20% Removal of Import Tax on Mobile Phones will benefit all Ghanaians

The Mobile Phones and Accessories Dealers Association of Ghana has welcomed the recent move by government towards the removal of the 20% import tax on mobile phones and accessories.

The group believes it was as a result of several complains made to the government concerning the removal of the 20% import tax on mobile phones and accessories earlier on has triggered government to give listening ears to their quest.

Hon Seth Terkper, Minister of Finance announced the 20% removal of the import tax last week contained in the 2015 budget in parliament.

Speaking to Joy FM in an exclusive interview, Co- Chairman of the group, Joseph Osei Agyemang noted the move was a step in a right direction and will benefit the citizenry when the budget receives approval in parliament.

It will favour all Ghanaians business wise, increase revenue generation and also curb stealing, smuggling and other criminal activities he says.

Meanwhile the 20% import duties scrapped off on mobile phones and accessories will become feasible come January, 2015 when approved by parliament.
