500 million cedis development plan for Mumford

Mumford (C/R), Oct. 30, GNA - A five hundred million-cedi five year development plan is to be launched by the people of Mumford in the Central Region on the 8th November, 2003 to climax their annual Akwambo Festival from the 7th to 10th November.

Top on the list of projects to be undertaken within the period is the provision of a drainage system to check erosion.

Briefing Ghana News Agency after a meeting of the Chiefs and leaders of branches of the Mumford Development Association (MUMDA) to finalise arrangements for the celebration, Supi Kweku Abbiw, their spokesman said the amount would be raised through fund raising activities, levies on citizens and the catch of boat and canoe owners and a special Tuesday fishing expedition.

Supi Abbiw said Early Childhood Development Centres and the provision of sanitation facilities would also be considered and called citizens residing outside to come home and participate in the festival. He said parents of those who would fail to attend to contribute to the development of the town would be sanctioned, adding that, the days communities looked up to the government for all of their needs are gone. "This time round communities have to initiate their needs before soliciting for assistance," he said.

Present at the meeting were Okumtwi Brebo Esamoaedu VII, Mankrado, Nana Ewusi Kwansah VII, Tufuhene, Nana Akraman Effrim IV, Apofohene, Nana Kofi Amissah, Nkosuohene and Supi Kobena Siw of the Asafo No. 2 Company.
