Hanna Tetteh: ‘What’s happening in SA can happen anywhere’

Foreign Affairs minister Hanna Tetteh has urged Ghanaians and other African nationals to be cautious of how they react to developments in South Africa since what is happening there can happen to any other country.

Ten people have so far been confirmed dead in xenophobic attacks in the rainbow nation.

The youth there are accusing black migrants of taking their jobs and opportunities.

Commenting on the development on her twitter handle, the former trades minister disclosed that other nationals in Ghana have also raised concerns about treatment meted out to them by Ghanaians.

“It's important we learn lessons from the South African situation and not tolerate violence against migrants living & working in our midst.

“We have Citizens from other ECOWAS countries living & doing business in Ghana & sometimes their Embassies complain about their treatment.

“However we should recognize that this situation could happen anywhere where there are migrants engaging in economic/commercial activities,” she wrote.
