Woman dies of snake bite

Madam Yaa Mintaa, popularly known as Yaa Yaa, died as a result of snake bite at her residence at Breman Kokoso in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District.

She was rushed to the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Hospital at Asikuma, where she was pronounced dead soon on arrival.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Breman Kokoso, a family spokeswoman, Madam Abena Amoakoaah said, at about 2000 hours on that day, Amoakoaah and others were sleeping on the compound of the house for fresh air.

Amoakwaa said she heard of an alarm of snake bite from the deceased.

She said the deceased was removing an old cloth hanging on the drying line probably to spread on the ground also to sleep when the incident occurred.

She said the deceased removed her sandals to kill the snake, which was burnt.

The spokeswoman said in the process of burning, the deceased complained of heart pain and dizziness and collapsed.

She was first rushed to the Brakwa Health Centre, but was later referred to the Catholic Hospital at Breman Asikuma where she died on arrival.
