepting to contribute to rapid development of the north BUT unfortunately these educated ones have become more Southerners than the Southerners themselves.
8.I think a Northerner becoming president of Ghana 'per-say' is not what will make the place develop - I think the privileged individuals MUST ACCEPT the challenge of contributing by way of accepting posting to the place and invest in housing and job creation. Most of us northern guys are in very good positions even most have been in government since Independence.
9. What happened to SADA? We did not even see northerners in political and other responsible positions showing any commitment - They rather decided to 'blow' or 'chop' the monies in gargantuan proportions.
10. Most of us northerners have been voting for NDC over the years because of Rawlings' initiative of extending grid electricity to the north BUT beyond that I think the NPP has also shown more commitment in other areas of infrastructural development in the north mostly through the MCA. Earlier Acheampong, through his agricultural policies had facilitated the construction of the Tolon irrigation which is being under utilized as at now.
11. We can ALL help to make the northern Ghana an enviable place to stay - the place has a vast land that can be developed to become food basket of the nation.
12. MAKING YOURSELF RICH WITHIN A SHORT TIME THROUGH POLITICS IS NOT WAY FORWARD. WE REALLY NEED A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION TO ADDRESSING THE NORTHERN CHALLENGE - NPP, NDC, CPP, PPP, PNC, NDP, ETC. CAN EQUALLY DO IT - SO I THINK ALL THE TRIBAL SENTIMENTS AND INSULTS MUST STOP.

No judges were sacked; there were 19 privately owned news papers each attacking the colonial goernment and none of them were ever shut down (it was Nkrumah who started this practice in our country) etc etc

The colonial government expanded democracy by increasing the elected African members of the Legislative Council. Nkrumah narrowed democracy by taking away the vote from us

By 1952 Africans (Nkrumah) were running the executive arm of government, had the legislature under their control and the judges were not being sacked for their decisions. There were no political prisoners in jail without charge etc

Thus, gradually, the British government loosened its hold on us while Nkrumah, gradually, turned Ghana into his private propoerty

Just as I consider the commemoration of the 41st anniversary of the overthrow of Dr Busia a distraction, I condemn unreservedly anyone on either side of the political aisle - NDC or NPP who threatens violence of any kind including inciting or encouraging coup d'Etat "if their side does not win the court case".

All proponents and defendants of our hard won democracy MUST CONDEMN such irresponsible people. Ghana's constitution makes such acts of military intervention ILLEGAL and any such attemp will not succeed. However we cannot be complacent.

I also condemn all the name calling, cheap insults and childish ranting and utterances that we hear and read from both ordinary citizens and sadly, party functionaries and leaders as well. What we need is peace, harmony and national unity and civil dialogue. If we want to see the result and impact of partisan politics, LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THE UNITED STATES where the country is deadlocked because parties refuse to cooperate.

The good news is that even in the US, today, a new group called "NO LABEL POLITICS" has emerged in the US Senate and Congress made up of people from all political parties to work together for progress in America.

Well, that is the lesson for us. Ghana is in a far better position than that because we relate and work more closely with each other and EXPECT OUR POLITICIANS TO also forge PARTNERSHIPS in parliament and in the general society. Let's all heed the president's call for unity as one nation.

Why did you wait for this long before condemning Kakra Essamuah's idiotic statement that was made even before the petition had been sent to the Supreme Court.

Kakra Essamuah and his NDC are merely bluffing. The Supreme Court will NOT be scared by these stupid threats. If NPP convinces the Supreme Court that there were huge errors in the results, done deliberately or as a result of genuine mistakes that normal human beings can and do make.

Many Ghanaians are waiting eargerly to hear THE JUDGMENT that CAN GO EITHER WAY.

3)Beginning of ethnic strife in Ghana. But for the fact that Ghanaians are peace loving people, the country could have devolved into ethnic paradigm.

Busia undid Pan Africa unity by his Aliens Compliance Order. Many thousands of Ghanaians especially of Nigerian parentage were depoted. Call that act of humanity for the deaths and sufferings they endured. Real Legacy INDEED.

4) When Ghanaians were depoted from Nigeria, we blamed the Nigerian Government. But how can we forget the LEGACY of the depotation order instituted by Prime Minister Busia. Many Ghanaians lost their lives been depoted from Nigeria. That is another legacy of the Busia policies.
