Kumaho (B/A), July 23, GNA- Nana Oyeman Appiah-Kui II, President of the Ayomso Divisional Council in the Asunafo District has pledged the council's willingness to sponsor brilliant but needy children, especially girls, to pursue their education. He appealed to School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and school children to assist in raising the academic standard in schools.

The chief said this when he inaugurated a 160-million-cedis block of three classrooms for the Kumaho Junior Secondary School (JSS). ACTIONAID Ghana and the Asunafo District Assembly financed the project completed two months ago. Mr George Yaw Boakye, the District Chief Executive, thanked ACTIONAID for its help to improve education in the district and urged parents and children to ensure that the huge investment made in education was not wasted.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Baryeh Amaniampong, said the school, which scored zero percent in the 2000 and 2001 Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECEs), recorded 24 percent last year and expressed the hope that the new block would boost academic performance.
