Fellow Ghanaians
Throughout all our lives, every male shall be circumcised when he is seven days old according to our Mohel. It is the covenant between us in our flesh and GOD, It is the perpetual eternal covenant.
The Ghanaian Jew is endowed by this convenant and this makes him the seed of God in Ghana. My Brave Heart was circumcised on the 8th day.

I agree with you that if carried out by well trained individuals, neonatal circumcision as
Factored by certain religious groups in Ghana is best, least painful and rapidly healing. However the fact still remains that in some societies as you have alluded to especially in Southern Africa, circumcision is a mark of male maturity and so is carried out during teenage years or early adulthood (your experience was no different from president Mandela's).
Although I don't really get the general drift of your article, if you wish to advocate for early circumcision (given it's potential health benefits), then I would support that. I am not sure about the role of the military in forcing people to go through the process though and it is also worth noting that in the Ghanaian context, circumcision is TABOO among certain sections of society even though altitudes are changing. I will support your campaign if that's what you want.

Recently, there was a court ruling banning circumcision in Germany. The ruling by the court said, circumcision for the purpose of religious upbringing constitutes a violation of physical integrity. The judgement added: The child's body is permanently and irreparably changed by the circumcision. This change conflicts with the child's interest of later being able to make his own decision on his religious affiliation.
The case stemmed from a circumcision on a four-year-old Muslim boy who had to be taken to hospital when complications developed. That, unusually, put the case into the legal system and the doctor was prosecuted.
As the charge put it, the doctor "physically mistreated another person and injured that person's health by means of a dangerous instrument".
In the end, he was cleared. The court decided that circumcision was illegal but that the doctor couldn't have been expected to have known this. It had been done for so long that it seemed legal when - according to the court - it wasn't.
Already, the Jewish Hospital in Berlin, which has been performing ritual circumcisions for 250 years, has stopped. In addition, the German Medical Association then told doctors across the country to stop performing the procedure.

However, the German parliament passed a law in December to allow religious circumcision. The legislation states that male infants may be circumcised for religious reasons within six months of their birth by a "specially trained" practitioner, although this person does not have to be a doctor.
Nevertheless, the rite must be carried out "in a professional medical manner", the law states and stipulates exemptions for infants who could be at risk from the practice such as haemophiliacs.

You've just repeated the old canards about the advantages of circumsicion with hardly a mention of the numerous disadvantages, drawbacks and dangers. Male circumscision can also be a barbaric act and MOST male circumscisions are not medically warranted. If evolution had found the prepuce a hindrance to reproduction and survival, we would have, this far in the evolution of our species, been born without it!
There's nothing Christian about circumsicion. Paul needed more recruits to the religion that he virtually founded and shaped, laying down most of the rules. If Paul hadn't found an escape rout for the uncircumcised Gentiles Christianity would have died for lack of new members. It was only the Jews who pushed their traditional practice into a religious mode to give it legitimacy. Islam also chose and appropriated many Jewish customs that their prophet saw fit or that also corresponded to pre-Islamic Arabic cultural practices. Circumsicion is NOT a Christian act. When the Arabs/Moors ruled in Christian Spain that also had lots of Jews, one thing that distinguished Christian males from Jews and Muslims was that the Christians were uncircumcised. Both circumscised and uncircumcised looked down on each other precisely because of the act, or lack of: you circumscised pig! You uncircumcised dog!
There's nothing cultural about circumscision in Africa. There are as many tribes that have it as part of their culture as there are who don't have it. Most of the Europeans who brought Christianity to Africa were not circumscised. Even in Ghana there are still some tribes who don't do it.
As for that thing about circumscision and HIV, there's the danger of its giving a false sense of security. Circumscision does NOT prevent me from contracting the virus! It MAY only reduce the risk. I must still use a condom with a woman I am not sure of.
There are many jokes about circumscision but I will leave that for another day. In my secondary school in the 60s/70s, even the newly circumscised adults did not escape scorn. We called them Agama Lizard because of the black body of the penis and the pink newly circumscised head!

I read Paul Amuna's comment and saw directly that, like me, he did not see the main drift of your article. What is the purpose of the article? You won't know if it is a plea for circumscision, a short story about your life, puberty rites among twin-borns in Winneba, or what? You think every rambling thing you write is a piece of high class literary piece even though Paa Kwesi Mintah has been pointing this out to you for a long time.
As for those things I said about Paul, show me which single one of them is historically incorrect! Show me, the ignoramus, so I will become as knowledgeable as you.
And I think it would be nice if you showed some maturity befitting your age!

Being a hospital baby I can't relate to your pain.
Now one question for you: Do you have a real birth certificate? Or you obtained one from that commissioner of oath who used to sit by SCOA area.
You just pricked my memmory with Quinck ink. How the hell do you remember all those brands? I only used Quinck and bought it from my school mate Oseni's mom store.
One missing fact from your piece is the origin of male circumcision. The oldest evidence is found in an Egyptian relief on one of the temples.
It was an Egyptian practice that was later adopted by the Jews who lived in Egypt originally. Today male circumcision has become an important health issue.
The practise is absent in Southern Africa, especially right in your abode of Zambia, hence the prevalence of HIV infection.
Again you couldn't help yourself avoiding quotes from Achebe, Caesar and other historical figures. Can you for once cast your narrative in contemporary terms without all those needless biblical quotations and historical references?
Saaalut.

Well it's a pity Mr Sakyi's culture thinks he needs to go through such an ordeal. Other cultures don't and are no worse for it. Cultures can change, and some should. How ridiculous to taunt a man - yes, a MAN - for having all of his body! Especially for having a part that can give such extraordinary pleasure to both him and his partner. Any woman who turns a man away because he has all of his organs is doing herself a disservice. Most of the men in the world have all of their body parts, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
The medical claims Mr Sakyi cites are all bogus or exaggerated - slight, debatable reductions in rare ailments that can be better prevented by other means, or treated as they occur. They were all made up after the fact, by circumcised men who badly wanted to justify what was done to them, because it can never be fully undone.
