Adams Mahama’s death senseless, vicious – Nana

Flashback: Adams Mahama and Nana Addo during a presentation Flashback: Adams Mahama and Nana Addo during a presentation

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo has described the murder of Adams Mahama, the former Upper East Regional chairman of the NPP, as “senseless and vicious.”

Marking the 1st anniversary of Mahama, who was murdered in an acid attack at his residence last year, Nana Addo said: “It was a day the NPP lost a true blue party man, and a noble adherent of its principles and values.”

Akufo-Addo, who is currently touring the Volta region to canvass for votes, said the only way party supporters will not let Mahama’s death be in vain is to “rededicate ourselves to the struggle ahead, that is the struggle to redeem our country and return her to the path of progress and prosperity.”

He also appealed to family members of the deceased to allow the courts to deal with the matter as one Gregory Afoko faces trial over the case.

Below is Nana Addo’s full statement:

Today, May 20, 2016, marks the first anniversary of the tragic death of Adams Mahama, the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, who was senselessly and viciously murdered.

It was a day the NPP lost a true blue party man, and a noble adherent of its principles and values.

It is not often that the party takes someone to its collective heart so wholeheartedly, but the late Adams Mahama managed to charm most people in the party. Adams was passionate about Ghana. He was convinced that the NPP will capture power in 2016 in order to improve the lives of the people of Ghana. It is up to us to make sure that Adams did not die in vain.

The way in which we will not let his death be in vain is to rededicate ourselves to the struggle ahead, that is the struggle to redeem our country and return her to the path of progress and prosperity. When we have done this and put the smiles back on the faces of all the poor and needy people that Adams took care of, only then would we have truly “avenged” his death.

The process of seeking justice is still ongoing in the courts and I urge the family of the late Adams Mahama and aggrieved members of the party to continue to trust the judicial system to bring a just resolution to the matter.

On this day, and on behalf of the entire membership of the NPP, we pledge to continue to work to keep the Adams’ flame alight. To his widow, children, and family, we pray for Allah’s continued strength for them.

May the Almighty Allah continue to bless Adams Mahama and grant him eternal rest.
