This is nothing but a call to foolishness of the highest order. Most in the NDC and NPP tout/pretend to tout and wish upon Ghana political systems of civilized Western nations. As such most Ghanaians in the Diaspora, the educated and those who seek money at all cost alike, do recite party talking points without much thought. Where in the civilized western nations where we copy/attempt to emulate blindly do we have reserved seats for members of parliament, congress or house of Lords for its citizens living and working in foreign lands not as agents of government but for their own human existence?
Majority of Ghanaians in the Diaspora are there on their own volition; they were neither sold as slaves nor conscripted by foreign nations. Some return to Ghana to engage in economic practices reserved for the greedy and heartless souls and return to their current nations of residence without shame. Ghanaians here at home struggling to keep the nation going must be entitled to the fruits of their land. People in the Diaspora have done enough damage to Ghana already. Land prices are currently above and beyond reach of the annual wages/salaries of half of Ghana's working population but this too was brought on by Ghanaians in the Diaspora who come home to visit with excess earnings to outbid most lands for sale in Ghana's urban centers. This exercise of race to the top by foul means have encouraged Ghanaians at the top of our civil service and other institutions to engage in the art of bribery and corruption beyond any moral boundaries to steal, buy and build homes to match their counterparts in the Diaspora.
Ghana does not need the art of economic greed on steroids but people with ideas, ideal, principles and normal moral convictions to move Ghana forward rather than ask Ghanaians here at home to acquiesce to all things greed and foul dressed up as property seeking society.

I do agree with you in most cases but not all. I'm also tired of Ghanaians bringing bad attitudes they copy from outside. For instance I was surprised that we even had strip clubs in Ghana when this was not existing when I used to leave in Ghana for many years ago. The funny thing is many Ghanaians and africans in general living abroad often comdemn the some standards of the western countries at the same time bringing the same culture when they come down home.
However, you should not forget that many Ghanaians are depending on the fruit of Ghanaians living outside. So we are also contributing alot even more than the government providing to its own citizens. So we can not be forgotten. Whether some people like it or not we are still part of the country. It's not all of us practicing those immoral activities you mentioned and it's not all Ghanaians in Ghana do contribute positive to the country.
It can be discussed if all Ghanaians in abroad are of there own will. Many Ghanaians are forced to travel due to the economical situation. Believe me more would leave Ghana if they had the possibility. There were also people who left Ghana of political reasons specially in the 70's and the 80's.

Most of the best Ghanaian scholars and professionals are those who live outside from home. If we don't allow such brains to participate fully in our democratic process for the mere fact that they are dual citizens or living in another country, then we don't really want to move forward. The article by Michael Osei is not actually a bad idea...infact under the NPP there was something like that adjoined to the Ministry of Tourism and that whole Ministry was known as the Ministry of Tourism and Diaporean Relations. Under H.E. ATTA-MILLS it was cancelled and the Ministry reverted to what it is today.. Ministry of Tourism.
Considering that FOREIGN REMITTANCES sits as Ghana's second highest foreign exchange earner,it will be great if the country recognised the further impact Ghanaians in the diaspora can do. There are many of us with great potentials and qualifications and can do so much for our country.

Before we start talking about the laudable idea of a Ministry of Ghanaians in Foreign lands we need to address this disgraceful tribalism among Ghanaians everywhere. Ghanaians in foreign lands are not united- there isnt even an association of Ghanaians in lets say united states. all there is are fragmented associations based on tribal lines: Ashantis this, Ewes that, Fantis and Gas this and that. This disunity is the root cause of our lack of progress, lack of a sense of nationism, and the main reason for corruption back in our motherland. Every Ghahaian is a self-seeker first, family second, then tribe. That is why we steal and loot national resources to fill our stomachs. And when one's stomach is full, he will pass crumbs to family members, and so forth till the sharing ends at the tribal level. If this trend is not stemmed by a new breed of ghanaians, our corruption will soon superseed that of the Nigerians. (I hear Nigerians are so corrupt the Devil closed his Embassy in Abuja). Your idea is laudable but is far from feasible.

What then is the purpose of the embassies Ghana have in the various foreign countries? This idea would be a waste of resources and irrelevant. Constituencies serve to improve the people that live within it in that particular country. If one chooses to travel abroad Ghana does not have much responsibility over the person except to protect the persons rights under the constitution. Therefore the government does not need to extend its resources so much to countries which this particular government cannot even rule over just by the mere fact that some ghanaians live there.I don't know much about Ghanaian politics but simply it would be a waste of resources considering we already have embassies created under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs department.
