Agyapong is a man of facts and evidence - Ahenkorah

Carlos Ahenkorah, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Tema West has emphatically stated that Kennedy Agyapong is a man who tackles issues based on his investigations and evidence obtained and not on just mere allegations.

“A lot of suggestions and comments have been made about Kennedy Agyapong's recent comment, but I know he is a man full of investigations and evidence-based subjects, therefore he would not speak on a matter without getting his facts right,” he said.

According to the aspiring Member of Parliament (MP), the Assin Central MP should thus be left alone.

Mr. Agyapong while addressing New Patriotic Party (NPP) members at Asokwa in the Ashanti region said the EC Chair gave sexual favours in order to be considered for her current position.

The comments have drawn condemnations from many individuals, organizations, civil society, and women groups.

The MP's statement has been largely described as vulgar and an attack on womanhood and should be made to apologize and sanctioned.

Also, some of his colleague MPs have demanded punitive action to be taken against the Assin Central MP after he alleged that the EC boss got her job by sleeping with power brokers.

The MP who spoke on his Accra-based OMAN FM showed no remorse for accusing the EC Chairperson of trading sex for her position.

He said it is hypocritical on the part of his critics to ask him to apologize because similar insults have been hurled at him by NDC sympathizers and nobody was reprimanded.

Electricity Tariff

Touching on the President’s announcement of a subsidy on electricity tariff on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ program, Carlos Ahenkorah described President Mahama’s action as a yardstick to target and grab the attention of floating voters in the upcoming elections and not because he is feeling the pains of the citizenry.

“How can a sitting president say he has subsidized the prices of electricity for a period with a specified amount, what if the subsidized money gets finished before the 6 months?” he asked.

According to Mr. Ahenkorah “this current ruling government has really disturbed every aspect of our economy especially issues with utility tariffs.”

President John Dramani Mahama gave an indication that effective July 1, Ghanaians would start experiencing some reliefs in electricity bills.

According to the President, The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to implement a new billing cycle which would address concerns of overbilling.

An investigation into the recent overbilling undertaken by the ECG and other state agencies seems to have found the cause of the problem and some recommendations have been made.

Addressing market women, and traders at the Madina market on his accounting to the people tour of the Greater Accra region which resumed on Tuesday, June 21, President Mahama said: “I have given them the opportunity to go ahead to implement the solutions they’ve come up with."
