Let contractors pay for destroyed pipelines - CWSA boss

Mr Clement Bugase, the Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), has urged the management teams of the system to ensure road contractors whose works destroy water pipelines pay for their replacement.

Mr Bugase, who was on a tour of CSWA facilities in the Easter Region, with the other members of the board, tasked the CWSA management teams to seek the support of their various District Assemblies to collect their water tariffs from public institutions.

He explained that under the current government policy all public institutions were supposed to budget for their utility bills and pay for them as the various teams also had to pay for other utility bills such as electricity.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CWSA, Nana Danso Agyei Ababio, commended the Birim North District CWSA Management Team for their efficient management of the water system in the district.

He said the Birim North District could be ahead of other districts in country because more than 74 per cent of its population was being reached with potable water.

The board had earlier visited Asesewa and Akateng to interact with the CWSA management teams in those two areas, as part of the two-day visit.

Nana Ababio advised the management teams to abide by the laws on water and sanitation and to invest some of their resources into sanitation to help improve upon the sanitation in their communities.
