The stupidity of wasting Ghana money on Scholarships in Western countries did not start under Akuffo Addo and needs to be stopped. It was equally horrible under Jeremiah John Rawlings,Kuffour, and Mahama’s Governments. Yes such scholarships were reserved for people who were, or had relations close in Government. That Cancer needs to be probed and stopped. Many who got the scholarships to the West never came back to work in Ghana after their programs. That is just bad.

The Scholarship Secretariat should not fund any person to undertake courses offered at Ghana's universities. The Scholarship Secretariat must post the names of scholarship recipients on-line, while also making these awards available to any person who wishes to see the records at the offices of the Secretariat, provided those seeking these records pay for the cost of copying and time expended. The scholarship Secretariat must publish in advance any and all scholarships to be awarded so that the general public can have an opportunity to apply the awards. The Scholarship Secretariat must end the stupid practice of sending thieving politicians to Harvard so that they can return to Ghana with a piece paper that does Ghana no good. Thieving politicians should compete with the general public for positions at the Ghana's universities if they choose to further their education. The Scholarship Secretariat should not pay the expenses of any student who obtained their own admission into universities outside Ghana. The Scholarship Secretariat has been marred in corruption because of secrecy. Make the Secretariat's operation transparent, and the should stem the tide of corruption in that agency. New guidelines must be laid out for the Scholarship Secretariat to follow. Time to stop the blame game and instead take measures to right the sinking ship.

The whole scholarship program should be dismantled. Most of the recipients who sponsored into foreign institutions never return to Ghana after graduation. I know several folks who benefitted from Ghana scholarships and are in the U.S. working with their degrees. If the government wants to help in the education of its citizens, it must improve the infrastructures of tertiary institutions in Ghana. The amount of funds the government is dishing out in foreign scholarships every year could best be used to expand more program admissions. But thief Akuffo Addo won’t listen to any sound advice.
