A strong judiciary and an impartial judiciary are interrelated and consequently even an appearance of impartiality predicated on family relationship of a judge and a party with vested interest in a case before said jurist should be a basis for any self respecting jurist to recuse himself from said case. This is consistent with the code of judicial ethics and canons. This is first year law school stuff and should not be the subject of much debate and Tsatsu knows that.

There are several instances of such cases in Ghana. For example, in the Ya-NAA's murder trial, the Republic of Ghana (NDC) objected to the judge who was appointed to try the case. After deliberations, the judge had to excuse himself because of potential conflict of interest that was presented by the NDC (ROG). A second case was the trial of Wreko Brobby. Here again, an objection was made against the judge trying the case, and this had to be changed. This is a common practice in law, so the NDC illiterates accusing NPP and Akuffu Addo should not allow their partisan emotions overcome their senses of reasoning and intellectual thinking. The major question is why the chief Justice Georgina Wood is not among the judges? This is because she excused herself because of potential conflict of interest! Judge Atubuga (?) should have been fair and reasonable to do the same thing, given the potential conflict of interest here, and the extremely high likelihood of him being biased in his decision on the case.

Her relationship is even not as strong as justice Atuguba and his nephew who is serving the president, unless you do not understand what conflict of interest means. NPP is not objecting for the fun of it, they are doing it based on solid reasons.

Conflict of interest arises if there is a likelihood of partial judement, and that is very evident in Atuguba's case. Please inform yourself before you start writing. Your comment on the chief Justice alone exposes your ignorance and inability to provide unbiased information.

The action of NPP has sent a strong message to that particular justice that, this is a case so serious that no one can toy with, no one can play any tribal, family, or party card. Already that justice will be very careful in his actions as far as the judgment of the case is concerned. This tactice is played by attorneys that I only know about. The first shot gains you an advantage. Akuffo Addo and Co ( I restrain myself from saying NPP because many in the party are just calmly waiting for his downfall) have just suffered a bitter humiliation. The Daily Guide is doing its best to cheer them on with such sycophantic headlines.

The Court is like a battle ground or a game of chess. You assess all your plans before you make a move. What they should have done was put all 11 judges of the Supreme Court through their objection criteria and weigh up their chances of a successful objection rather than rush in like school boys, only to be rebuffed.

Having impugned the reputation of all the Judges and the Chief justice, they have now rescinded their objection. The matter does not end here. They must state their reasons for questioning the composition of the panel in the first place. And asking for an expedient hearing cannot be the basis for rescinding their objection. It is not for Akuffo Addo and Co. to decide the pace of the hearing.
