NGO embarks on health and crime awareness

Face of Madina, a Non-Governmental Organization, on Saturday organized a game, dubbed; "Face of Madina Football Gala" for the Madina Community to educate the people on health and crime prevention.

Participants include the police, La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal guards, drivers unions, and Madina hawkers association.

Dr Cosmos Larbi, Director of Madina Medical Diagnostic Centre, Founder of the NGO, said the organization, which begun this year, was to create awareness on health and support health programmes within the municipality.

He said similar programmes would be organized next year which would also crown a Miss Madina Ambassador to educate residents on health.

Madam Comfort Donkor, Director of La-Nkwantanang-Madina School Health, advised the people to wash their hands frequently with water and soap before eating and after visiting the lavatory.

Touching on Ebola, she said it was a viral disease and reminded the public to disinfect the bedding and clothing of an infected person and take persons suspected of having the virus to the nearest health unit without delay.

She said an infected person had the following symptoms; sudden onset of fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat.

Madam Janet Buakro, an Environmental Assistant, reminded the public to observe environmental hygiene to avoid contracting cholera.

She warned those who defecate in polythene bags and threw them into gutters to refrain from the act since it posed great danger to members of the community.

Chief Inspector Stephen Boadu, Madina Station Officer, speaking on crime awareness, urged the public to always switch off the lights in their rooms and leave the lights outside on at night.

He said this would enable them to see any intruder who may try to attack.

He said drivers should avoid drinking and driving, receiving or making phone calls behind the wheel, and observe road signs and regulations to avoid accidents.

The participating teams were presented with certificates while the Madina City Guards, winners of the gala, received a plaque.
