Tamale NGO awards teachers in Yendi

The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) a Tamale-based international NGO on Friday awarded some three teachers in the Yendi Municipality for their hard work and dedication to duty as a way of motivation to improve teaching and learning in the area.

The teachers are Mr Alidu Sumani Halidu of the Zugu RC Primary who took away a table top fridge, Mr Amadu Suale of the Adibo RC Junior High High who also took away a ceiling fan and Mr Abukari Mahama of the Gbungbalaga RC Primary who got a pressing iron.

The NGO also constructed and commissioned some projects in the Yendi Municipality at the cost of over GH?105,000.00 to improve school enrolment in the Municipality.

The projects included the construction of a 3-unit classroom block at the Gbungbalaga Junior High School, construction of a kitchen and renovation of a classroom block at Adibo to motivate both teachers and students to improve teaching and learning.

Mrs Gifty Akosua Baka, Country Director of CCFC who commissioned the projects at separate functions at the weekend, stressed CCFC’s continued support to improve education especially in rural areas.

She said the selection of Gbungbalaga and Adibo Schools for the projects was due to the fact that BECE results had always been poor hence the need to help improve infrastructure.

She appealed to teachers and heads of the schools to put in their best to improve education since they were the backbone of the schools and that anything short of hard work, will lead to nothing being achieved.

Mrs Baka advised pupils especially girls to take their studies seriously to ensure the realization of their dreams to take useful positions in future to contribute their quota towards nation building.

She commended the three teachers who received awards for their dedication to duty and advised them to live lives worthy of emulation to change the face of education in the area.

Mrs Gladys Rahmatu Bawa, Yendi Municpal Director of Education, expressed appreciation to CCFC for their tremendous support to improving education in the area and expressed the hope that the gesture would help improve the BECE results especially the Gbungbalaga School.

She advised parents to allow their wards especially those who were weak in certain subjects to attend extra classes to improve their learning abilities, while teachers should not force and promote pupils who were not living up to expectation.

She assured that the GES would continue to work closely with CCFC and other stakeholders to improve education in the Yendi Municipality.
