Churches urged to invest in solar energy

The Catholic Church and other faith-based entities, have been asked to invest in the energy sector, such as solar, to serve rural communities.

Mr James Gunu, Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE) who made the suggestion said this would help shore up the country’s energy sector, and promote socio-economic development of deprived rural communities.

He was addressing the celebration of the “Feast of Jesus Christ as the King of Kings,” a worldwide event on the Catholic calendar, by the Dzodze Saints Paul and Peter Parish at Ave-Seva.

He said though government was dealing with the problem, the situation would have been different if the Church had been involved in the sector.

“The energy challenges can affect gains made in education, health, water and sanitation, and so everyone must come on board,” he said.

He said government was adopting the best and sustainable approach towards solving the problem, and called for support and prayers for government to succeed in its schemes.

Mr Gunu also appealed to the Church, to embark on a purposeful crusade against lust for wealth, corruption and other vices.

He said Jesus Christ is vilified when Christians engage in wealth grabbing by any means.

Mr Gunu, therefore, advised Christians to be true disciples of Jesus Christ, because they are being watched by non-believers.

Reverend Father Peter Amegashie, Assistant Parish Priest, in a sermon, asked Christians to remain holy, loving, peaceful, truthful and humble, as Jesus Christ.
