Krofrom: Family rejects offer to send Police Band to funeral

Family of the 22-year-old man claimed to have died of police brutality at Krofrom in the Ashanti Region, have rejected an offer by the Regional Police Chief, DCOP Kofi Boakye to send the Police Band to the funeral.

Family of the deceased, Osei Tawiah insist the police were to be held responsible for their relative's death despite an autopsy report exonerating two officers.

The report released Monday, May 30, says Tawiah died of congestive heart failure; however, no indication was made about the cause of the fatal heart problem.

Protestors made up of family and friends of the deceased and residents of Nana Fodoo, Krofrom blocked roads Tuesday and pelted stones at the police after the autopsy report was made public.

The angry youth say the report exonerating the officers, about three of them, is compromised. They say Osei Tawiah died at the hands of the policemen.

However, DCOP Boakye rubbished this assertion arguing that footballers who people see as fit suffer from similar condition and it is normal.

But Atinka News correspondent, Prince Osei Tutu reports from the one week celebration of the death of the man that, DCOP Kofi Boakye and Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu reportedly offered to send the police band to the funeral but the family say they do not need their services.

The family have set Thursday, June 9, 2016, as date for funeral and burial rites for the deceased.
