We have come to agree in this country that the Petition to the Supreme Court by the NPP has been made an issue for public discussion as far as a press briefing was held by the NPP. Details relating to the Petition were made public, for that matter the public can make input into it.
Nana Akufo Addo and his NPP think they are deepening democracy because they are in court over election results. The truth is that they are wasting the precious time of all Ghanaians especially the majority who think that their aspirations will be better served by having the NDC in government. They are as well wasting the time of the President of Ghana who should be strategizing with his team on the best way forward for his people.
What are the issues for wasting the time of the majority of Ghanaians and that of the President who the people have chosen to lead them for the next 4 years? In my view the issues are flimsy and are alleged lapses detected in the 2012 elections. I will address the various issues raised as concisely as possible in the following paragraphs.
Before I address the issues in the petition it is important to caution all reasonable Ghanaians that the NPP is a party of ‘’professional thieves’’ whether they like it or not. They are good at massaging lies which can appear to the ordinary person as truth. In the just ended 2012 elections, the NPP have won every recounting of ballot when it was clear that the NDC candidate in the election has won at the polling stations in the full glare of the public. A case in point was the Ayawaaso Central parliamentary election which was clearly won by the NDC candidate after counting have been done at the various polling stations. When recounting was done at the Kotobabi Police Station, the result was over turned in favour of the NPP. What happened in 2012 was a restaging of what happened in 2008. On all these occasions Sheik I.C. Quaye has been in the thick of affairs. He has always succeeded in setting into place the rigging machinery before the elections. The NPP is on the verge of repeating the same strategy in this matter.
NPP in government are capable of covering up malfeasance and corrupt acts which are daunting to prove. Their people lived in the communities with the rest of society and we saw and heard many bad things they did in government but they will escape the arm of the law. For me I see the NDC as vulnerable and Ghanaians’ choice of this party in government was the best that can happen on the political scene. I refer to them as unprofessional politicians.
For me I am not perturbed in this matter because we are dealing with figures unlike words which are often debatable. The understandings we put on words are mostly debatable, that’s why a panel of judges cannot agree on a common issue at stake. Figures are a product of Science which can often be proved beyond reasonable doubt. Formulae in Mathematics are often proved from First Principle. Whenever 1+1=3, which seems incomprehensible to the ordinary person, Science can prove it as right.
In the first place the word “averred” has been often used in the petition to the Supreme Court. The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines Aver as” (old use) state positively (that something is true)”. In my view most of the issues raised in the petition are allegations and are yet to be proved by Nana Addo and the two others who are joined in the petition. These issues are not true unless proven beyond every reasonable doubt.
ELECTIONS IN GHANA, SPECIFICALLY, CAN ONLY BE WON AT THE POLLING STATION. It is the valid votes of people qualified to vote in an election or referendum which matter so any figure beingn bandied around by the NPP should be ignored outright. Anybody wanting to cause mischief in a matter like this can massage figures to confuse Ghanaians. The NPP cannot and should not be allowed to cause any mischief with any massaged figures from the elections.
The primary data in this election is at the polling stations. The figures which have been arrived at by counting in the full glare of the sovereign people of Ghana to determine the winner of the elections, cannot and should not be allowed for any massaging by the NPP. Is the NPP alleging that over 1.3 million votes benefitted the President-elect? Can the NPP trace this amount of votes to the President-elect? The whole of Ghana will be interested to see how these votes can be traced to one presidential candidate.
I read Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the Advanced Level so my affinity for figures cannot be questioned. Prior to this I read, the same subjects including Add Mathematics(traditional) and instead of JSP Mathematics, I read General Mathematics at the Ordinary Level(the most difficult maths at this level). I have continued to the School of Administration in Legon to read Accounting. Mathematics, for that matter figures, has been my life to date even in the bank. I can appreciate it better than anything in my world.
The Article 57(5) of the 1992 Constitution states a blank provision after Article 57(4) is more specific on the performance of the function of the president. Why is it so?
The Petitioners need to prove that the alleged irregularities in the elections were deliberately created by President Mahama and the Electoral Commission to help President Mahama win the elections. This is an unsubstantiated allegation coming from the Petitioners. They should come out with material facts to show that the two were in league to facilitate the win for the President.
Again the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines Verification as ‘’proof or evidence’’ whiles it defines Identification as ‘’equate one thing with another’’. One can only proof something which exists. So verification can never replace identification in our elections. Identification is fundamental. In banking it is important for the banker to ensure that a demand to pay money is executed to the right person so means of identification is always required to ensure that money is paid to the person purported to be right person.
Did Superlock Technologies Ltd (STL) tampered with the results from the polling stations? Was the company not serving as backups for the collated results from the Constituencies? The NPP are good in massaging figures and they were good at it in the 2008 elections. The conditions which made it easy for them to massage figures this time were absent so they are frustrated and desperate to create problems. Their desire to win the elections at all cost was not negotiable. THEY LIE BAD THIS TIME.
When the EC give out the number of registered voters and say it is provisional, it should therefore be taken as PROVISIONAL. And when the EC say the registered voter number is final, it is FINAL. It is unintelligent to equate provisional registered voters to final registered voters.
The EC is a human institution and can make mistakes which are not deliberate. Take for instance the creation of the 45 constituencies. There were mistakes in the L.I which was presented before Parliament during this process. These were genuine mistakes and were taken as such. How significant is a mistake on an outcome. Auditors can teach the petitioners better on the materiality of an issue at stake.
The use of ‘’about’’ in mathematics or in determining period suppose that the period can be more or less than a particular number which difference is not significant. So in the creation of the 26,002 polling stations starting from about 26th September, 2012 (or 42 days) should not create any uproar for the petitioners
How do the petitioners differentiate the registers for the parliamentary and presidential registers? I thought it was the same register which was used for the presidential and parliamentary elections. Did the EC provide two registers for the elections?
I wish to advise the petitioners to revise their Laws on Agency in this drama they are creating.
Will the NPP through the petitioners come up with this petition if they had won the elections? I see the NPP behaving like a drowning person clutching to any straw that comes his way.
I wish to assure Nana Addo and his team of petitioners , and the whole NPP party that Ghanaians will punish them again in 2016. I want them to diarize this because it is important.
It is my expectation and the expectation of THE SOVEREIGN PEOPLE OF GHANA that the judges at the supreme court will live up to the confidence the people of Ghana repose in them. Their image, unfortunately is sinking low probably through no faults of them but that is the true situation on the ground.
YOU GO LOSE KEKE.
