Ghanaians attacked in renewed xenophobic attacks in South Africa

Hundreds of foreign nationals have sought refuge at a local police station in South Africa, almost four days after a series of alleged xenophobic attacks swept through parts of the country, a Ghanaian has told Abusua FM.

In what appears to be a renewed xenophobic attacks against other nationals, some Ghanaians were part of other foreign nationals, mostly Nigerians and Congolese that were violently attacked

Similar bloody attacks erupted in some two years after angry South African youths accused other foreigners of “stealing jobs”, jobs meant for locals.

Speaking to host of Abusua Driver, Ike Da-Unpredictable, a Ghanaian based in South Africa said the South Africans are accusing them of taking over jobs mainly preserved for the locals.

He adds, “some Ghanaians and other foreign nationals here now live in fear. Some have started packing their belongings for fear of more attacks because they are accusing of taking their jobs.”

“Some of us hairdressers, barbers and do basic work for our survival and to support our families back home”.

“Some South Africans were calling and threatening to unleash more mayhem against us,” he said.

“The callers asked for money to be spared the attacks…we are worried about the development because the South African police are yet to arrest those who perpetrated last Saturday`s attacks,” he said.
